Why do not she take it with her? :palmf:

I think the inference is that she DID take them with her, but they were in her checked bag (as they have to be basically everywhere) and that perhaps the airline lost her bag.

I mean why she did not put her skates in the carry-on bag?, Is that allowed? If I was her I would put my costumes and skates in that bag.

That's only allowed in the US and Canada. Nowhere else in the world are these allowed in carry-on. If they had a stop anywhere she'd have to have checked them.

You almost make it sound like you think she deserves to lose them. This is not her fault.

I did not know she was not allowed to do that. Of course if she was obligated to put her skates in the checked baggage is not her fault at all.

Most airlines don't allow that. Blades of the skating boots can be considered pretty much harmful.

This has to be every skater's worst nightmare and was recently very costly to Daniel Samohin at Euros. Forgive my ignorance, but could skaters unscrew their blades from their boots and check those only? It seems like blades would be slightly more replaceable than individually broken-in boots.

As I replied to this exact question in the pairs thread, unmounting and remounting blades is not as easy as it looks. Having to do it so frequently would wear out the holes in the boot. Additionally, even the slightest alignment error when remounting could cause problems, particularly for skaters in a category as risky as pairs.

It's unfortunate too. Hockey players have adapted and the top of the line hockey skates have easy release blades that can be replaced in about 30 seconds if need be. I don't think anyone is even considering developing a "quick change" design for figure skating but it was the NHL players who were a part of developing and expressing a need for the technology. I think it would be not only possible but beneficial to skaters who travel and compete to have more easily replaceable figure skating blades. The way we do it now is not the optimal way IMO and leaves skaters vulnerable.

Hockey players aren't trying to land with heavy impact on the blade. I completely understand why we don't have a quick-release system yet - it would be patently dangerous if done wrong!
