I understand this on some level. However I tried to put myself in her shoes and say "What if my best friend and/or the person I was in love with was accused of doing these terrible things?" I'd have a very hard time believing it.I have finished Gracie's audio book and am impressed by her openness, the courage to reveal herself and to ruthlessly judge those close to her but also herself.
If it wasn't for chapter 17... sorry but I can't get over it. It's one thing that she dedicates Chapter 17 to John Coughlin, his favorite number, she seems to owe him a lot and that needs to be respected and she lost him as a friend tragically. But Gracie's 'if' sentence, about what Ashley Wagner, among others, is accusing him, leaves me with more than just mixed feelings... with this sentence, perhaps unintentionally, she questions the credibility of his victims. Since she is also a rape victim and knows how important it is to believe victims, I would have liked her to deal with this topic differently.
Nevertheless, I wish Gracie only the best, lots of love and peace with herself and the skating world.
I was watching for that to be mentioned, and I didn't see it, either.Speaking of Ashley Wagner, wasn’t her direct intervention with usfsa at Champs Camp a major reason why Gracie was sent to rehab? Maybe i was reading too quickly, but i didn’t see any mention of that.
A film….great idea!!!I just finished it today. I took it slowly; I've had a number the same challenges as Gracie. I found it to revelation. It was so interesting being a fly on the wall of her mind rewatching some of her programs. One of the things that impressed me most was the degree to which Gracie is literary. It wasn't as consisant as, say, a novel but she really has a knack for it. And she can be really really funny. I'm happy that the book is selling well and being so well received. This should give her a nice piece of change in the bank to cushion her and allow her to continue to do whatever she feels drawn to without having to be concerned with going broke. And maybe she can find a larger living space. Onward, Gracie.
I was also wondering whether or not this would make a good film. It wouldn't be the naturally darkly comic trainwreck of a story as I Tonya. Unless it was fictionalized but why bother? The actually story is compelling enough. If I were writing the script, I would limit the time frame to Nats and World's where she finished 4th. Maybe add flashbacks. I do hope she gets a film sale with front end sharing of the profits.
Would be very very cautious because of the Coughlin thing. I'm not sure Hollywood have any writers who could balance Gracie's view of him carefully enough not to provoke a storm which would not do her emotional health any good at all. I'm sorry if that seems harsh, but we've all seen the backlash when a film or TV series handles abuse badly...I was also wondering whether or not this would make a good film.
I’ve not seen a film or even a tv show based on a book that included everything from said book. It’s not a short book so condensing it down to 2-3 hours would require leaving large parts out (I think. I’m not a script writer)Would be very very cautious because of the Coughlin thing. That part could be left out without compromising the arch of the story or the overall thesis. Issue resolved (as far as the film goes).Would be very very cautious because of the Coughlin thing. That's why I said 'would be very very cautious'. Which Hollywood is not good at.I’ve not seen a film or even a tv show based on a book that included everything from said book. Do tell!I will admit, I have spent a distracting amount of time mentally 'casting' some of the main characters...
I can say I have not yet chosen 'Gracie' because she will have to be very young and so pretty...Do tell!
