Vincent Zhou to Attend Brown University, Details New Skating Situation

He still plans to work with longtime coaches Tammy Gambill and Tom Zakrajsek, but while at Brown, will primarily train alone.

Told ya so, sheetz!

“I will likely do a senior B [lower-level event] before my Grand Prix, and maybe a summer international soon,” he said. “Back-to-back Grand Prixs are more than I could have asked for, since separate ones would not mix well with academic catch-up and jetlag. It’s like combining errands into one trip.”

Glad the scheduling of CoC and Rostelecom, though demanding, is actually a good one for Vincent.

“Under challenge is when the best rewards come out, so I’m looking forward to the growth and opportunity that is sure to come out of it all,” Zhou said. “This season will be about self-discovery.”

Way to go, Vincent! You have our support and best wishes!

Japan Times article by Jack Gallagher

Art of the deal: How Kinoshita Group came to sponsor Vincent Zhou

"The nexus of the pact was the relationship that coach Mie Hamada maintains with both the company and Zhou. The legendary mentor of four-time national champion Satoko Miyahara, last season’s Grand Prix Final champion Rika Kihira, and many others over the years, Hamada’s compassion for her charges is well known. It was because of her that the watershed agreement was consummated."

“She doesn’t just help with the on-ice stuff, she is also very caring about the off-ice stuff and making sure the skaters have the conditions they need to train at their best.”

Coach Hamada is a real blessing! Can't thank her enough for taking Vincent under her wings!

We'll see how the season transpires.

my gosh, the NBC article has been changed.
Lot of details has been deleted and the tone is more vague and tamed.
@Zenchio63 has copy and pasted some part that's been deleted in the original NBC article.

He hasn’t been specific, but Zhou still plans to work with his other coaches, too. But while at Brown, he will primarily train alone.

Nathan has Shae visit him at Yale on occasion so she could easily take a detour to Brown/Boston.

Good to know about Shae Lynn. Thanks for sharing the info.

Hmm.. I had the article open in one of my devices and did not reload the page, so I have the original content. There are no other changes other than the sentence quoted above by sheetz. That does not sound too different, other than the addition of "He hasn't been specific". No other info/details have been deleted, as you imply.

Wonder if the "changes" are due to the writer not doing due diligence with her interpreted info on first publication or whether things have truly changed since her initial "interview/communication" with Vincent? In any case, sheetz, things can always change but I still believe Vincent did not plan to completely cut Tom out of his coaching team, as of the time when news of Hamada becoming official this season was announced. "Not being specific" may simply mean that details have not been worked out and there is also a chance of Tom moving to LA, as rumored. Doesn't mean Vincent already made up his mind to depart ways with Tom.

Just chiming in to thank Zenchio63 for keeping the Vincent thread so active!

You’re very welcome, formersk8ter! Lots of info lately with new coaching situation, school, sponsorship, DOI.

We have The ICE to look forward to near the end of the month:

July 27-28 in Osaka
July 30-31 & Aug. 1 in Niigata
Aug. 3-4 in Nagoya

Wishing Vincent a continued enjoyable & productive time in his summer stay in Japan. Hope the extended training with coach Hamada will solidify his improvements in jump technique as well as skating skills. And maybe some of Satoko’s performance magic dust will rub off on his new programs.
