Enjoyed talking (albeit briefly!) with Jason at the Friends of Figure Skating breakfast. There was a line waiting to talk with him, so I didn't want to monopolize his time too much. His new hair style is so becoming! Second photo (kinda blurry?) was taken when he was being interviewed by Nick McCarvell.

Thanks for the pics, Arriba! Any tidbits from the breakfast? Was he in a good mood?

Speaking of hair, el henry, you let me down. I depend on you for Grant's tweets and I missed this one. https://twitter.com/Grant_Hochstein/status/1184244332456361985

Another little tidbit. Chef Molly Yeh had a clip of Jason in her IG Story over the weekend. :)

I've met Jason several times before and always kid him about how we're neighbors -- two fellow Illinoisans! He was in a very upbeat mood and was happily signing autographs, having his picture taken, doing selfies. He was his usual bubbly self. There weren't all that many skaters at the breakfast due to gala practice, so those who were there were talking to lots and lots of people. Jason had a LONG line waiting to talk to him, etc. People were very considerate though and the line moved quickly. I congratulated him, and he gave me a big hug. Nick McCarvell interviewed Jason, Haven Denney & Brandon Frazier, and Alex Krasnozhan. He actually did an extensive interview with Alex, and it was very interesting. He has a great sense of humor and is very personable.

Like everyone else, I've been waiting with bated breath for his Schindler's List, and the program did not disappoint! I love the sections of music that were chosen, and his performance was breathtaking and soulful. Personally, I don't have a connection to other skaters' Schindler's List, so I am not comparing his version to anyone else's. I am just taking his performance and enjoying it. It was exactly as I thought it would be, the audience wasn't able to hold its applause until he was finished. We had to start clapping while he was still skating! Anyway, it was beautiful, and I look forward to seeing it again. If you were to ask me about his jumps, I couldn't even tell you a thing! I was so focused on the emotion of the program. Loved the understated, subtle costume.

I actually watched a replay of the SL program critically yesterday, stopping the action and reviewing his elements and then looking to see what the judges scored him. I was too riveted during the live performance to be critical. It was a perfect performance, but not a perfect skate. The layout as is has potential for more points and higher GOEs and PCs. He got an edge call on the Lutz combo and a negative GOE, which surprised me, as that combo looked great in performance. He did get all Level 4s as well he should have, but there is some room in the GOEs. I think the PCs suffered from two things. Jason was in 4th going into the final flight and skated 1st. Shades of ordinal days, they left PC room for the 3 skaters who were ahead of him after the short especially Nathan. And there is the no quad factor. Hopefully training will go well in the next month and the NHK ice monster won't eat him this year, but I am looking forward to seeing him skate at NHK. I hope this comp gives him confidence to skate lights out at NHK. He has two beautiful programs this year and they both have room to grow.

Bookseller - thanks for your analysis. I, too, get too involved in the music and presentation and always wonder why he gets marked down in some areas. We keep saying this but he always starts out slow with his programs and he builds on them until at Nats they usually are wondrous. I'm sure Brian and Tracy will "fix" those bobbles.

He said several times that it was comforting to know that he has 4 weeks to get those programs into shape for NHK. When one considers that he'd only trained them full out for about 2 weeks or so, they were amazing skates. Now that the programs have been judged, they will know what he needs to work on.

Yes, he HAD 4 weeks, but he appears from today's IG to still be in Vegas. You never can tell from him, though. I thought it was interesting that he was at a Vegas ice rink wearing skates, maybe yesterday, according to this instagram.. It sure is nice to see him active on social media again, following all the worries about the silence.

LOVE this art work of Jason in my new favorite costume. :) This person is mad talented!

Go NATS! ;)

That fan art is lovely, @Ross74, thanks for flagging it.

Yes our boy is back to multiple posts and I am here for it. I need to make it all about me for two seconds, my most recent trip to Vegas was actually three years ago for a conference at the Red Rock Casino/Rsort/Spa/Etc. Did *I* go to Red Rock canyon? Nope:laugh: But Jason and posters in this FF have. Now I hang my head in shame:shame:

I expect that those photos were done on Monday. He probably is headed back to Toronto today. The family tradition is to add a day to each comp for sightseeing. And while it's super nice to have him post, I expect that silence will be the norm when he gets back into training. I just watched Jason's Short Program on Olympic channel. Despite the popped 3A, which kept him out of the 90s where he should have been, that program was good. Fun to watch and I love the costume. It suits him.

Huh - have you been hanging out with our resident stern taskmaster el henry? :) Seriously, Brian and Tracy will be leaving imminently to escort Zhenya to SCI, so maybe he’s working in LV with Rohene? Or perhaps he’s actually back in TO and is just posting stuff from LV now.

Speaking of his programs (were we?!) I think he has lots of room to improve both of them without adding the 4S: he lost a ton of points on the two popped jumps and got lower GOE than normal on several others. He was a bit gifted on the 3As in the FS, though, which he can’t count on in the future. Still, if he can clean these things up and give somewhat more assured performances, maybe he can finally overcome the curse of NHK. Since Kevin Aymoz will be there and he has already scored quite well this season, Jason probably needs 270+ if he wants to be competitive for a medal. I don’t think it’s out of the question, but it will require some work. Fortunately that’s not a problem for him. :)

Agree! I do think it might be the wisest strategy to wait on the quad until GPF if he makes it or Nats if he needs it. But I recognize that Jason wants to land a quad in competition to stay in the game. It bothers him that he hasn't been able to do that. I think he can get 20 more points out of those programs as is if he executes well. Possibly more. Until his quad becomes consistent, perfecting these programs with triples is a smart way to go. Yuzu is competing with Nathan at this point and will have to unleash his arsenal. Jason's goal right now is to stay clean and execute his elements at his best. He can do that. It's a realistic goal.
