Far too tired to write an analysis of my thinking. Come to think of it, I didn’t think at all. I was just on auto-pilot.

Just did a quick cruise through this thread, and saw a lot of 65's and 60's for pairs. Duhamel/Radford finishing third messed up almost everybody, but I think I saw one perfect score, kudos!

I was doing this while helping my daughter with calculus homework, which got me thinking. Any math brains out there? How many permutations of 5 skaters/teams are there when you have 8-12 skaters/teams to choose from? What is the formula to figure that out?

If you have 12, then it's 12 (people who could finish first) * 11 (people who could finish second) * 10 (people who could finish third)... and so on.

So, number of people (n) * (n-1) * (n-2) until you get all the slots filled up.

The number of variations when you have 12 skaters and you need to pick 5 in a certain order is 12!/7!

Men’s Results

GOLD with 75 points: Mrs. P, Pippuripihvi, silverfoxes

SILVER with 65 points: casualfan, Debrah, Fish in the sea, Greta, icetug, LaArdilla, nikki51, slider11, StitchMonkey, sunnystars, temadd, voolfee

BRONZE with 60 points: Bellaxx, skylark

Congratulations to all the medalists! :hap93:

All the gold medalists were impressive with their perfect scores, but I have to give an extra shout-out to Mrs. P, who even predicted Ross Miner correctly in sixth place. Although there’s technically no extra credit for your sixth/”in case of withdrawal” pick being correct, I’ll send you that beer you mentioned in one of your posts in the predictions thread – you deserve it! (Unfortunately it’s just a virtual one…) :gclap:

Other players who got the podium in the correct order: Debrah, Pippuripihvi, silverfoxes, StitchMonkey, temadd

Even though it was another crazy Men’s event, and it sadly had the withdrawal of Jorik Hendrickx before the event and Maxim Kovtun and Daniel Samohin after the SP, scores were much higher overall this week. The most common score was 55 with 67 players with that score! That’s a whole lotta platinum! (And it would have been a whole lotta typing if instead of platinum, that was bronze! :dbana:)

Most players correctly predicted Nathan Chen for gold and pretty many people also had Han Yan correctly in fifth place. In fact, quite a few people had the top five skaters correct – just not in the correct order.

A good amount of people had Sergei Voronov correct for bronze; however quite a few had Adam Rippon and Boyang Jin reversed.

The withdrawals didn’t affect scoring too much. There were a few people who still had Hendrickx in their predictions, and a fair amount of people had Kovtun in their guesses. But in most cases, they were covered with extra picks, so their picks just moved up a slot. Interestingly enough, many of the people who did have Kovtun had him fifth and Yan in sixth, so that moved Yan into the correct spot of fifth. No one had Daniel Samohin in their top five picks.

So sad to see still more injuries, including Samohin, who was fifth after the SP – it was great to see him do well after he struggled so much this season. Wishing all the skaters much better health! :ghug:

The GPF men’s entries will be: Nathan Chen, Shoma Uno, Mikhail Kolyada, Sergei Voronov, Adam Rippon, Boyang Jin. Alternates are (in order): Jason Brown, Javier Fernandez, Misha Ge. Congratulations – here’s hoping for great skates for all of them! :cheer2:

Good luck to everyone with your GPF picks!

I’ve added the scores to the spreadsheet. If you have any corrections, feel free to PM me.

Who would expect that ladies go they way they stand after the SP? In fact, icelist, more or less, who correctly predicted Sakamoto, Daleman, and Tennel and is a provisional leader with 55 points. Well, even icelist could not see Polina outside top 5. Still, quite impressive. I think, no one can stop Mrs.P's spurt to the top. With 45 point she is trailing icelist. Having "ice" in the nickname may help this time: icetug also has 45. Finally with 40 CaroLiza_Fan and myself are currently on the third. Most of the people have 10-20 points. Let's hope that Polina will redeem herself in the free.

:scowl:, I want to hide, this will be an ending with 'bang', not neccessarily good one...GPF will be a nightmare to sort in singles

Ladies' results

What an event! Out of 122 predictions 68 earned 10 points and less. The more valuable is to win this!

GOLD with 40 points: Pippuripihvi, CaroLiza_Fan

SILVER with 35 points: Shoma One

BRONZE with 30 points: russianfan, Poice, icedance, [email protected]

Congratulations to all the medalists! :hap93: :hb:

Ashley's WD brought the havoc to my scoring model - I had to make manual adjustments taking her off predictions, shifting everyone else up and bringing the substitutte to the 5th place. I tried to be careful but with manual labor mistakes may happen. If you think your score is different, please let me know.
