Efimova struggled with her jumps even when she was a single skater and was in the 2nd half of the table even in Finland. It is understandable why boys prefer small girls. Especially when they are not so old. Plus it's better to start learning pair skating with more light girl, because it's easy and won't break your back. Plus it's easier to learn pair elements when a girl is 13-14yo. Step by step their back and muscles become stronger and stronger and they can afford more heavy girl. Puberty hits not only girls in pairs but singles. But not only it, if you don't have jumps specialist and can't do triples before it, it would be really hard to do them after. So I'm so happy that there is one now in pair skating school in Perm. Fom this year I hope it will improve a lot Perm's fs

Efimova may have struggled with her jumps as a single skater, but definitely not as bad as now. For pairs all she needs is two reliable triples. She had five different triples, and yet now she can’t even find two that would be reliable. I don’t know if her problems are connected with puberty or with the fact that as a pair skater she doesn’t work on jumping as much as she did when she was a singles skater, but I don’t think the prognosis looks very good. And that’s a pity because I really like them! :sad21:

I understand that pair males prefer smaller girls. I just don’t understand why they are not choosing them from the right age group. If 21 year old searches for a small 16-17 year old, the chance are that she will already be post puberty. If he chooses 13 year old, she won’t be senior eligible while he is not junior eligible, and it is going to get wrong when puberty hits. Morozov was able to do the elements with Tarasova who is only two years younger, so it can be done. One doesn’t need a 13 year old girl when he is 21. If the guy works on his strength, he should be fine lifting a girl over 16 years old.

It's much more difficult to learn pair skating at 16-17 than 13-girl. There isn't really choice for boys seeking partner between 16 or older who already had experience in pairs with a guy. Bo you know any girls from this age who are free and have triples? Gallyamov has took Mishina and Sopot - Poluinova. That's all. So their coaches take a young tiny girl from singles and learn her pair elements. It's not men's fault that they take so small girls.
