Considering all the headcases with the US Men and Nathan being able to land quads which very few top US men can do at the moment if he goes out and nails his jumps he will put the pressure on the older guys to skate well even if his PCS won't be as high.

1. Denis Ten (More consistent with his technical elements.)
2. Yuzuru Hanyu (Hot and cold with his big elements.)
3. Patrick Chan (It seems that his technical difficulty will be the same as what he had at the Olympics.)
4. Javier Fernandez (Not consistent with his technical elements.)
5. Maxim Kovtun (If he overcome that mental pressure he experienced at the last WC.)
6. Jason Brown (No quad but great performance.)
7. Sergei Voronov (If he keep up the good work as last season.)
8. Shoma Uno (Rising talent.)
9. Han Yan (Technically strong, but not consistent.)
10. Nam Nguyen (Consistent with his technical elements.)
...And I won't be shocked if Boyang Jin get into top ten.

1. Yuzuru Hanyu - every title is basically his to lose at this point. As we saw at Worlds last year, he can do a really good job at losing them.
2. Javier Fernandez - how will he deal with the pressure of being the reigning World Champion? Focus is always an issue. He has the talent to win, as we know.
3. Denis Ten - will he find his consistency? He's a gold medal threat with clean programs.
4. Patrick Chan - I have my doubts. Wonderful quality, but the axel makes me nervous. Will he still have a PCS cushion in the age of Hanyuflation?
5. Jason Brown - the clear leader of the 2nd tier to me. Will he get the quad? The performance quality will carry him to a good showing in Boston.
6. Shoma Uno - he has "it." How will he handle the pressure of competing at this level?
7. Nam Nguyen - the jumps and consistency are there. Will refinement be a hurdle?
8. Adian Pitkeev - just a gut feeling that this is his year to become Russia's leading man. He looked great at the test skates. Consistency is an issue.
9. Maxim Kovtun - seems like a placeholder until a better Russian man (Pitkeev) comes along. Rarely rotates all of his planned content. Performance quality is not there.
10. Yan Han - he has the talent. Is this the year he learns how to deliver?

Chenry1234, welcome to Golden Skate posting; good to see another screen name Henry here ( even if I would align the men slightly differently ;)

good points!
I agree with your thoughts on Adian too. So far, he has the best programs out of the Russian men IMO but yes, it is his need of consistency that will propel him over Maxim and Sergei. Zueva has done an amazing job of creating his programs.

I'm a bit curious as to why you say this? In the Hanyu vs Chan thread, a poster kindly complied the rates of success for various jumps and GOE earned and Denis was at not at the top of any of the lists. --Not that he is not brilliant on occasion ( his world Medals attest to that) but he is certainly not consistent technically.

yup newbie, i sort of agree with you… but let's think about this….

Denis tends to peak at worlds… or O games…. and does badly in GP season… so sometimes statistics will not portray every factor… perhaps Denis's consistency is one of the strongest in big events???? we would need new stats :)

This would be a good thing to do...Maybe I'll give it a go.

I'm a big fan of Adian, but he hasn't even demonstrated a consistent quad yet, hasn't won any significant medals as a senior yet, so I find it really hard to believe he's going to catapult into the "leading man" position this season unless everyone thinks Sergei and Max are both just going to bomb left and right everywhere. Sergei was very consistent last season, apart from Worlds where he was injured. There are other Russian men to consider as well. Yes Adian is extremely talented, but I don't like overhyping young skaters...I think too much pressure, too early played a big part in Kovtun and Artur Gachinski's headcasing issues.

Chan scored TES 36.7, PCS 47.41 for SP last weekend.

This weekend he shall compete with the world champ Javi, who I believe has a higher tech content especially in LP than Chan. Javi also top the PCS LP at world. I wonder how will they score

Super cool stats. Let's see, Denis' total TES from these 2 Worlds events is 266.36 Yuzu's is 263.51, Javi's total TES 267.23...but this is not counting Denis' Yuzu and Javi's other Worlds outings...both of which Yuzu did rather better and Denis did not...so I may need to get a bigger sample and make an Average TES for all these guys based on say their latest 4 Worlds outings? would that be more rounded?
