Because the tech caller prophetically foresaw that Gogolev would need that extra quarter of a point? Please.

Also, one person alone doesn't make that decision on calls.

Could it be just an insurance before Gogolev's skate? Yes, it could.
As for how exactly calls are made - we can only speculate. If even there are certain rules - it doesn't mean they can't be stepped over.

I doubt that anybody looking at the lead Stephen had over Gleb after the short would be especially worried about "insurance" (something they didn't bother with with any of the other skaters, and would more logically have been focused on Sato, the person actually ahead).

Uh, no, we know the procedure. One guy can't just declare a jump UR and nobody else has any input.

That you disagree with whether the jump was UR (or whatever else) does not equal conspiracy. This is something fans of all nationalities need to learn.

He's doing shows; he did CSOI last spring, and will do the RTR tour in the fall.

He's talked about wanting to set up a skating school in the future, though I don't know where those plans stand at the moment.

So, so close for Miku and Tyler, but with the foot down on the twizzles, that was fair. Still a very good event for them, as far as boosting their profile internationally goes. Next week, we'll see if Natalie and Bruce can be the first Canadian team to close the deal and make the podium.

So...JGP Lake Placid was a pretty good event with Gogo getting the silver and keeping hopes alive to defend his JGPF title, Miku and Tyler showing that they can be future contenders with a close 4th place finish, Brooke and Brandon earning PBs and Top 5, and Emily attempting triple triples to garner a Top 6 finish...a good way to close out August :).

Stephen looked pretty glum in that video. :eek:hwell: I wish I could tell him what I told Joseph Phan three weeks ago in person: "Please don't be too hard on yourself." :console:

On one hand, I agree with you; I hope Stephen can be patient and forgiving with himself, allowing himself to adjust to his new training situation and his changing body. But at the same time, it seems like a bit of a Catch 22. It might be the fact that Stephen is hard on himself, that relentless drive to get better, to skate up to his own very high expectations that allows him to be this amazing elite athlete. And feeling disappointment when you train so, so hard and don't skate up to your expectations is ok too.

I think a skater needs to do what a skater needs to do - each is very different. That being said some things he has control of is that fs costume. Besides on the border of getting a deduction it has nothing to do with the program. A fitted turtleneck in black would have at least been sleek - he could sew some buttons down one side to show off line and for visual interest. I have seen better tops at Walmart or Target. Even an ombre shirt or heck a white dress shirt would be better. I don't know how he could feel confident in that outfit. But the bigger issues with his skating seem to be growth like Nam. Hopefully he will fare better. I hope he continues to gain strength and speed it is a good move. I wonder if he skates with Chen at all - though Chen is at school or does it help there are other top skaters around him. I kind of think he should have stayed with Orser and had Tracy Wilson do work with him too. It is interesting Orser has had many champions but trouble with Canadians he has lost many a hopeful - Daleman, Nam, Gogolov.

Looking ahead to Riga, obviously one wishes the best for all attendees. Joseph and Natalie & Bruce will be pushing to bring home medals to the TCC, as our main hopefuls there (I guess since it's a men's event, Eric would also have as good a shot as about a half-dozen of the other guys going there), but I'm also really hoping that Kaiya's junior international debut goes well. Skate Canada is obviously very high on her potential, given that they gave her two assignments right out of the gate.

Do you know which 3-3 Kaiya has in her short?
