in my opinion at this point there are 6 team in a real contention to medals - two American teams, Canadians, Italians, Russians and Frenchies, but for gold I'd say (at least now, but we do know how ice is slippery and the magic things like draw and levels...) that we have 4 teams: Shibutanis, Papadakis/Cizeron, Weaver/Poje and Chock/Bates.

For me, two things will be crutial: what will be scores' difference between these teams after SD AND how the draw for FD will be looking alike. Ofc there goes judges panel, tech specialist, day dispositions of team...

I think it will be between P/C and W/P for gold C/L S/S and C/B will battle for bronze.

I would like P/C to work on their SD as I think they need to be in top three SDS .At this stage IMO W/P SD is the best.C/L and S/S could beat them in SD .C/B are definately the dark horses I wouldn't write them off .
If P/C can up their SD score they have WC in the bag!

I watched and rewatched P/C FS. :drama: I like it even more than Mozart FS. It's the first time I think the hole left by the super teams was somehow filled. (even though with V/M and D/W we also had a rivalry)
Stay away from injuries, Gabi and Guillaume! The future looks sooo good.

So impressed by P/C! I can watch their programs over and over again! They have such a magic!!! I just want them to stay away from injuries and give us the opportunity to enjoy their art a few more years at least:)

I'm going to make one prediction now: I will bet that the largest audience reaction will be for the Shibs' FD. And not just because it will for an American team in an American rink.
You heard it here first!
;)
totally:bow:
It would be magical if they somehow manage to win the whole thing :yahoo:(which I doubt)

Saw FD last night via Universal HD... Ben Agosto did the commentary and he was wonderful. During GP/GC's remarkable emotional FD he kept comments brief low key informative soft voice yet he was clearly moved... Best commentator yet.. Right up there with the British EuroSport guys.

Well if this is the case I can see W/P finishing 5th or even 6th. The French will win and another Euro team will also be in the medals - so that leaves 1 NA spot and since worlds are in the US that means it will go to a US team. And I think that team will be C/B. I think by giving the US title to S/S they knew this would put a fire under C/B and they would step things up a notch to get ahead of S/S again. And that also puts S/S up a notch in the international judges minds.

Ok, jumping back on the P/C train. Not that I'd ever really left it  It's just that, after seeing a video of their performance at French Nationals and then here, I felt it was somewhat similar to last year's program in tone. Of course, no one can deny their skating quality and that's that, but I was looking for something more, so I thought "that's good, but maybe a tad repetitive".

Now, after multiple rewatches, I'm converted once more  I really do see this dance as something quite different now, not in the least similar to last year's. The elements are gorgeous and, in a word that describes them best, effortless.

So yeah, I think so far my favourite program of theirs is still Woodkid (somewhat ironically, as it got them nowhere  ), but this program is also really growing on me :luv17:

Not to pick on you Sackie, but I'm tired of folks saying that the Shibutanis were GIVEN the title. They earned the title with two really awesome performances. The Shibutanis have been building all season long with two great programs.

Also that's pretty demeaning to Chock and Bates if USFSA felt they needed to make them lose on purpose to get motivation.

I would say that PC are thefaves heading into world and life being life and worlds being in US hat at least an Amerian eam will be on the podium if not at the top. If two podium then w and p for sure will not get a medal. the team who could do well or bomb the most before S and K would be the itallians - c and l. Hard to say where they fit and if the judges would allow a Russian team to pass them along with W and P; the Americans and one if not two Russians. It won't happen but I could see C ad L on top of the podium (actually that is possible) but if everyone skated their best and C and L not then they could lose to the French, three Americans, two Canadians and even their compatriots. B and S really need to aim for fourth or maybe fifth to give Russia a chance at 3 spots. if they end up the unlucky team in 6th s and k better have beat them or not screwed up too much.

W&P will medal they are gp final champions after all. just because worlds are in US doesn`t mean an american team has to be on the podium. the worst W&P can get this year is silver.

I agree. About the Shibs. They were simply better.

Chock/Bates are yet to skate two clean dances this season. People say 4CC will answer a lot of questions. Well, I think it will not. Whatever the outcome of 4CC, I don't see WC at US without at least one gold medal for US team. So it's either ladies or ice dance. My bets are on dance. And yes, I'm talking about politics here. So shoot me :)

Nonsense. W/P are as vulnerable as American teams now. And as for GPF champions, remember last season? They got only bronze at Worlds after their win at GPF. And I disagree with everyone who thinks they were robbed at WC.

Bravo to the European ice dancers! think 4 Continents will be very interesting with the North American ice dancers. Presuming Weaver/Poje, Chock/Bates and the Shibs compete at 4 CCs, their scores, not so much their placements, will be interesting. Papdadakis/Cizeron received 115 yesterday on their FD. Presuming this was a true ISU panel with no national leanings (I know, stop laughing) - but different from a National championship where there definitely are inflations, this may be a tough score to beat. Cappellinni/Lanotte's scores are reachable by the 3 NA's but P/C may be the ones to carry the title again.

Correction, the French team received 111.97 for their FD and it's a score that's within grasp of the other top world medalists. The winning FD of the French is so reminiscent of their beautiful FD last year - even their SD this year almost looked like it but will the WC panel be still drawn to their winning FD? That remains to be seen. This year they will have two somewhat similar choreographic flavor to judge ... evaluate [the Shibs' and PC's] so I think that will be very interesting. Anyway, the 4CC will be very telling as to who of the North American teams will make it to the WC podium.

Thank you for the correction! Actually this makes me happy as 111, almost 112 is more reachable to the others then the 115. P/C were incredible yesterday. I agree that their FD has a similar feel to their FD of last year but a more modern twist. Still, they understand who they are and demonstrate that style beautifully. I am sentimental to Weaver/Poje and the Shibs but those 3 couples on the podium would make me happy.
