Kanon Smith. Say her name! Am I watching the next young Mirai Nagasu???? This whole event was much better than I expected...will watch it again with wife unit.
Pretty good competition especially compared to the senior ladies. Some real talent coming up like Kanon Smith. Clare Seo had the best speed and skating skills of all of all of the girls and real good jumps too. How old is she? From top to bottom this was one of the strongest group of junior ladies in years where sometimes there might be a couple of strong girls but then not much else after that.
I loved this program. One of my favorite programs ever I think. I would have had Kannon 1st, and Tamnhi 2nd, Levito 3d, but...need to look at the protocols. (I know Tamnhi did only a 3-2-lost points there)I love Mary Poppins programs. I sing, while they skate.

The height on the triple flip was amazing!
My kid has been skating in SoCal along with Kanon for years (we do dance, although this year has been a wash due to lost coaching and our local rink closing permanently). Kanon has always stood out with her desire to skate and raw talent. Her family has done so much with so little it is absolutely incredible. Polite, sweet gal in person.
So thrilled for her success! She deserves more funding for sure.

I looked online for a bio, but couldn’t find anything. What is her family situation?
Not to the manor born, like most of us. But being an elite-level skater (for the past few years now) means that there's always more training that could be done, if the budget were available. Like most skating families at this level. They've had to deal with a certain amount of remote coaching as well, which is incredibly difficult. They have been very dedicated to training seriously and don't take anything for granted.

I’m overjoyed for Kanon! I saw her at a summer competition and ever since then, her raw talent has always stood out to me. I wish her and her family nothing but the best! This was probably the most competitive junior ladies field in awhile. Wow at the level of talent!

She realizes how much the face and movement is important to selling the performance to the audience. Artistry is alive. She isnt just a stone face doing tricks.

There are about five of these ladies who we really need to nurish for after the Winter Olys. The USFS has a nurishment program....for instance, if the committee thinks that skater "A" is very good but needs some outside help with her jumps, they will bring in a assistant temp. Coach for awhile if that is agreeable to all concerned. That is what they told me, anyway.
