Agree, Maria did looked better. Maybe she was more realxed now that she has been assured to be on team Russia :) Though I still liked Anna more, but I'm gravely biased ;)

She has been improving a lot during the season imho. On her 1st GP she looked like an intern at her first day in a huge company, "what am i doing here with those big folks?".

Evgenia looked her usual unbeatable self, and Anna was totally on fire! Nice to see that, because I was a little worried to hear that her knee was still giving her trouble. It hought Carolina's score was a bit high for what she put out there, but it's really nice to see her back! Maria's continuing to grow on me this season, and she's very deserving of her spot on the Russian team. I am struggling a bit to warm up to Laurine's skating a bit, but I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's because Mae has always been a favorite, and Laurine's taking over as the top French lady. I'm sure with a little more time, I'll come to root for her more.

Okay - getting ready for tomatoes..... I thought Carolina's program would have suited her well (other than the wretched music) three years ago. I think the sport has moved on. I thought her choreography was simple and non-demanding and that there was nothing new or exciting about her skating. I will be surprised if she medals at this competition. Medvedeva looked her usual wonderful self but I dread her freeskate. Hate the music and what's been done with it. Poor taste. Poor Choice. Too soon for those of us that were affected by 9/11.

The skater that I really liked was the French girl (can't remember her name) - not Mayte Berniece.

Evgenia's PCS were totally out of whack...37 for that?

I would probably give her around 33.5 PCS compared to Caro's 35.6 (lower than her peak best, but still great skating/interesting program) and Anna's 34.5.

Also Caro's step sequence only got 0.1 more than Evgenia's arm flail sequence. Evgenia's jumps were the best of the night, though.

Med´s FS has been recieving good scores internationally, and i think there is no reason to worry.

I'm not worried about it - I'm sure she'll do extremely well. I don't like the music!!!!

The skating order and entries list is on the first page of this thread. :) But you are thinking of Laurine Lecavelier. She's really been doing great this season.

I much prefer her FS. It's a heck of a lot tougher to offend my morality than my creative spirit

I worry for Maria actually.
Chances are judges will put her behind Caro just to not have a russian sweep.

Well, Caro should have got UR. I think in FS is maria skate clean there will be more visible difference in technical content, so they would have to really screw Maria then. But if she makes a mistake, and Carolina skates clean, then I think they will give it to Caro.

Maria should have gotten UR on her lutz even more than Caro. She also has been URing all season in the long and mostly getting away with it so idk

Sotskova is consistent. Carolina is not. I don't think judges can help up Carolina in the free. I highly doubt her stamina.

Only watched the top 5 so far and: :love: Anna!!!:love:
This is the best she skated that SP all season, and that means something, because she skated it great already! So much speed, power, passion, presence... I just love everything about that skate. Doing that despite that knee problem still hanging over her is so impressive. I'm just reminded again and again how far she's come, overall and especially from last season, I can't stop being excited about it. Hopefully she also slays in the LP!

Evgenia skated beautifully, and I see why she is in first (though I like Anna more), but I think her difference to Anna is too high. On the other side, I think Maria and Caro are too close to her, especially given their overlooked URs. If we keep Evgenia 78+ and Maria & Caro 72+, IMO, Anna should be around 76. But what else is new...

Caro is still a bit rusty and her jumps looked tight, but I'm really glad to have her back. She just brings something totally different from the other top ladies to the ice, and it's always nice to have diversity. I also love the weird program, way to play to her strengths.
And I agree with those who said Laurine was underscored... she skated really beautifully, and she was up there in difficulty in technical elements. Would have had her around 67 something

Great performances by the top 6.
I love Carolina's new short program, it's probably my favorite this season. I'm happy for her 3rd place, but I doubt she can defend it against Sotskova. Medvedeva and Pogorilaya were both fantastic. Anna's consistency this season is impressive, but Evgenia makes everything look sooo easy, so I agree with the result.
I feel kind of bad to say this, but I'm really tired of Sotskova's programs. :hopelessness: I made it through the short program, but really not looking forward to her free program.
