I think Anna would win or at least get a lot closer to Med if both skate clean. I see this season's Anna/Med as Med/Serafima in their last junior season. I think Anna's programs are superior to Med's and is closing the gap of her lack of tano/transitions with better SS and PE.

As this season has proven, one can never assume or discount others in figure skating, or it will come back and bite you. Ice, as we all know is slippery and anything in one competition, can and will happen. To say that Med. is a sure thing for the gold is a pretty strong statement given the events of this season. Who would have thought in early October that Ashley, Gracie would not be in the Grand Prix final. Just sayin'...

Predictions will be interesting, as you say.

Of course nothing is a 100% sure thing.

However, most on this thread are predicting a win for Medvedeva based on her consistency in performance and near record scores. Even with a fall at TEB, she still posted huge scores. She has won every competition she has been in for the past year and a half, except 2015's Rostelecom. So it stands to reason, that the odds are in her favor to win here again.

Ashley and Gracie are a different story. Both have struggled with consistency over their careers - the same cannot be said of Medvedeva.

Bottom line is, ladies are battling for silver, and the men's field is totally up in the air.
What are you other skating fans predicting?

I think if Evgenia and Yuzuru skates clean, they will be the clear winners.

CASE 1 - Everyone skates clean:
- Ladies:
1) Evgenia Medvedeva
2) Anna Pogorilaya
3) Kaetlyn Osmond (yes, this season judges gave the feedback that she can beat Radionova with two clean skates)

- Men:
1) Yuzuru Hanyu
2) Javier Fernandez
3) Patrick Chan

CASE 2 - Yuzuru and Evgenia make minor mistakes, clean the rest of the field;
- Ladies:
1) Evgenia Medvedeva;
2) Anna Pogorilaya;
3) Kaetlyn Osmond;

- Men:
1) Javier Fernandez
2) Yuzuru Hanyu
3) Patrick Chan

CASE 3 - Yuzuru and Evgenia make costly mistakes, clean the rest of the field;
- Ladies:
1) Anna Pogorilaya;
2) Evgenia Medvedeva;
3) Kaetlyn Osmond;

- Men:
1) Javier Fernandez
2) Patrick Chan
3) Yuzuru Hanyu

My predictions:

- Ladies:

1) Evgenia Medvedeva (SP: 1st; LP: 1st)
2) Anna Pogorilaya (SP: 3rd; LP: 2nd)
3) Elena Radionova (SP: 4th; LP: 3rd)

- Men:

1) Yuzuru Hanyu (SP: 1st; LP: 2nd)
2) Javier Fernandez (SP: 2nd; LP: 1st)
3) Patrick Chan (SP: 4th; LP: 3rd)

I think Miyahara also can overtake Elena for the bronze but it relies on the kind of judgement we'll see there. Usually at TEB and the GPF used to throw huge PBs for everyone, so she might have a chance.

Yuzu needs to get a clean 4 quad FS.
Javier needs a clean SP.
Patrick needs the 4S.
Shoma needs to clean up those landings.
Nathan needs another year.
Rippon needs to do the quad combo.

Shoma needs less pre-rotation on that 4F.
Javi also needs less pre-rotation. And faster speed.

^What I think, at least. Too bad the judges don't seem to think so.

... off topic, sorry.

Now back on track, predictions:

Men
... don't want to jinx it.

Pairs
I think D/R will be first clean or with minor mistakes. Y/Z second, but they can be first if they are clean and D/R have major mistake(s). M/S third, because injury. As for the rest, it may depend on whether P/J (Peng in particular) can land the SBS jumps.

Ladies
Russian podium, Med - Pogo - Radio. Order for the rest depends on the tech caller...

Dance
Ahaha I don't understand ID. Maybe one day......

IMHO, Medvedeva is as overrated by the ISU judges as her jumps are underrotated. I really have no explanation for the GOE's she receives for her wrong technique in jumps.

^ I'm just waiting for her body to mature and her form to implode. She's not going to have those twig-like legs forever. And then jumping is definitely gonna get harder.

I'm not hating on her or anything, I just think this happens to all teens sooner or later.

Ashley, no. Gracie, I would have mortgaged my house, sadly.

The ladies are not fighting for Silver. Medvedeva is not unbeatable, not in reality anyway. Perhaps the judges will join reality.

I think Anna & Lena & to lesser Kaetlyn stand some chance to beat Evgenia if they skate their best - skate their lights out also purely on interpretation level basically with no tech panel instrusions. At very least I think their programs are better this season but unfortunately judges don't care all that much about it, Lena significantly polished up herself this season which is great to see, does not give me arm-flappingly impression almost. Maybe some judges may start looking differently at Medvedeva (less indulgence for her) when she will face stronger opposition than before. I think it may depend from how every one will skate too even skaters like Sotskova that I don't see in top 3, if it's even among all 6 skaters than the best one faces better chance at beating Medvedeva in my oppinion as there would be less space for judges to give her boost, esp. in FS :biggrin: Whether we like it or not PCS is treated more and more like ordinals so it makes sense. Obviously I wish Medvedeva good performances too as I am not a hater, just rooting for other skaters here ;) Either way I expect Zhenya to win win (well, platitude) but by smaller margin than people expect this time over the next classified skater. 2nd Anna, 3rd Elena. If Evgenia does not fall or pop (even less likely) I don't see chance for any upset though as long as they keep on giving +2, +3 GOE to her tano jumps. Maybe this time it will be different as they would have direct contrast vs bigger jumps of Anna with new-found consistency.

In Men: 1. Yuzuru 2. Javi 3. Adam - my bet. So I sense small upset - no Patrick on the podium. Or maybe it's my wishful thinking as I am die-hard Rippon fan. :laugh: Let me dream! I like Patrick too (even more than Javi actually) but this what I want. Either way I look forward to witness first landed 4S by Patrick in competition no matter what ;)

I think Anna has a better chance to win then most here think. Remember judges put her ahead of Evgenia in the short in Boston. But she needs a mistake from Evgenia. I root for Anna or Kaetlyn to win, their skating impress me much more than the jumps with a crooked arm above the head, crammed in the second part of the program. I hope judges will eventually get tired of this as well...consistency or not...

I'm most excited for the Maria versus Elena showdown here. Who will judges prefer? It will probably impact what goes down at Nationals and who makes the world team, assuming that Evgenia is 1 and Anna is 2. Maria and Elena are fighting for that third spot, and heck, I'm not even sure who I prefer. At CoC Elena looked less sloppy than she did last year (not so much at CoR) so I might be shifting from my stance of hating Elena's messy jumps. I love her SP and she's more fun to watch than Maria - but I do think Elena gets overrewarded considering the other sloppy aspects of her skating, and I like seeing underdogs like Maria succeed.

If everyone skates their best:
1. Evgenia
2. Anna
3. Kaetlyn
4-6: Elena, Maria, Satoko in any possible order

But I do think Kaetlyn is more prone to major mistakes than all of the other ladies, and she has to be perfect to get bronze in this field. I'm also not going to declare that Anna will be perfect - mistakes happen. Satoko has made more mistakes this season than we've seen from her in the past. So it's Evgenia, Elena, and Maria who are most likely to skate clean, but Elena and Maria are both very beatable by Kaetlyn and Anna if those two skate well. Satoko's got a tougher road because she doesn't have the big gorgeous jumps that Anna and Kaetlyn do.

Has Zhenya been in a competition with Shin Amano as the carrot seller? Or has she just been in competitions with non-carrot sellers technical specialists.

Maria seems to be, among the four Russian ladies, to be most prone to get carrots.

Not Shin Amano, but IIRC at Skate Canada this year, the technical controller/specialist/whoever it is that sells carrots was extremely strict.

ETA: And Evgenia had a 2A that received a carrot.

Overall, I think we've seen stricter calls this season on the GP than in years past. I like that, because more generous calling always seems to favor skaters with better reputations.

Ares, I agree with nearly everything you said about the ladies event. My only difference is I think Kaitlyn has a chance to edge out Elena here. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part because I enjoy Kaitlyn's style and jumps more (when she's on, of course). i do think Elena has less arm flailing, but her posture still detracts from her skating somewhat. I hope they all do well and we see a great competition!

For the men's event, I like the way you think because I'm really enjoying Adam's programs this season! I wasn't that brave, and in my predictions for Predictions Game, I have him in 6th place :slink: but I would love to be wrong!

Kaetlyn obviously is very, very likely to beat Elena but I have a feeling that it's going to be Russian sweep. As for Adam, well it's also very likely that he will finish 6th, he also barely qualified for GPF.

Yeah I took a chance and put Kaetlyn in 3rd in my predictions, but you are probably right! :)

The final destination of the gold will really depend on Yuzuru's consistency on his quads. Since Javi has been really AWESOME in his free, Yuzuru has to get at least 5 out of 6 quads done to secure the gold, also provided that he doesn't make any major mistake (fall/pop).

Yuzuru's SB is almost 9 points higher than Javier's, the skate with a fall in the free and a missed combo, stepout in SP. There still seems to be some cushion.

I agree that Med will probably win if she is clean. I adore Anna's programs this year and
would like to see her upset the apple cart.

As far as the men I would have Hanyu in first but really I have no clue how the Men
will end up.

For me the Ice Dance competition will be most exciting discipline! Can't wait!
