Whats this thing under the skates?

They look like gel sleeves. They just provide cushioning around the ankles and top of the boot.

I use those because the top of the metal stay that keeps the hooks from tearing out, rubs against my legs and then I get blood in my boots.

I also wear them. My first skates used to dig into the backs of my legs so badly that they left scars. Then someone told me about Bunga Pads. I now use them religiously. I didn't even try to wear my next pair of skates without them.

Yes, those are gel ankle sleeves. The most popular brands in the U.S. are Bunga and Silippos. My ankles would die without them! I wear mine under my tights, though, so they aren't as visible.

I sweat if I wear them against my skin, and they shift. I wear them outside my tights. You're technically supposed to wear them between to layers of tights, according to my coach, but I only do that if I'm in a competition and wearing my footless tights over regular tights.
