Hello

New to this forum. I hope this is not a stupid question.

My daughter (14 years old, elite skater with up to triple loop) has been using Risport boots for the past 3-4 years with no issue whatsoever. We had to buy a new pair beginning of February (RF1 (exclusive), those are the exact same boots she had the year before. Everything went fine for the first month and then one day, with no particular event, she could not put the boot back on because of some pain above the ankle bone on the exterior side (right foot).

Went to Dr., physio, foot specialist and everybody tells me her feet is fine and that she is describing friction pain. So went back to the store, they modified the tongue, claiming that it was rubbing on the bone, and added some padding in the tongue to. For the first 2 days after that she skated completely pain free (I though it was a miracle) and on the 3rd day, the pain was back. So we went back again and they explain that the extra padding had flattened out and added more and a little more rigid. Boots were fine in the store, she was doing the moves that usually hurts her and no pain, she was also just off the ice so her foot was already 'in pain'.....

Next day when she put them back on, the pain is back.....

I am discourage, I am not sure what i should do next....
Any advice or ideas or same story sharing would be helpful....

Many many thanks.

This happened with my skating partner's custom Harlicks, this happened where the tendon on the side of the foot above the ankle got irritated. It starts out as something pretty small and then the tendon gets irritated, and it can become tendonitis. They ended up having to punch out a channel from the ankle punchout in almost a straight line up to near the top of the boot. Hope you figure it out.

Oh my.
I did not even know you could have them punched that high....
I will go back to the shop tomorrow and ask about it.
Does punching them reduce their lifetime ?

I am sure that it does, but he is still in the same pair so hopefully not by a lot.

Most fitters do at least one or more of them. For a full custom, Harlick, SP Teri are good. Jackson and Riedell will also do a lot of custom. I'm sure Risport will also. If her fitter sells Risport, they can reach out to the factory to see what they can do. If anyone your daughter skates with has customs, you can ask them where they get fit.

Moore's skate shop in Southern Ontario has a fantastic reputation if you are anywhere near there.

And yes they are more money. From $900 USD upwards. The harlicks I tried were $1200, my Jacksons were around $900.

Right, Guess it depends on the brand on what qualifies for semi custom or full custom? Seems like Riedell will do almost anything for semi-custom as long as there is only 1-2 changes to the stock boot.

Wow.
Thank you so much. i will get infos on it.
We are near Montreal, we usually go to La maison du patin and i relly like them. They are always looking for solutions.

When you say 'custom', does that mean that they modify the skate for her or it is a complete new boot ?

Custom is made around her foot. IT's not a stock boot.
