An interview from Shoma back in Finland:
http://www.blossomonice.com/shoma-uno-interview/

Oh, our favorite, Google translate. I especially like that he plans to jump a triple axel-quadruple sheepskin coat. Sounds complicated!!! :laugh2: The rest of it pretty much makes sense. Very interesting. Thx for posting.

Lest we forget -- Shoma's last Rostelecom appearance. Notice the pink coat. Ahhhh...

Just in case you haven't known yet: in Russian a 'toeloop' is exactly the same word as a 'tułup' (read: toowoop) what means a 'sheepskin coat'. It confused me for a long time .

It won't be easy to come back from where he was just 2 weeks ago and everything may still go wrong in the competition itself, but everything we see right now -- this clean run-through, focused Shoma, his smiles and laughs, his interactions with Stephane, the fact that Stephane will be sitting with him in the K&C, and just this air of confidence that he exuberates -- is so, so reassuring. This is certainly a happy day in the Shospatal. Extra pills for everyone.

It reads exactly the same, unless you actually say “toe” as the first syllable in totem. Russians pronounce it as ‘too’ and ‘loop’, which coincide precisely with the word of the Turkic origin for the roughly made very long, usually floor length coat that’s a survival necessity during the winter for those who worked outdoors (I.e. horse-drawn coach drivers or night watchers). They also spell the jump name the same way, so the translating software takes it out of context. Once they become more sophisticated, it will adapt to the context, and then woe to someone who wants to mention a sheepskin coat worn during a figure-skating event.

But wow! So happy Uno will have Lambiel in the K&C

Wish I could wake up everyday to all this exciting content and cool photos! Makes my day. Looks like a beautiful day to be in Moscow too -- nice and sunny. Just saw a photo someone posted of the gorgeous St. Basil.

I don't think this was posted yet. Looks like Stephane is "dancing on his own" at the boards! Gotta love him, and I love the comfort level he and Shoma have after working together for so many years on program "fine tuning"...Wonder how he would feel about wearing a pink coat?! :scard8:

Great to see Kazuki and Sho hanging out together.

I'm happy Stephane was able to help Shoma and the France GP is now behind him. Really cool seeing him with Shoma in practice and I'm 100% for this being a permanent new partnership if Shoma chooses Stephane.

Clean FS run through too! [emoji123]

Thank you ice tug and lariko for your explanations. I knew there had to be some logical reasoning behind that! Kind of like why is Keiji called Detective? Or Masama Uno, Shingo Honda, and Tomoko Miyahara.

Yawning Shoma translated Shoma's interview after practice.

Yawning_shoma always does great translations and their work is very trust-worthy and admiring. However, this time around, the writer tried to tweet as accurately as possible with each of the words and phrases used by the athletes (on request by Japanese fans), instead of summarizing the whole thing to make it easier to read. Some parts of it are way too context-heavy and confusing for non-natives, I'm afraid. I don't usually do top skaters' translations, but let me clarify some of those to avoid confusion:

Please refer to yawning_shoma's translations, very accurate.

Re: Mr. Lambiel, "It's not that I have decided on a coach yet. But it's Stephane's kindness/courtesy (to sit with me at K&C for me). It's about my feelings, like, including (my concerns like) not being able to deliver a good performance in competition (without a coach) and various other things, and so, it's such a (precious) opportunity (to have him stand there for me), and so (I wouldn't blow it and) I'll have him stand there for me this time (at Rostelecom Cup). Note: Shoma is using lots of honorifics there to show his appreciation and respect to Stephane Lambiel, I can't translate the level of honorifics appropriately in English.

Re: a sense of ease by having a coach, "In Switzerland too, sometimes I wasn't doing too well, but you know, (it was different.) when I'm all on my own in such times, I would end up thinking too much. (But I wasn't alone and it was different.) He's truly nice. Stephane is, really. So, what I want from a coach is not their technical expertise, but instead something like feelings (mental stuff)." <continued to the following tweet>

"I have always felt that I want to train under someone I feel grateful to, or more like, someone I feel like I want to show a great performance for. So, I'm guessing (the reason why I decided to have him stand there for me at this competition was that) he is someone who is very close to that."

Re: him communicating in English (with Stephane), "No, no, I really don't understand (English). [laugh] Before (my run-through for) free, he said something to me real fast (in English), and I heard him saying "spin blah-blah-blah" thingy. I just figured he meant that I could skip spins. So, I said 'Okay' and that was it. I just hear some words I know and then I (try to) guess what he means, something like that." <end of session>

(BTW, I translated his comedy skit with Tomono (interviewing each other for jokes during their sessions) here in Tomono's FF thread(second part), if you're interested.)

Here's my very very sincere wish for Shoma this weekend! :hap10::hap10::hap10:

Didn't someone say in English, 'It's always the darkest before the dawn'? Together let's wait for the Rising Sho/Sun. :ghug::)

Tsurara, thank you so, so much for your kindness in sharing your translation of Shoma's interview here! I have read many of your translations in Kazuki's FF, and really admire your work as well :luv17:

I'm glad Shoma and Kazuki seems to be in good spirits  Wishing the best for them, IDF was a lonely event for Shoma so it's great to have him goofing off with Kazuki on Olympics Channel's IG story:

Thank you so much for your precious translations! You definitely have a gift. I appreciate reading Sho and Kazuki's antics! I'm so glad they are there together! They seem to get along really well.

I know you are a big fan of Kazuki, and I remember mentioning in his FF that I talked to him while in the food court at the Sk Amer hotel. He is such a cutie and so nice! Let's hope they both do really well this weekend!

I'm so glad Stephane could indeed help Shoma with his confidence and I'm looking forward to their interactions this weekend.

Here's a few: https://www.instagram.com/p/B416X-gJTBK/?igshid=15l53csfqt231

I totally wouldn't mind if he goes back to Switzerland afterwards but for now I'm just amazed at how quickly Shoma pulled himself back together after IDF. So happy he seems to be in a good state of mind.

Also, some more Kazuki x Shoma: https://www.instagram.com/p/B412b-OpNGf/?igshid=1te6ql8qaijy5

I probably won't be able to watch anything until Monday so I already want to wish him good luck for the whole competition. :ghug:
