One of my favorite costumes of all time is definitely my skating wife Maria Butyrskaya's "Scene d' Amour"costume. Beautiful color, beautiful style, beautiful woman.

I actually remember when she changed her dress for the 2001 Worlds from the aqua to a beige and though I liked the style of the dress, I preferred the aqua color on her.

I looove Nicole Bobek's Doctor Zhivago dress
Quite like Nancy Kerrigan's and Kristy Yamaguchi's LP dresses from Albertville and both Kerrigan's 1994 Olympic dresses (much more than her programs).
Out of modern skaters, I think Alissa Czisny is a very stylish skater. I absolutely adore her Sabrina, Doctor Zhivago,Romance and, of course,La Vie en rose dresses.
Akiko Suzuki had some really nice dresses:this Hymne a l'amour one, this POTO dress, this Die Fledermaus dress. Overall, I can't remember Akiko in a horrible dress.
What else? I like Sasha's Moonlight Sonata dress, Joannie's Aranjuez dress, Kiira's Evita dress.
In ice dance I like Tessa Virtue's Valse Triste dress, Nathalie Pechalat's 2007 CD and 2011 OD dresses, Meryl's 2011 Worlds OD dress... Yeah.

How could I forget the Sinead and John Kerr's 2007-2008 OD costumes? Sinead's outfit is really nice, and John Kerr in a kilt!

Firstly, apologies that this comment has been delayed for so long.

I got the comment itself wrote out pretty quickly, but then got bogged down with trying to find the best photos of each costume. I am far too much of a perfectionist for my own good, and looking at so many pictures of dresses and not being happy with them was driving me mad. So I ended up taking a few too many long breaks away from it!

But, it's finished now! :cheer:

When I saw this thread, costumes immediately started popping into my head. So, I decided to list all of them!

Although they are not in order of how much I like them, I have tried to put them in some sort of sensible order, where one leads on from the last.

The first 2 should be pretty familiar to you all, seeing as they have both appeared in custom Avatars that I have used this season!

OK, so the picture used in my first custom Avatar was chosen to celebrate the moment it depicted (Adelina Sotnikova and Liza Tuktamysheva getting on the podium at Europeans in 2013). But the pictures used in my next 2 Avatars were chosen purely because if the dresses being worn.

CaroLiza_fan avatar #2: Liza Tuktamysheva (2015 GP Final Gala)
CaroLiza_fan avatar #3: Carolina Kostner (2003 Junior Worlds FS)

Liza Tuktamysheva: Red Dress (2014/15 Gala)

I have loved Liza’s red dress from the first time I saw it. Over the years, I always thought Liza suited wearing black, but after seeing her in this dress, red is definitely her colour.

It is so beautiful – the colour, the pattern, the shape. Although, recent events have made me wonder whether it is suitable for skating in…

Carolina Kostner: Gold Dress (2002/03 SP)

The reason I like Caro’s gold dress so much is that this was the dress she was wearing the first time I saw her skating, at the 2003 European Championships.

It is so simple. And simple dresses are often the most beautiful… and the most effective.

Mao Asada: Gold Dress (2013/14 Gala)

Like Carolina, Mao has been around for a long time. And there are so many beautiful dresses that she has worn. But this has to be one of the most beautiful dresses I have seen any skater wearing. Again, like Caro’s Gold Dress, it is so simple, yet so effective.

Anna Pogorilaya: Suit / Gold Dress (2014/15 Gala)

I have made no secret that this is my favourite Gala routine of the current season. Everything about the routine is just absolute genius. And the most genius part of it is the costume. We have seen many costume changes in the middle of routines in recent years, but this has to be the most effective and dramatic one I have ever seen.

I also love the way that the second part of Anna’s costume is so similar to the dress that Conchita Wurst wore while singing this song at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest. But, it works so much better on Anna, probably because Anna is an extremely beautiful girl, whereas Conchita is a bloke!

Fumie Suguri: Black Dress / Black Corset & Hot Pants (2012 Oberstdorf Eisgala)

Another costume change. This had a much clumsier transition than Anna Pogo’s, because Fumie had to un-do a zip and take the dress off completely. But, I loved both costumes. Especially the lower one. Fumie may not be the skater she used to be, but she can still do it.

Mao Asada: Mary Poppins Costume (2012/13 Gala)

OK, so I had to put in a second option for Mao! But, this is actually the one that always pops into my mind first. Admittedly, it may not be the image that people normally see in their heads when they think of Mary Poppins. But I love the way that this dress has been taken straight from the film.

Julia Lipnitskaia: Red Coat (2013/14 SP)

Last season, I was getting emotional every time Julia did her “Schindler's List” routine. I know the story of the film is very emotional, but it never got to me like that whenever anybody else has ever done a routine to the same music. The main reason for this is that Julia has a way of expressing herself that really endears her to you. But, this costume also played a big part. It may not be the exact same design used in the film, but it still effective.

Adelina Sotnikova: Blue Flapper Dress (2012/13 Gala)

Most of the time, I find tassels to be far too distracting during skating routines. But, sometimes they can add a whole new dimension to the routine. This is one of those occasions. Adelina may not have been able to go for the full stripper look because of her age (she was only 16 at the time), but this costume still manages to get the message across without being revealing.

Akiko Suzuki: PVC Jacket / Gold Dress (2011/12 Gala)

I know, it’s another Gala routine using the “Burlesque” theme. But, this one is hotter than Adelina’s! Which is strange, considering that Akiko is wearing what could very easily be considered as a normal figure skating dress. But what a beautiful dress it is. Simple, yet glamorous at the same time.

Alena Leonova: Pirate Costume (2011/12 SP)

I loved pirates when I was a little boy. I collected all the Pirate Lego. So, of course I was going to love Alena’s pirate costume.

Javier Fernandez: Pirate Costume (2010/11 FS)

Same reasoning as I used for Leonova, above. And I have to be honest: even though Alena is really fit, I prefer Javi's costume.

Evgeni Plushenko: Black Jumpsuit, Red Waistcoat, Silver Tie (2009/10 FS)

I am a massive fan of Plushenko, so I had to include him in this list. But, I had bother finding a suitable costume, because he has had so many costumes that are just wrong on every possible level! Black is definitely his best colour, and this is probably the classiest of his many black costumes.

Kevin van der Perren: Skeleton Costume (2009/10 SP)

I know I shouldn’t, but I just love it! There are far more anatomically correct skeleton costumes out there, but this one was effective enough the way it was.

Aljona Savchenko / Robin Szolkowy: Pink Panther / Inspector Clouseau Costumes (2010/11 SP)

And now a set of costumes I shouldn’t love, but do! This is an iconic piece of music, and whenever somebody hears it, the same image comes into their heads. So, like Julia and her “Schindler’s List” routine or Mao and her “Mary Poppins” routine, they have let the theme take over the whole performance. And, even though I may not be keen on pink things in general, in this case it works.

Tatiana Volosozhar / Maxim Trankov: Black Casual Costumes (2011/12 SP)

Well, you can’t have Aljona and Robin without having Tatiana and Maxim, can you?! These are not your typical figure skating costumes. In fact, it looks like Tatiana and Maxim have just walked in off the street. But that is the beauty of these costumes. At first glance, it looks like no effort has been made in picking a costume. They seem so understated. But the fact that the costumes are so effective makes it obvious that a LOT of effort put into making them just right. Every little detail has been thought out to add something to the performance. I particularly like the studs down the seams of Maxim’s trousers.

Nelli Zhiganshina / Alexander Gazsi: Zombie Costumes (2012/13 FD)

How can you not love these costumes?! The whole concept of this routine is absolute genius. And that includes the costumes. Their quirkiness will be sadly missed.

Fabian Bourzat: Egyptian Costume (2012/13 FD)

I have to be honest, I actually had another costume in mind for Fabian. But when I went searching for photos, the results included photos from this routine and I thought “How did I not think of that one?!” So, instead of his 2010/11 “George Of The Jungle” Gala costume (which let’s face it, although it is fun, there is far too much flesh on show), we have something that is more appropriate to me. I love everything to do with Ancient Egypt!

Nathalie Péchalat: Blue Dress (2012/13 Gala)

Well, you can’t have Fabian without Nathalie, can you? But, I had a major problem trying to choose a favourite costume for her. You see, even a bin bag would look great on Nathalie! After a lot of thinking, I had to go for the blue dress she wore in the “People Are Strange” Gala routine. I absolutely love that routine, and one of the things that I particularly love about it is that dress.

Elena Ilinykh: Black Ballet Dress (2013/14 FD)

Although I have never been a fan of ballet, I have always loved Tchaikovsky’s music. And of all the “Swan Lake” routines I have seen, this is probably my favourite. It helps that Elena is another of these skaters who could make a bin bag look great on her. Being a guy, I’m not into pink/white ballet dresses. But, this black one works for me!

Gabriela Papadakis: Black PVC Dress (2014/15 Gala)

I’ve said it before about Gabriela in this Gala, and I’ll say it again. “I’m not religious, but she can take me to church any time!” 3 words come to mind: HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

There is another set of costumes I love that popped up in my mind, but I think I better not open that discussion again…

Apologies that the list is nearly exclusively from the past few seasons. It’s just that it is harder to remember particular costumes from further back.

You know, looking down the list of favourite costumes I have made, I realised something. It is nearly all made up of the costumes from my favourite programmes from my favourite skaters.

Which in itself begs the question – do I love the costumes because they are associated with routines that I love. Or are the costumes a major part of the reason I love the routines so much?

Answers on a postcard to…

My favourite costumes are Pechalat/Bourzat's ones. Always original and perfectly matching the themes. Special mentions to the Egyptian costumes, the Little Prince and his Rose, and also the costume of their FD about Crazyness (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp4ZC4y6cO8) with the expandable sleeves.

Well of course Tara Lipinski's "Anastasia" dress. So elegant and made her look at least two years older than the 8 y/o she was. HAHA j/k

Kwan's Lyrica (simple and she looked perfect in it)
Lipnitskaia's Schindler's List (just brilliant imo)
Kerrigan's 4th of July in 92
Sasha anything except her Blue/Yellow Rach dress.

Pretty much everything Michelle Kwan wore from 1997/98 season onward was a winner.

Isn't that when she started working with Vera Wang? All of her skating costumes were lovely and hardly any illusion fabric in sight. I think my favorite one is her "Scheherazade" which was red with the gold accents. Too bad that was the one she won her Olympic Bronze in and how disappointed she was.

This is sooo hard to pick! Mainly because I have costumes I like but I am not sure if I gush over some of them... Well, let's try to pick something.

I think Peggy Fleming legendary dress needs to be mentioned: http://media2.popsugar-assets.com/f...955530.xxxlarge/i/Peggy-Fleming-Wins-Gold.jpg

Also, I kinda like the dresses of all 1988 Olympics ladies medalists. Katarina's charming Carmen, Liz's cutesy fairy and Debi's elegant dress. - http://www.germany.info/contentblob/2620932/Galeriebild_gross/476639/KatarinaWittp2.jpg, http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/obj/001064/f1/0614manley8-v6.jpg, http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-FO649_OLYSEC_HV_20100211180958.jpg

Oksana Baiul Swan Lake dresses are everything. - http://goldmedalimpressions.com/images/P/F3852776.jpg, http://c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000peMT2S_H5aE/s/750/750/Oksana-Baiul-UKR-1994-Oly-1.jpg

I am addicted to Michelle's Salome dress. Well, I am addicted to the whole program. - http://www.freewebs.com/caterina93/96salome_pose.jpg
I also like her Song of the black swan World's outfit: http://icefashion.tripod.com/2001worlds/mkpurp.jpg
And this one is sooo beautiful and elegant! Also, my favourite colour: http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I00002ddrWWUpRfg/s/860/860/kwan-purple-masterfs01-6x10-200.jpg
Also this one: http://www.jayadeff.com/Campbells2004/IMG_2559.jpg
The Sheherezade dress is pretty... If only she could win gold in it. - http://static.businessinsider.com/i...wan-won-silver-in-1998-and-bronze-in-2002.jpg

Shizuka also has very cool outfits: http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/MSNBC/C...skating/ss-100120-wang-olympic-fashion-02.jpg, http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Citi+Ice+Rink+Opening+Ceremony+Mn-EETVH57ox.jpg, http://i1.sinaimg.cn/ty/o/p/2011-07-23/U6604P6T12D5671423F168DT20110723115919.jpg, http://40.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvs30ycU7j1qklgayo1_500.jpg, https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/53/4d/82/534d82abbac10ff6e8b008d8bc66e79b.jpg

And Sasha as well: http://s29.photobucket.com/user/_polkadots_/media/SashaOlySP.jpg.html, http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/olympics/2006/writers/02/23/ladies.program/p1_022306_cohen_getty.jpg, http://www1.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Marshalls+Figure+Skating+Challenge+x_c6Ygjy26vl.jpg

Yuna is probably one of the best dressed ladies. I can't pick a favourite one, so many great ones. Just some mentions, the Vancouver one is iconic: , http://www.sportsfeatures.com/PressPoint/images/48734-olympic-image1.jpg, http://www.oasport.it/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/yuna-kim.jpg, http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7ihtsLwjE1qjmcito1_r1_500.jpg, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Kim_2009_TEB_SP.jpg, http://i2.media.daumcdn.net/photo-media/201205/04/sportschosun/20120504222416486.jpg

And Mao as well. Her Sochi LP dress is pure perfection: http://jto.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/p16-jack-b-20140319.jpg, http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Mao+Asada+ISU+Four+Continents+Figure+Skating+m48K7T4VBIFl.jpg, http://blogs.c.yimg.jp/res/blog-4f-b2/jicho2724ech/folder/1515244/24/61877824/img_1?1386767296 (my profile pic!), http://www.semanticsys.org/wallpaper/mao-asada/mao-asada-16938.jpg, http://fskating.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Mao-Asada-at-Japan-championships-2012.jpg

Ok, I was wrong... I am gushing over half of these dresses.
