Dancing on his own in the K & C. Good first outing Shoma!

He wasn't satisfied with his spins.

What a brave man he has become! He deserves the best!!! Still seing him at the K&C without Mihoko is a bittersweet image :sad21:... #teamfluffy forever

I'm not sure about the costume, it fits perfect of course, but I don't think we need any sparkle for Great Spirit

Congrats Shoma for the 2nd place after the short and the successful no-fall SP debut for this season!

Wowwwwww I'm still trying to catch my breath after Grespi, my heart was beating SO FAST (with the Grespi beat of course). I still can't believe it's an actual Short Program now with the full quads, combo, 3A and everything else, especially when I remembered what it looked like when I first watched it.

A lot of homework to be done, and I will leave it to Shoma himself to explain what (as usual, translation by yawning_shoma on Twitter):

A bit about his coaching situation:

Shoma will skate second to last for his FS:

Hello pianistliz, and welcome to Shoma's FF! Enjoy your time here and have fun <3

Actually you're right on time, because Shoma's ISU official profile just got updated for this 2019/2020 season, as updated by dramasocks above:

Like his official profile said, Shoma's competitive programs this year are both new! He's using "Great Spirit" by Armin Van Buuren as his SP, choreographed by Shae-Lynn Bourne. David Wilson choreographed his FS, and it's to "Dancing On My Own" as performed by Calum Scott with additional music track arranged by Karl Hugo titled "Your Last Kiss".

Technically "Great Spirit" isn't a new program for Shoma, he's been using it as his exhibition program last season and worked with Shae-Lynn to turn it into a competitive SP. Shoma said during the off-season that he's not planning to change his SP layout from last season, but his planned layout for Finlandia Trophy hasn't been published yet.

As for his FS, he has a new layout compared to last season at the moment (and is the same layout he's practicing at Finlandia), you can see them when Shoma performed his FS at Japan Open here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MXLNFe8bfY&t=291s

I hope it helps! Can't believe it's less than 6 hours until the SP starts.

Thank you so much! What are everyone's favorite Shoma performances? I wanna watch like his best handful and get a better sense of his style and what he's done.

Really into his SP his season.

Congrats to Shomajesty, pretty good first Grespi! It was fire and really well received, I loved when the audience started to clap on the beat. Still needs quite a bit of work as Shoma said, lost some levels too but I can't put into words how excited I am to see this SP over the season, it's SO different from what we've seen in figure skating until now and I just love it :luv17: I like the costume too.

Here are some yt links, hope they won't be taken down:

Hello! Welcome to the fanfest! :)

My personal favourites are Legends (SP) - and Loco (FS)!

His Olympic performances of Turandot and See You Again are also well worth watching, just for starters ;) One of his earliest performances I watched was of See You Again at Skate America!

Really excited to watch Shoma's programs tomorrow! I haven't followed him consistently over the years (really got into figure skating this year actually); are his programs new, and are his layouts similar to last year's?

Hi pianistliz. You're beginning to follow Shomajesty (also known as Shomachka, Shoma kun, Shomita, the Prince, Sho, etc. etc.) at a really fun time. This season is so different from any of his other seasons with using different choreographers for his programs and having no coach...My all-time favorite program of his was at the Four Continents competition in 2017 -- his short program, Ladies in Lavender. It was not a perfect program by any means, but the energy and passion he put into it were terrific. He also did the most beautiful 3A. So many videos have been taken down that the last time I tried to find it, I only found a video taken by a fan.

Hope you enjoy following Shoma. He is a really special skater and a beautiful person inside and outside.

So happy that he is using Great Spirits as SP this season! I feel like sometimes an EX gets lost in the shuffle, and with this program he is sure to get even more fans! I like how he definitely kept the energy up throughout an obviously intense run, and going right back in even when the landing on the jumps are less than perfect.

Step sequence is of course amazing. Shae-Lynn thank you!

First one out of the way :)

Amazing program. Great Spirit as an exhibition program isn't top 3 imo but I enjoy it more as a SP.

Really into his SP his season.

Hi pianistliz! Here are some of my favorite performances (sorry there are so many):

2014 Japanese Nationals FS Don Juan DeMarco There's something so lively about the way Shoma skates, and there is careful attention given to the way he does something. Like his movement seems so unforced--almost spontaneous, yet so thoughtful.

2015 TEB SP Legends I really like Shoma doing uptempo music (this is similar to his current SP Great Spirit in that it's also uptempo) He's a really powerful and dynamic skater, and that gets highlighted differently with this type of music.

2016 GPF FS Loco His musicality shines through in like all of his programs, but Loco really stands out in my mind. He is so great at capturing the mood of the music he's skating to and just embodies it so well. I think this program also does a good job at showing the, for lack of a better word, earnestness in his skating? Like it never seems like he's trying to portray a character, but rather conveying in his skating what the music is doing.

2017 Worlds SP Ladies in Lavender LiL is one of my faaaavorite programs ever. The way he moves in this program is so poetic, and to me, it feels like the way cursive handwriting looks (or any beautiful handwriting) The StSq highlights that quality so, so well. The entrance into the final spin is so unique.

2017 WTT FS Loco I really like his performance of Loco from the GPF, but for me it's really cool to see how the program has developed, especially interpretation wise, in just a couple months. This isn't totally related, but there's a really cute GIF set out there from this performance of his former coach Mihoko Higuchi trying to communicate with him mid-performance, and you can see him very subtly shake his head XD It's adorable

WTT 2017 Exhibition This Town I love this program! The song is really sweet, I like David Wilson's work with Shoma, and I think this was the first time they worked together? (Please let me know if that is not correct!) This program overall is just...so soft and gentle. The butterfly move on the word "butterfly" in the lyrics :)

2018 Olympic FS Turandot This is very grand and big music, but it feels like he's the one guiding the music. (Also this costume is so beautiful)

2019 4CC FS Moonlight Sonata Another of the many examples of great musicality and conveying the mood of the music! This is also an example of like what a wholehearted skater he is, and that he is fully invested and so present in every single performance.

2019 Worlds Exhibition See You Again I'm so glad he's been using See You Again for so long. It's a really beautiful program that has matured along with him, and (to me) continues to be very impactful.

And I absolutely agree with what other people above have listed as their favorite performances :) Happy watching!

Shoma skates second to the last in the free skate -- 19:17 Finland time. Can't wait to see his Dancing On My Own program again! Good luck to everyone!

There was a short news clip from Nagoya TV channel's "Del Sat" (deresata) this morning:

Content:
Clip 1: apart from some review cuts (LOVE the photo shooting part for calendar), there was longer part of Shae-lynn Bourne teaching GS choreo at Chukyo U
Clip 2: continuation of clip 1 and short review of SP Finlandia Trophy and interview (rough translation, comments are welcome):
Shoma: "Once I am in competition, I show my emotion that want to get it together which is an issue for this season"
Shoma: "Program is not consist of jumps only, (in FS) I want to show 100% of what I can do now."

I just LOVE both Shoma's programs this season and can't wait for him to get more mileage on them... I think we might see some true masterpieces later on in the season!

Btw, this Grespi costume to me is PERFECTION. Doesn't it feel like it's the mystery of the Great Spirit right there in the design? The orange smoke or fire, the shapeshifting disappearing lines, a little sparkle but not too much... The previous one to me was too "superman", this one is gorgeous and so fitting! Also love the DOMO one in all its simplicity. No question Shoma has the best outfits of them all!
