The 15th Tirnavia Ice Cup will take place Oct 27-29, 2023, in Trnava, Slovakia. The event will feature the Singles discipline (Women and Men) in the Novice, Junior and Senior categories and will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules for Single & Pair Skating and relevant ISU Communications.

We are jumping back and forth between the two parts tomorrow. But, it settles down on Friday, when we just have the last 2 Interclub competitions at the start of the day, and then move to the ISU competitions for the rest of the event.

I don't know if it is a mistake, but there is a skater with a French flag next to her name entered for the Junior competition in the National part of the event. I looked her up, and she does actually represent France (although she belongs to a Swiss club). So it is not the sofware getting confused like it did at the Tayside Trophy (where a skater representing the Slough club had a Slovenian flag put next to her name). It will be interesting to see if it was an administration error where her name was accidentally put down for this Junior competition instead of the ISU Junior competition, or if this is actually her intended competition. I guess we'll find out when she takes to the ice.

By the way, does anybody know if Miroslav HAGARA, who is competing in the Juvenile competition, is a younger brother of Adam and Alexandra? Or if he is related to them in some other way? They all belong to the local club (Krasokorčuliarsky klub Trnava).

What?! The picture is staying quarter screen for the programmes?! I thought it was only going to be like that for the Warm-Up.

No, they were just slow in bringing the picture to full-screen.

Never seen anybody skating to "Maybe" from "Annie" before. But, it really worked for the little girl that opened the competition. Of course, as somebody who was in my school's production of "Annie", I would have preferred her to be wearing a red dress and red wig for authenticity. But, what she was wearing worked.

Now that I've seen "Maybe" being skated to, I want to see it done more often.

Lots of support for the second girl coming on. She must belong to the local club.

I have thought for years that the "Duck Tales" theme tune would be great for skating to. And now the last skater in Group 2 is proving that it is!



What is more appropriate music for a skater of this age than the theme tune for a Disney cartoon?

With the livescoring not working, and the competition running way behind schedule, I am losing count of where we are. Good job we have reached a Warm-Up, because it allows us to find our bearings. (Actually, we are pretty much back on schedule).

The coach for the second skater in the final group must be very close to the microphone, because we heard her shouting for the whole of the Group 3 Warm-Up.

After only having one skater that didn't represent Slovakia in the opening ompetition, this competition has loads. That said, the skater that just finished is the only one in the opening group.

She is representing Romania, but has a double-barrelled surname where both parts are recognisably Hungarian.

I always find family backgrounds interesting. So, if she sticks with it and starts competing in Junior GP's when she is older, I hope we get to hear her back story.

Beautiful programme. And lots of gifts for her.

After 2 more Slovakian skaters, we will have 4 Hungarians going back-to-back in this second group. And the coach for the third one (the penultimate skater in the group) was very close to the microphone during the warm-up!

Sometimes I wish I could understand the languages the coaches are speaking. And at other times, I think maybe it is a good job I cant!

No, sorry, but the costume the girl from South Africa is wearing is totally inappropriate for a skater of any age never mind one this young.

Because so much of the dress is skin coloured, it looks like she is wearing the skimpiest of silver bikinis, with tassles hanging from it.

And it wasn't as if it tied in with the music. She was skating to "Just Around The River Bend" from "Pocahontas".

If it was me, I would be giving deductions for a costume violation.

Judging by the way he is just hanging doubled over in his starting position, I take it this isn't the correct music for the first skater.

After a wee chat with the Judges, and a wee spin around the rink, he got into position again and different music started ("The Circle Of Life" from "The Lion King"). But it was still not right.

When he didn't start skating, they tried a third different piece of music, while he was still hanging doubled over. And he started, so it must have been right this time.

Well, it is the chaos category! Anything can happen!

Young Hagara was actually very good.

It's hard to judge if Miroslav looks like Adam or Alexandra. Partly because he is so much younger than them, but also because he has blonde hair whereas they have brown. I think I can see a slight similarlity, but maybe that is just me imagining it because I want it to be the case.

Right, it looks like these are the youngest girls competing.

A lot of chanting from the audience when the first skater was announced. Well, she is from the local club.

She went out, and crouched down in the fog. And stayed there for ages waiting for music to start. Eventually, she was called over to the Judges. She did some warming up, and then went back to the boards.

Aha! Finally some music. She rushed out into the ice to join in. But then she was told to wait until she was anounced again, and then get into starting position.

Beautiful programme.

She finished the programme in the same position that she started in. And she stayed in that position for a long time after the music finished. Somebody actually had to tell her that she could get up now! So cute!
