Can someone please translate what the volunteer said about meeting Lena? The GoogleTranslate translation didn't make sense...

Something about it not looking like a figure skating competition but more like a Miss World competition..?

Well, I won't be awake when Lena skates. She has a pretty good starting order (finally!), so hopefully she can skate clean and get a new personal best. :agree: GOOO LENA!!! :hap10: :hap10:

I asked her how does she find the city. She replied that she didn't have the time yet to see it. But she will after the competition. That it's very cozy and comfortable she congratulate as and that we tried hard. Then as i was accompanied her to the conference hall ... another volunteer come and said to here that it doesn't look like a figure skating competition but miss word. Then Lena laughed and replied "Yes, we the figure skaters we are like that, we are all beautiful"

Looks like it'll come down to Elena and Liza for the World team. I wouldn't send Maria, an inexperienced skater on the World stage, to such an important event.

Glad to see a clean skate from Lena; the vamping before the step sequence gets me every time.

about this gesture... Elena thinking that she had stolen two points: the first estimate was more than 71. However, Inna Germanovna they promised to investigate. Later it turned out that nothing was stolen, but they looked to the coach on the wrong assessment, 71 - is its SB

While I would love to see Lena once more, but imho sending her or Liza to Worlds would not be fair to Masha. Also, meh just worlds, its probably better to end season early to come in full shape next season.

Congrats to Lena on skating practically clean with no underrrotations and winning the SP! :agree:
Yes, I'm not surprised that she seemed a bit disappointed with the score, but she did lose levels on one spin and the step sequence, and the judges were kinda stingy with the PCS...

I hope Lena can skate her heart out in the free skate and win! GOOO LENA!!! :hap10: :hap10:

It's possible. There's a fair bit of discussion in the Winter Universiade thread about a skate-off for Worlds between Lena and Maria Sotskova.

I personally would much prefer to see Lena at Worlds than Maria, but it's what the Rus Fed want at the end of the day…

Lena probably needed to be perfect here to eliminate all doubts as to who should go, but she still had a better competition than Sotskova at Europeans, and a better season overall.

Looking ahead to the Olympics, I think it's important that she's considered among the top 3 russians to have a leg up on making the team.

Agreed. My hope is that she doesn't go to Worlds this year and spends the extra free time training for next year. I think she has to really improve/stand out to make the Olympic team next year. I hate to sound negative but in her current condition, she would not be representing Russia for Olympics. Shame because she could probably be good enough to represent any other country...

Congrats to Lena on winning gold!! :yahoo: I know she made mistakes and wasn't happy about them, but still, it's nice to go home with a medal!

It must be nice for Lena to be done with the competition so early (ladies is not usually the first to finish). Now she can relax and tour Almaty or watch some of the other sports. :agree:

Interview:
http://tass.ru/sport/3992847
GoogleTranslate:
"I'm disappointed with the way skated the long program - admitted Radionova -. Of course, I should have skated clean, but unfortunately, I do not know why it happened. All jumping when I flew, it was light..."
"The beginning of the program was very good - did a triple-triple combination, but then something happened. I need to analyze all this... I have attached great importance to this competition, and responsibly prepared for it, and it is a pity that I was not able to show here, what I have done."

I think Lena is saying that her jumps were in good shape before she left for Almaty. And it does seem like her 3Lz is the best it has been since the 2014-15 season. She was constantly having rough landings on the lutz, but they looked quite clean at the Universiade. I'm not surprised she's still struggling with the loop though--that one seems to rely a lot on the correct timing, and that's tough to master when she's still getting used to her body.

Lena also mentions that she hopes she has a chance to go to Worlds, and that she might participate in some more domestic competitions.

I'm kinda doubtful that the Russian Fed will send her instead of Masha unless she has two amazing performances at an upcoming competition.
Even then, I think Buyanova has the clout to convince the Fed to send Masha over Lena. :dev2: I think she would be pissed if she had no skaters going to Worlds while Goncharenko has two...

Like Seruleane, I do think it would be better for Lena to train extra hard instead of go to Worlds, but I worry that 1) Lena will lose motivation to train if she doesn't go to Worlds and feels like she won't have a chance to make the Olympic team, and 2) the judges will see her as a second-tier skater if she's not among the "top 3" going to Worlds. Her PCS were already lower than in her GP events... :noshake:

However, I hope that the experience of going to Universiade--of mingling with the other Russian athletes from different sports and walking in the opening ceremony--will make Lena REALLY want to go to the Olympics and therefore willing to work very hard.

Apparently in the press conference, Inna "said with a smile, that Lena is very hard-working, and has a lot of her own ideas, but it all depends on her mood: there is sun, there are clouds."

So I guess we shall see what happens...

My guess is no. As much as I would like to see Lena again this season, they should respect the team that they selected.
I would say Lena deserves to go to WC. But her current condition doesn't guarantee very high finish.
