On a more upbeat note, want to flag that this weekend is the Skate Ontario Championships :cheer:

http://www.skateontario.org/events/skate-ontario-championships/

Basically, this is the provincial championships in Ontario for skaters below the levels that compete at Challenge and Nationals. This was formerly two events: the Skate Ontario STARSkate Championships and the Skate Ontario Cup. For Ontario STAR 4-10/Gold skaters and for pre-juvenile and juvenile competitive track skaters, this is the highest level of competition of the year.

I note that, unlike BC/YK, Skate Ontario does not provide livestream. :dev2: Really, given that Skate Ontario represents about a third of the skaters in the country, this is not only sad, but really misses the opportunity for skaters and coaches across the province and in other sections to raise the quality of their skating by seeing the standard others are reaching. Hope that whatever contracts are in place for video will be revisited as the amalgamated Skate Ontario Section plans for next season.

well... let's not put pressure on LL... medal hopes? they are in 5th because
1) they skated perfectly well
2) 2 other teams failed big elements

normally, they would probably be in 7th... and they could revert to that easily.... If they stay in 5th, I will be over the moon !

Now, this being said : WOW!!! I love them... so much charisma.. I hope they keep developing nicely, I would think that breaking 60 in the SD makes them quite close to #4 or 5 in Seniors in Canada

In light of the reduced JGP spots as nadster pointed out it falls on Skate Canada now to ensure that a variety of men get international experience. Though what are their junior requirements now? They had some in 2015-2016 but this season they only published their senior selection criteria. I can see them saying something like those guys who do well in the summer series and were top 10 at Nationals/Challenge but don't get to go the JGP will be assigned to Autumn Classic. And that would be it. Prime candidates would be Turcotte, Dushenski, Liu, and Kovler if we believe Orzel, Phan, and Sadovsky are getting those 6 JGP spots.

Prep continues for Meagan & Eric: https://www.instagram.com/p/BRrJyJhhXUS/
They'll be in North Bay doing a seminar on April 15: https://www.facebook.com/SkateCanad...974134426625/1502954589728566/?type=3&theater
Meagan looking  with her new short hair: https://www.instagram.com/p/BRtyIGChPIk/

Kim DeGuise-Léveillée will be skating her SP to Riverdance next season: https://www.instagram.com/p/BRjHcnhgwbo/

Choinard/Ostiguy seem to be meshing well: https://www.instagram.com/p/BRrNXl1AMUL/

Amanda Tobin's been training a 3A: https://www.instagram.com/p/BQ1RGAMl5Q2/

Brand new ice dance team Molly Lanaghan & Dmitre Razgulajevs: https://www.instagram.com/p/BRrdKa5AX6O/
That last photo is reminding me of Tessa & Scott's FD ending pose... Also, she's from UK but that post's tagged Team Canada so it looks like Carol Lane has bagged a Brit. :)

i like how meagan and eric are putting in more transitions into their programmes.. it should help them!!!! lower the BV but raise the GOE and PCS???

Tobin's 3A even with harness, as you can see, the coach is barely helping her... who will be the first ever Canadian woman to land a 3A?

and LOL at Lane bagged a Brit ;)

Huzzah for Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud: 5th in pairs at Junior Worlds! :cheer:

What a great achievement for a pair that came together at the end of the summer! No doubts that Evelyn has the 'right pairs girl stuff'.

Here is Skate Canada's news release for today that celebrates their achievement in breaking the top five.

Many young Canadian pairs teams will be thanking them for the additional berths for Canadian junior pairs in next season's JPG. So, an upside for all...

And here is a video of their FS from Daily Motion until CBC gets it up with higher resolution...

--------------------------------------------------

Editing to add that the math on berths for the 2017-2018 season is as follows:

With Walsh/Michaud 5th and finishing Matte/Ferland 9th, Canada will will be able to send 3 pairs to each of the 4 JPG pairs events. Canada will also have 2 berths for pairs again at Junior Worlds.

I'm still emotionally devastated after Nic's and Roman's weak LP performances :sad4: , but I found images of them where they seem to be in better spirits.

Nic sightseeing in Taipei---it's nice that he's smiling again after he looked like a (tall) puppy who has just been kicked in the kiss & cry: https://www.facebook.com/EcoleExcellenceRosemere/posts/1482494875116404

Roman and Conrad being silly  : https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C7MDAtpXgAA_GbF.jpg Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they imitating one of Nic's Elvis Presley's moves?

hi hi ;) long time no see...

all we know officially for now is that they are still on the entry list. Considering their injury, and that they know Canada has another very capable pair waiting to find out, I think that we should know in the next 2-3 days.... They wouldn't just withdraw right at the last minute and give no time to MTM2.0... at least, that's what I think...

siberia82 that move is called a DAB, the action is called dabbing....;)

background I have is that it is a hip hop dance move that got picked up as by US football players to show cheer after a good play.

While wikipedia isn't usually my 'go to' source, as this is a popular culture thing it is a reasonable source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dab_(dance)

For my young skaters, Nic has put himself in the realm of 'that totally cool guy who dabbed in the middle of his FS'. Especially as that meant that it was hard for their coaches and off-ice instructors to argue that they shouldn't be doing it....

BTW as Parliamentarians in the UK in the House and US politicians have picked it up, one can say that it's well dispersed in popular culture now.

Canada 150 Skating Day

Mark your calendars for December 10, 2017 and be ready to lace up wherever you may be in Canada!

The Governor General of Canada His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnson [yup, he's Canada's head of state] announced today that as part of the 150th celebration of Canada's confederation rinks across the country will be making ice available without charge for a national celebration of skating.

The announcement was made at the Rideau Hall outdoor ice rink, with partners Skate Canada and Rogers Television.

Skate Canada CEO Debra Armstrong also announced that its clubs will be receiving 'skate banks' of helmets and skates in order to help make learning to skate a reality for those who can't afford the equipment as part of a new program.

TGee you're such a scholar and mom. :)

Patrick was also tweeting about that Canada 150 announcement: https://twitter.com/Pchiddy/status/843185886246420480

Speaking of Chiddy, Team Canada and the Olympic Channel Twitter account were celebrating him for St. Patrick's Day:

Have there been any clips or reports on how Patrick is looking as we get closer to Worlds? I just watched several of his programs with my friend Tiffany and we're both so excited to see him skate at Worlds.
