On paper Lajoie/Lagha have a great chance at winning here. But for some reason I don't think that will happen and they will probably end up 3rd behind a USA and RUS team. Hope I am wrong but....

Depends on what paper you are looking at. Polischuk & Vakhnov were ranked higher on the JGP last season. As far as I can recall, Lajoie & Lagha have not skated head-to-head with either of these teams since placing behind Lewis & Bye head-to-head at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games. Polischuk & Vakhnov and Lewis & Bye have met at least twice (JGP in Colorado Springs in 2015 and Lake Placid this summer). Both times Lewis & Bye defeated P&V in the short and P&V defeated L&B in the free. L&L probably came the farthest last season, but they had the farthest to come. L&B and P&V had far more depth at home, no sudden number one ranking for their countries, and no post season in which to prove themselves.

It's a great head-to-head, IMO. Precisely because any "paper" you look at doesn't give a clear picture of who the favorites are.

I agree, I don't think that on paper, Lajoie & Lagha have a "great chance" of winning at all.
AFAIK they've never medalled at the JGP when Polischuk & Vakhnov medalled in both their JGP last year. Polischuk & Vakhnov and Lewis & Bye are not some random RUS and US teams, they've never made it past the JGP series because they faced a LOT of depth at home.

L&L have the highest summer comp marks, but that was at Quebec, where the scores are notoriously inflated.

hey chuckm... the scores for ALL summer comps are notoriously inflated... just saying... no need to go there...

my comment on this : some teams may have improved more than others during the off season... especially with juniors... we can see a big difference. Lajoie and Lagha are quite young and have junior eligibility for a while... let's see how they develop and transition to senior...

how many junior champions get stale in their progression and never hit hard on the senior scene or simply split/retire?

Let's not put too much pressure on these kids :)

Lake Placid International (the ISU event) had an all-international panel of judges, and that was the summer event for Polishchuk / Vakhnov and Lewis/Bye. Quebec's panel was mostly Canadian judges.

I was not looking at summer scores! And as someone else pointed out - they all are inflated!
I was looking at their Personal Best scores and L/L are at 148.26, P/V at 144.76 and L/B at 138.22!
That is what I meant by on paper!

Yes, it's legitimate criteria & a legitimate way to look at these teams. (And L&L had a great end of their season last year, no question). But L&L earned that score at Junior Worlds, where neither of the other teams competed. L&L did not have the highest PB score among these three teams prior to Junior Worlds. (And had L&L needed to qualify for Junior Worlds ahead of the same top three teams at U.S. Nationals or Russian Junior Nationals, there is quite a bit of evidence that says that L&L would not have been at Junior Worlds either). So this particular paper is comparing scores earned with early fall programs versus a score earned with a program performed this past March.

We will get a much better idea of where these three teams fall relative to each other here in Brisbane. Should be fun. This is what head-to-heads are for.

the fact that a panel is mostly composed of Canadian judges judging mostly Canadian teams doesn't mean that the scores will be higher... it could be tough love too... and some international judges are more lenient than others... and some Canadian judges are very strict...

anyways.. we will see what THIS panel thinks.. and that's more important ...

All the ISU bios were updated, so all the music choices are available. I have put them all in the OP.
