why was his short program different at WTT?

There was no official statement from Shoma or his team stating a reason for the change.

One can only speculate and surmise and look at the results of his StH SP score this season.

Thank you so much to everyone for all the wonderful thoughts, updates, and links provided! What a way to close out the season! It seems that a Shoma who ends up off the podium in a competition comes roaring back in the next competition! Talk about a fighter! So proud of him for fighting and never giving up. We even learned some new stuff about him during this competition: 1) He just MAY look good as a blond! https://www.instagram.com/p/BwMIDZHnp2f/ 2) He inherited some of Gramps' artistic talent 3) He knows how to rock great costumes, even those that make him look like a Greek god 4) He is a humble and supportive teammate 5) Many skaters love to have their photo taken with him! 6) Crowns, ears, wigs -- he looks good in all of them

These several seconds are priceless. Did anyone find any video that's a little bit longer than this one with the ears? https://twitter.com/starfishonice/status/1116632401336160257

I'm sure the rest of you feel as I do. I can't WAIT to find out what he has in store for us next season. This season has been a roller coaster ride but has been worth every second of it...Congrats to all the medalists!

Arriba, your avatar!

Do you think there is a chance he could wear it tomorrow??

I don't quite know what to think about that costume! Like - why was it designed in the first place? Was it for Moonlight Shomata or for STH? Why didn't he use it? I know people joke about how many costumes he has, but I think when you do as many ice shows as he does and almost always are in the competition galas, you need a lot of costumes. That would be awesome if he would wear it tomorrow! And hopefully the audience would break the rules and take a few photos of it!

^^^^ I don't take any jump talks too seriously (especially during the off season, where it is the perfect time for skaters to try and train any jumps they want, and yes that include 4Lz for Shoma) but whoa, JSF saying that they'll campaign for the Base Value of quints to be set by ISU if skaters can submit a footage of them landing it is something I didn't expect coming out from WTT XD

I still think quints are probably above and beyond human ability, but personally it's kind of cool having these conversations sparked after Shoma shows he can land 3A4T and fully rotate it in his competition attempt. Even Ted Barton chimed in! And Takahito Mura also offered some insight on how it might just be possible by considering Shoma's 4T technique.

^I agree, obviously the idea of a quint jump coming to fruition is quite exciting, but I kind of hope people won't overly fixate on that quote haha. I've seen a few people on twitter freaking about the 5T, but all he said was that he may try it out in practice. Sho's layout for next season is already looking pretty demanding with his new combos, I assume he'll probably focus on those moreso than a potential quint.

^^^ My fav part of the whole gala. Kihira/Uno new ice dance champions?

Videos from the gala
Shoma: https://youtu.be/x431OOcFCco
Team Japan: https://youtu.be/PjnbHbxwtng
Finale: https://youtu.be/3BKc82006mc

Oh my God he really tried the 3A4T at the Gala XDDDD Shomaaa! Hahah when he kept doing 3A for STH I instinctively braced myself for the 4T to follow...

The Team Japan group number is cute. There's media footage of when they chose the songs and the first song was picked from 2018 hit songs and Shoma immediately picked "Lemon", no questions asked XD The whole team also seems to know it's his favorite song... because he sings it all the time!

The tango.. much drama, and look at him being dipped. It's nice to see him enjoy himself:

And the Finale... I think I owe Keiji a lot of thanks for letting Shoma borrow his Jojo jacket (moe sleeves <3). The side by side cantilever is so cool!

Heh, do I need Uno in ice dance fantasies? Because I already spent most of the WTT entertaining silly unholy thoughts of ‘Tanaka looks tall & strong, why not pairs?’

But I can’t wait watching gala tonight, it sounds like it has some cool extras :)

I think he HAS featured prominently in other people's ice dance fantasies (Carol Lane? Multiple fans?)... paired with Satoko or Mai or Kanako or now Rika and even Stephane Lambiel. [emoji23] Maybe Marin Honda and Kaori too. It happens when he collaborates or is paired up with another skater, or even takes a picture with another skater who has a matching costume (yes, that's all it takes).

So with this off ice practice footage, I'm guessing the on-ice practice dip was a continuation of the off ice-joke? It's nice to see them all having fun!

I have to confess to not being able to stay awake for ice dance to be honest, so I never watch it. Pls, don’t strip my fan club membership :)
