Oof, that senior ladies lineup. I know it's an American thing to start competing senior domestically asap but... if Kaitlyn, Nina, and Livvy don't make nationals, how on earth are they supposed to get any assignments next year? All seven of those girls deserve to be at nats and have been multiple times.

As we sat and watched, we talked about how cruel the sport is. Pop one jump, leave out an element, and it can effect your season dramatically....then there are the injuries.....
As a great some one or other person once said, "Deserve aint got nothin' to do with it..."
As my friend Andy says, "I love all of them" and that's the best way to put it.

Another exciting day at the skating. I had never seen juvenile pairs.....max cute factor but I was there for the novice ladies.....
It was a nail biter with lots of lead changing but in the end, the short program leader Amie Miyagi's minor meltdown in the FS was not bad enough
to keep her from going to San Jose. She got fourth, beating out Anastasiya Chechetenko by three points.
My unofficial count says it was Lin, Zhu, Rosa, and Miyagi, but I didnt get my nap in so who knows?

Tomarrow, my day begins with junior dance.....everyone excited about SA in Everett, the other Washington.

What was your impression of Noelle Rosa? Last season I saw this post
https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/s...US-Regionals&p=1549525&viewfull=1#post1549525
and has since been curious about her. For the jumps she got a total of six underrotations for her short and her free combined, hopefully she and her coach will work hard on that.

Speaking of underrotations Alysa Liu didn't receive any underrotation calls for her short here, or for her free at the regionals. She received so many at the Nationals last season and at the Asian Open Trophy this summer. How strict or lenient the calls are varies from competition to competition and it's hard to draw a conclusion regarding her improvement, but hopefully she's been working on her rotations with her efforts paying off.

Another thing I noticed from the protocol, which shows both the executed as well as the planned elements, is that Vivien Le only planned 3Lz+2T in the short. I just went back and checked her regionals protocol and she had no 3-3 planned or executed. Has it always been like that for her? I must confess I haven't really followed Vivien Le but has had this image of her as a really great jumper from what I have read on this forum.

Watching novice pairs right now and eek, what a rough skate for Markin and Essigmann. I'm sure they're glad that's over, and that they're still going to nationals.

Really enjoyed watching Sarah Feng/TJ Nyman and Meiryla Findley/Matthew Rounis from junior pairs. So watchable.

Elena Pulkinen was really enjoyable to watch too. Here comes the final flight of the senior ladies... heartbreak no matter what, I'm afraid. :sad21:

Bah, ice network was choppy through all of Starr’s skate! Did she earn that 120?

Starr Andrews was great! She definitely deserved the win overall. I noticed she didn't jump her flip or lutz here. Maybe she wanted to ensure a clean performance.

Tessa Hong won the FS! She really exceeded my expectations..those triples looked much stronger today than in the past. Has she been working with anyone new?

Somehow Vivian just managed to hold onto her spot despite 4 falls, and Kaitlyn managed to move up despite a messy FS including a weird semi-aborted combo that got invalidated

Don't about Tessa's training situation but she looked *really* solid. A joy to watch, and Starr did a great job too. Pretty big points gap between 2nd and 3rd, that's for sure, with some rough skates by the next few girls down. All lovely to watch minus the jump issues though.

Starr got injured just before the FS at the SoCal Interclub invitational finals in late september, I think. I think that may have prevented her from doing flips or lutz. Really a shame. I hope can work on adding those soon.

Good for Tessa! After years of those underrotations, it sounds like she’s finally getting past them! Wonderful!

It’s a shame I couldn’t see the competition because I refuse to purchase another IN subscription because of it’s glitchiness. But you guys are really tempting me.

Poor Shotaro Omori missed out on qualifying. He had a great 2013-2014 season and then struggled the next year with injuries and just hasn't been the same since.

Sunday! What a day.....The three families for the three Novice Pairs came and sat with us. They are very supportive of one another...very nice people. Mr. and Mrs. Fendi are from Champaign-Urbana Ill. where I spent 20 years. Tense moment when M/E crashed together but they are mostly ok.... Congrats to Joshua and Jasmine....here are some goophy pics I took of them when they sat down with us after the comp. The Fendis are a family you want to sit down and have a beer with. Very generous and warm to us. Click on thumbnails.

Junior ladies! Loved Alysa Liu. Lily Sun gets a dress award, as does Emma and Gia. Poor Gia! The ice monsters took advantage of her growth spurt problems and grabbed her. :( They were active today for sure.

Senior ladies was a shoot out. Starr shines bright and took the day! Tessa was wonderful and won the FS. I really liked Vivian and Nina but the ice monsters were hungry.... :( Vivian fell so hard in front of us, I dont know how she got up.

Better make plans for San Jose!

I will say, Knock on wood, it is much less glitchy this year than last. Dont know why....
(My apologies. Its about 8 pm Pacific and I just tried to watch Skate France ladies short. During Polina's skate, the feed froze 9 times (I am not making this up) for an average of 15 seconds a freeze. What the heck? I cant believe at this time they are overwhelmed with people watching sectionals and SkateFrance?????????????? Will try tomarrow)

I will just throw this out. My friend Andy knows Kaitlyn and is a big fan, but he told me he is/was kinda of hopin' she didnt make senior nats for this year. I dont know if that remark was because of her age or an injury or what. He told me about some other injuries while we were watching Jr. and Sr. Ladies but I dont feel comfortable about talking about them. He really keeps track of the younger skaters in his records. It does make me sad that there seem to be so many, especially during growth periods in these lady's lives. One thing is for sure. Figure skaters are tough as nails.
