We'll just have to agree to disagree because I've seen more than 3 expressions on Raf's face when working with skaters.

But that’s one of the things love about him. No cheesing. All business while everyone is cheering around him in delight in the kiss and cry. He smiles on the inside. :)

I am going to be really surprised if it is a coaching change only because that doesn't seem like something to be announced like this. A preview to a big announcement screams something more fun than a coaching change. Probably a new program or something else not related to her competitive career. I know she changed agents a year or so ago to a more entertainment based agent so maybe it means something happening for her this summer.

Ashley just posted on Instagram-

“Exciting news and big changes coming your way soon! Stay tuned...”

Hmmmm 🤔 what could it be at this time of the year and everything that’s going on with her?

lol She's leaving Raf? She's retiring? She and Adam are getting married? She's shaving her head?

Agreed. One does not post a cute picture on Instagram with a cheerfully optimistic caption to foreshadow the firing of a longtime coach 4 weeks before Nationals.

Personally I'm rooting for her to ditch singles and form a new pair team with Adam.

:eek:topic: Completely OT but is there any skating going on this weekend? Or maybe videos of a smaller event last weekend that I might have missed?

Mao gets some life into his face too! https://youtu.be/W5G3Ns2i86U?t=438

Ashley gets plenty of life into Raf's face too. https://youtu.be/rPJbXWylVNM?t=7m30s If you have an extra 60 seconds, watch starting from 6:22 also. You'll see a myriad of facial expressions from Raf. My only quibble is with his stubble. :noshake:

Don't need to speculate. His expression said it all

Do you mean this expression, raised eyebrows and an encouraging smile after Ashley's SA sp? https://youtu.be/qRx8ctb9Pvc?t=3m42s Or do you mean the several different expressions that came after this? Or, perhaps, the patiently waiting (some would say stoic) look while they waited for the scores in the few seconds before?

And I see genuine concern on his face in this one, when she comes off the ice after withdrawing from the FS. He knew she was hurting. https://youtu.be/jKBn3npH3Ew?t=27m50s

I don't know why people refuse to see all these genuine, caring moments from Raf toward Ashley.

No, but here are some suitable replacements for our current set of skaters

Are you a fan of new Russian skater Alina Zagitova's Don Quixote?
Here's Tiffany Chin's Don Quixote.

Wow, look at that, a jump timed to music instead of 37 jumping passes in a row.

I've heard praise of Hanyu's spread eagle-axel-spread eagle, but look at this
Peggy Flemming's spread eagle, axel, spread eagle

Just for fun
Linda Fratianne, silver Olympic medalist like our favorite skater, once did an exhibition to Chariots of Fire, while wearing ....uh... quite a bit of illusion fabric

all this ashley's drama is really pity but it's just hype for nothing. we had gracie who can be the world champ but was struggled with consistency like osmond now. her case is really bad. but ashley never was a really top skater with her ured jumps and overdramatic face on the ice which looks more funny than something else. yeah she took a silver medal at world cup in boston but.. mirai is another case i hope she will win nationals and will land two axels in the free program at olympics. her main problem she can't gain enough consistency after doing two triple axels and all other jumps are damaged with urs and falls. but hopefully she can handle herself

It's not hair color or costume change, she's done those so far without announcements..she might be getting a new cat.

Speaking of Mirai's Axels. Has anyone commented on the choreo and preparation going into them? She skates to one part of the rink and looks ready to take off, then lowers her arms and skates to another part with no choreography at all and then jumps?

I've noticed that is the case in both short and the free.

perhaps it gives her a confidence boost. i watched many times kihira's triple axles at practice and she was jumping them like nothing, like simple triple toeloops. but when programs were starting, music went on, after a couple choreography moves she jumped triple axel and always fell on it. in mirai's case i guess she felt the same and decided to jumping it like at practice without any unnecessary choreography moves. and it works. it's fine by me.
