Looking at the protocols Satoko got a major edge in TES with her Level 4 step sequence, and all three spins graded Level 4 with many +3 GOEs to boot. :cheer:

Wow, holy UR. Super stringent caller.. Possibly too much? Even the smallest hooks were called and I'm not sure if all of those were over 1/4.

The UR calls were too much. Really. Buuuut the event is over and the results are oddly satisfying. Hopefully Japan gets a more reasonable tech panel next time -_-

They are probably oh-so-strict on everyone in this competition (especially on the ladies) because they want the Japanese ladies to have an edge against the Russian ladies who are great jumpers.

23 skaters out of 24 with at least one </<< jump :shocked: Anyway (despite what the technical panel thinks) a great competition overall!

It's nice to see the Japanese being strict in their marks and calls. They clearly respect the sport more than other countries who neglect technical calls and overinflate just for show. It honestly is better in the long run as skaters are actually made aware of what needs to be worked on instead of getting a false sense of positive reinforcement.

It's weird though that the Tech specialists giving skaters > but the judges didn't deduct any points...

Miyahara planned to go for two 2axel-3toes according to Shizuka arakawa because she has a tendency to get UR calls on 3lutz-3toe.

So happy for Satoko her FS is divine and her skating makes me so happy. Oh Kanako I hope you continue skating because it would be a loss to figure skating if you retired.

EDIT: NVM she's going to Worlds :yay:

I don't think you have to give -GOE for >s, you just deduct GOE from whatever you would've given the jump otherwise (so the GOE can still be 0 or even positive). >> is guaranteed -GOE though.

not sure if someone mentioned this already but I had no idea you could use 2A+3T twice? does that mean you could technically do a 3LZ+3Toe twice? I guess the 2A+3T is more of a point grabber since you don't get added points for doing a 3LZ+3T vs doing the jumps individually

You could do a 3Lz-3T twice but then you can't repeat any other triple, which hurts because you still have five jumping passes left. The advantage of doing 2A+3T twice is that you use the two 2As but only use two triples (and repeat just the toe).

You can repeat a combination as you like so long as you don't violate the Zayak rule.

I've gotta say- I hate Rika's posture and find her kind of meh, but I'm loving her consistency and continuous improvement!
 I agree with you. I see her improvement from gpf to nationals. She's a good student!

 good thinking! It will benefit the skaters eventually in a long term.:cheer: I like this nurturing culture that Japanese skating field has.

Satoko was just a dream! I am happy for her score and placement. She got 1.54goe, lv4 on her stsq. Brilliant performance! Hope she corrects URs as pointed out on the score sheet before worlds. They are not too many;)
