I actually think S/S's ice coverage is getting smaller now. It seems they rarely reach the ends of rink. And I don't think they're fast whether for the pace of music or not. I do think they're more free now. Usually they are so straight backed.

I really love the Shibs free dance- I don't think I've ever seen them skate so freely, especially in the beginning. I think there is a lot of room for this program to grow. It seemed like it slowed a little at the end but the goal is not to peak now, it's to keep working and building towards the finish. The instrumental part was beautiful.

Also- B/S's score was a joke, the PCS should not be that close to the Shibs.

Yeah, I really wish they could crack whatever seems to be holding them back because they deserve to be taken seriously by the judges.

Surprised at the G/P love here. They always have cool concept. But can you win on concept alone? They've never had good lines, and there's always the highly visible slow-down at the end of elements. Here they almost came to a stop during a lift.

Shibs...so bland. I really hope Madi/Zach beat them this season.

i agree. they do not have good postures in my opinion. and they look the same to me every year, innovative concept but poor lines. their scores were fair

. I wonder if Ms Gilles appreciates how many other skaters have been unhappy with the scores they have received. Her partner has wonderful skating skills but she is not in his league yet. Did she think they were going to beat the Shibs? Best not to be a sore loser in public

Not the Shibs obviously. More like Step/Bukin, but I think 69 in the SD and 102 in the FD got to her more than anything. These are not great marks compared to what they are used to.

I agree, this is not classy. I suppose she didn't expect to finish off the podium, which I also did not expect :D

... but in fact she has beaten the Shibs before at 2015 Nepela Trophy.

She could have done worse. Let's just say she understands why most despise coming to Russia. All being said, I think their Hitchcock program is more effective than this one to be honest.

B/S are not in a good place, that program is rather bland, while they have better skills than S/B, the latter seems to draw you in more. Also, S/B's program is filled with some intricate details and their packaging is impressive. On the other hand the music that they use, S/B that is, is grating and cloying.

As for the winners, officially I must say I'm disappointed. That dance is like a tired retread of the stuff they've done over the last three years and I'm rather underwhelmed by it to be honest. I wonder if that is what C/L's program is going to be like considering their music choices.

Going back to my original projections H/D or Ch/Ba could pull off the bronze if they've truly mastered their twizzles, or that third spot could be a complete surprise. Nobody so far can even come near to P/C or V/M. IMHO, of course.

Let's remember that when the Shibs introduced the Fix You program at Nepala Trophy and had a terrible placement -- with Gilles/Poirier as the winners -- i don't think anyone would have imagined they would end up in silver at Worlds and beating everyone but Papadakis/Cizeron.

I think the Shibs are far more shrewd then fans give them credit for. They have confidence in themselves and their material. I think that counts for a lot when it's time for the big stage. Let's see what things look like in February.

But three straight years of more or less the same program, seriously? I think that's asking way, way too much. I just don't see the judges being that patient with them this year.

I think B/S are actually in a good place. This doesn't equal Anna Karenina (because that was their best program ever), but it's an upgrade from last year with the storytelling. As for their SD, I saw some really good points the obvious one being the pattern. Like V/M or C/L, being older than the rest of the field shows if you've competed with compulsories, and it showed here.

Next week is Skate Canada, H/D will compete and then China where we'll see Ch/Ba. We cannot say anything until both teams has competed in their first GP (especially C/B since we haven't seen them).

It's probably C/L last season... their FD is probably going to feature their best strength : having fun on the ice

oh yes, we all know that judges love variety and punish repeated programs or repeated styles, I think in the last 4 years they have made that very clear :rolleye:
