My boredom is prompting me to make a random starting order list again  So here it is!

The ISU championships (Euros, 4CCs, J Worlds, and Worlds) have always determined starting orders by organizing a random draw in a group of six. The top six skaters in order of World Standings will draw in the final group, then the next six for the next group, and so on. Here is the World Standings list: http://www.isuresults.com/ws/ws/wsladies.htm

This list should be correct as long as there are no changes in entries from now. I listed the skaters in highest to lowest World Standings order for each group (except Group 1).

Group 1 only has skaters with no points in World Standings. One random skater here will be moved into Group 2, so only five skaters will be in Group 1. Five of these six will draw in an alphabetical order (I think?):
Michelle Long (CAN)
Alicia Pineault (CAN)
Joanna So (HKG)
Aiza Mambekova (KAZ)
Thita Lamsam (THA)
Natalie Sangkagalo (THA)

Group 2 will contain the skater who was originally supposed to be in Group 1. As for the rest, it will be the following skaters in a random order:
Hanul Kim (KOR)
Amy Lin (TPE)
Starr Andrews (USA)
Chloe Ing (SGP)
Ziquan Zhao (CHN)

Group 3 will be the following skaters in a random order:
Soyoun Park (KOR)
Alaine Chartrand (CAN)
Kailani Craine (AUS)
Angela Wang (USA)
Brooklee Han (AUS)
Xiangning Li (CHN)

Group 4 will be the following skaters in a random order:
Satoko Miyahara (JPN)
Elizabet Tursynbaeva (KAZ)
Mai Mihara (JPN)
Dabin Choi (KOR)
Mariah Bell (USA)
Kaori Sakamoto (JPN)

The lineup is so good compared to those at 2014 4CC. It could've even better if the US and Canadian Olympic team would join it, but the timeline is so dense that they couldn't understandably make it. Satoko is a heavy favorite, but Mai wants to defend the title, and Kaori is also building her momentum step by step. It'll be interesting to watch the battle between them. I hope Satoko makes two solid skates and Kaori raises her PCS scores before going to the Olympics.

Another chance to see the Japanese women :yahoo:

Politely :) mentioning that your explanation happens to work out because there are only four groups in this segment.

For ISU Championships in general, the determination of start order is not quite so simple for skaters who are on the lower side in ISU World Standings.

Mrs. P :)bow: who educated me) and perhaps others will know what I mean.
See pages 88-89 of the ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules.

Just don't want anyone to be surprised/confused when your explanation does not fit the actual starting order (group by group) of a future ISU Championship.

Thank you for the clarification! I do remember that 2014 Worlds did the “skate earlier” “skate later” thing.

:agree: Yes, that is what I meant.

From the Euros SD, a current example of how a higher ranking in the ISU World Standings does not necessarily mean a later group in the starting order:

Törn/Partanen are #39 in ISU World Standings, and are #4 in the start order (Warm-Up Group 1).

Garabedian/Proulx Senecal are #45 in World Standings, and are #15 in the start order (Group 4).

Satoko and Kaori will do well anyway. Even if they won't, there is Olympics and Worlds ahead. So Mai Mihara and her very best - is all I really want to see by the end of this competition.

So I don't see Zijun Li here. Has she retired, or injured, or something else? The circumstance of her disappearance from the scene is quite elusive, to say the least.

I have a feeling Mai will be robbed in PCS as always even she clean.

Lets be real, there is no way JSF will let the Olympic team to be beaten by another girl right before the big game.

I want Mai to defend her title soooo bad, although I know the chance is so little.

Mai's health condition was not good after the Japanese nationals and she couldn't have enough training, she still has been limiting the number of the jump in the practice. But she skated in stable in the practice today and said she wanted to do her best to end this competition with smile.

Go, Mai!!

:sad46: I also read from another Japanese sports reporter's twitter that upon inquired about her health condition, Mai didn't give a direct answer and was kind of vague on that. I'm wondering if it's due to her previous illness? Hope she'll take it easy and just try her best.

Honestly, that's what I thought, too (there is no source though). I remember reading her article around the nationals said that the cold weather also affects her body condition. I am wishing her the best

The slightly positive(?) side is that the weather in Taiwan is definitely warmer than in Japan right now. But it can still be chilly a little and much more humid. I'll be cheering for her (and Kaori and Satoko) live here at Taipei arena. I'm really looking forward to seeing Mai's skating live for the first time.
