For the second time I overslept and missed Marin's performance again, but I am VERY happy she gave an almost perfect performance and took second! Congratz to all Japanese girls! (P.S. I wish Marin could bring me to her manicure shop)

I do think scores were too generous both for ladies and men, they were very lenient with urs and edge issues this time. I am very happy for Kaori, her jumps are mind blowing and she improved so much this year. Great come back from Marin, she was under huge pressure and she delivered, the score was too much but in a world where Zagitova gets 126 it is fair score for Marin so... Impressed with Yelim's jumps. I think giving bronze to Mako was fair, unlike last JGP were Rika was definitely robbed of gold. I wish Mako had better charisma and not scary axel technique (typical Yamada student , I am still puzzled how Yamada managed not to destroy her lutz) Sofia was robbed in pcs but they didn't call her combo ur what was obvious and her lutz should have got at least !. So personally I don't have any issues with placements.
The scoring is getting pretty scary though, I would wait for first senior gp but what I observe judges don't care about GOE's and PCS at all, throwing like there is no other day. I am afraid olympic year it will get absolutely out of control.

wow, Japan in very good hands with the ladies field....three strong girls, kaori, marin, mako......, the US will have to wait a while longer and remain in the drought :(
There is also Rika Kihira who was second at the previous JGP and has the potential for scoring higher if she skates clean. And don't forget Yuna Shiraiwa who is yet to skate. She was good last season, although eneded up fifth at the JGPF and fourth at Worlds. She may have improved too.

The scores are getting so easy. By 2018 all skaters will get at least 5 and up to 30 of 10s in their scoresheets. :rolleye:
And everyone in top 10 will get most +2 and +3 :angry1:
Judges and tech specialists want to break the system asap. :gaah:

I've only watched Marin and Kaori, and I don't think I'll watch any more. They delivered, but I didn't feel the programs or the skates were very inspiring. Marin had abundant grace and flow and softness but no fire or energy. Kaori had very impressive jumps but such bland expression (I don't mean just facial expression) and again, no fire or energy. And what's with these level two step sequences? I think back to Rika and Anastasiia from last week and these performances just pale in comparison in terms of presentation, energy and wow factor.

I think judging here was unfair and political. Zagitova was overscored, OK. But Samodurova was grossly underscored. If they were together here with the same performances would it be same 14 point difference between them? Samodurova with JGPF potential was crossed out from the list of contenders by judges here. Now there left Zagitova and Gubanova plus untested yet Tsurskaya and Nugumanova.

I more wonder about this:
Polina Tsursksya's wiki:
Set the junior-level ladies' record for the free program to 128.59 points at the 2015–16 Junior Grand Prix Final, previously held by Russia's Elena Radionova.

Now, Marin got 128.64. For the first competition. Is it joke? And they dare complain Alina's scores. What a shame.

Also Marin was overscored here in my opinion: World record at her first GP event just to let her win the gold.

I'm sorry but i can't really root for her: last season Alisa deserved more that bronze at JGPF, world champion(because Polina got injured) and judges gave her inflated scores out of nowhere.

This season she struggles but judges still gives her big marks considering her the new japanese star but i don't really know why: the base value of her programs isn't as good as other skaters and her skating is fine but nothing out of this world.

 If they're already this easy for juniors, image what they will do for seniors? Over 80 SP for Evegnia next season? Anyone expects it?

Hey I agree that Marin was overscored here but I don't agree that the judges started to score her higher out of nowhere last season. They have already seen her potential at JGP Colorado where she did a clean SP. An amazing one in fact. And a clean LP which she has done at her last JGP. So I don't think they had any notion to overscore her out of nowhere as you say.

As to what happened at JWC SP, that's at the judges' discretion. They were both amazing. Would it have been better if they had different scores? Yes but at the same time, it was not a big deal. Well for me anyways. :confused2:

Marin is an exquisite skater and deserves high marks for sure, but world record with the mistake on 2A at her first competition? I don't know. It makes it harder to root for her, even though I enjoy her skating and think she has it all to be a big star. Also, Sofia should have been on the podium for sure, 4th place is unfair and just wrong. Now she may not even get a second assignment which she totally deserves. I'm disappointed for Alisa, but she wasn't clean and only has herself to blame, even though judges were strict to her in the SP. Two other Japanese were quite unmemorable for me.
Now waiting for Nugumanova's debut, she has no less star quality than Honda, let's see will she get comparable marks or not. And hope to see a clean Gubanova with her beautiful rippon jumps again, she is such a unique skater

Actually, watch Makoto and Samudrova, they delivered the expression.

I just watched the last group.

Ye Lim Kim - it was nice to hear a female-sung pop song for a change. I absolutely loved her dress. Very nice choreo and beautiful movement but generally lacked expression. Say what you will about Radionova but she knows how to squeeze every last ounce of emotion out of her cheesy music choices. But given her age, lots of time for improvement.

Alissa - nope, sorry, not for me.

Samodrova - Yep, something for me. I like her attitude. And her dress.

Makoto - I think she was the most expressive of the last group, it was a pleasure to watch.

Kaori - I don't know, I find her skatig forgettable. What was unforgettable, though, was her reaction in the K&C, such an opposite of Marin's. I suppose she's never felt like she could win.

Marin - I suppose all her bad programs and performances will be saved by her amazing grace of movement, because, well, who can match her in that. Perhaps the somewhat subdued performance was doue to the nerves? She looked downright scared in the K&C, as if she didn't score great some unimaginable tragedy would happen. I suppose that tragedy would be not getting into jgpf. The girl needs to learn how to lose.

I was going to watch this unspoiled, but the first thing the JGP channel displayed was the medal ceremony... so congratulations on the sweep? :slink:

I think she is feeling a lot of pressure because a lot of attention has been put on her since winning the junior world title. And even before that. I think the Japanese skating media see her as a major star leading up to the Olympics. That's a lot on a 15 year olds shoulders.

Right before her skate she looked visibly nervous and I really thought she was going to skate poorly. But she totally rose up up to it and I think the K&C was just a major release valve for her.
