Cup of China is a Skate America rematch for the following 5 skaters:
Yu-Na Kim, Miki Ando, Yan Liu, Mira Leung and Susanna PÖYKIÖ

I have added their Skate America youtube videos to their entries, and any Skate America articles about them. You will also notice that I have gone through the SA protocols and have reported what elements the judges particularly liked in their performances. As you watch Skate China, you can see whether you agree!

Ice Network has been kind enough to post the ladies' planned element sheets, so if you'd like to check off the elements (and particularly if you'd like to know if that odd jump was supposed to be a flip or lutz), check these out.
http://web.icenetwork.com/documents/2008/11/05/54938/1/gpchn08_Ladies_PlannedProgramEntries.pdf

Again, this field is likely to be dominated by Yu-Na Kim. However, again Miki Ando will be trying to challenge her in a Skate America rematch.

Julia Sebestyen is on a come back trail. Last Europeans she was landing her gorgeous lutz beautifully, both singly and in a 3/2/2 combination. She is aiming to go to what I think is her fourth Olympics.

Sarah Meier is a very steady and skilled competitor and could win either silver or bronze here. She is determined to go to the Grand Prix final. To reach her goal, she needs to nab the bronze. Her Samba SP rocked the house at Finlandia-don't miss it.

This is Ashley Wagner's first 2008/2009 Grand Prix appearance. She looked very strong (and what is more important, much improved) this summer at Liberty. She should still get edge calls, but not UR calls, if she skates well.

This is the season opener for Laura Lepisto. Laura has a gorgeous 3T/3T. Do look for it, especially in the SP.

Yan Liu, the Chinese champion, now has David Wilson choreo. Look for her to skate very well at home. She is an elegant, elegant performer.

And, of course, all these ladies could fall all over the place, as the competitors did at Skate Canada, but I don't think so. This group contains mostly steady, level-headed performers. There could be some gorgeous programs here, so don't take a fridge break. Make up a huge bowl of popcorn with melted butter, fire up icenetwork in the middle of the night, and watch this live.

BTW, for the best popcorn, I urge you to get a thick bottomed pot with a lid and pop some Orville Redenbacher's loose popcorn according to the directions on the jar rather than using microwave bags. Cheaper, easy, (greener for that matter), and indescribly tasty. The popcorn could be the highlight of the evening if the skating goes awry.

To simulate rink ambience, you could sit in a plastic porch chair, turn down the thermostat beforehand, and have someone be mildly rude while asking whether you have brought food from your hotel room. Or you could just get comfortable and enjoy your popcorn and the skating!

So have fun, folks. I'm looking forward to this one myself.
