I wonder if he will revert to his modus operandi of not commenting during the skate?
I think he only does it for JGP, as he is probably expected to comment during skating for Worlds. However, I find that he manages to maintain unobtrusive touch even when he comments during the performance.

And, yes, yes, yes! Ted Barton will comment for JWC! 'Cause I know no shame and asked him :)

I have to disagree. I've always liked Ted, but at Worlds he did too much talking, and it began to be irritating.

In the women's short, Ted overtly (to me) was favoring the Russian skaters who are representing non-Russian countries. I don't watch very often, but his gushing was so excessive, I had to turn it off. I was really hoping we'd get a commentator who understands finesse, music interpretation, relevant arms, maturity, etc. In my opinion, his gushing over what he thinks are the added technical difficulties of arms "aloft" during jumps was particularly poorly placed because for certain training schools they are considered easier than the traditional position: the reason for this, evidently, is that petite athletes can spin faster (and therefore execute more and faster turns) in the air.

As for Ted's emphasis on how Mariah "disappeared" and "we thought we'd never see her again" and age and..... How many times did he say that?

On the other hand, all the other women skaters except Ted's obvious favorites had such a lightness of being. What a pleasure to watch. Even watching them getting on the ice, you could feel how much less of a strain they were all under, and they had so much soul. I've really missed this over the past 10 years. And how great to see a competition that wasn't predictable ahead of time!

I dunno, I prefer his commentary in JGP, when he doesn’t comment during the competition and saves everything for replays, but I was so happy when he became replacement in Worlds. I thought he did great, given a short notice and that it’s not his usual style. I assumed he was expected to provide content for viewers who normally don’t watch FS, like during Olympics. Also, as someone who doesn’t know anything about ID, I appreciate ID commentary.

Mariah (an ancient 27) wasn't at Worlds 2021 because she didn't place top 2 at US Nationals 2021 and the US only had two spots (Chen and Tennell won back the 3rd spot for 2022). But Mariah skated at International de France and Rostelecom earlier this season. I guess Ted doesn't pay much attention to the GP except, of course, the Russian women who compete there.

She is 25? He is JGP guy, so, obviously, during the GP season he watches juniors the most and then the final.

Also, Mariah is not going to be in JWC, neither there will be the Russians, women or men, so can you guys not spoil the event with complaining about things that are irrelevant to it.

I suppose free ISU stream here in north Europe, because Viasat does not show juniors, or does it? Usually juniors have been free, but does anybody know better?

But Ted over and over again emphasized how Mariah “disappeared” and how old she was. That was my point. Mariah didn’t disappear anywhere, and there are surely more items to comment on than those 2. Ted’s over the top gushing here about Russian-trained-in-Russia-but-we-skate-for-another-country skaters showed up his partiality. It begs the question, too, about what he owes Russia that he’s kept up his favoritism despite a drug scandal in his favorite team, war, international bans, obvious signs of abuse….

We’ll see what he does with the Russian-not-Russians in this competition. I’m thinking I’d win a bet on….

43 junior women???? That's going to be hours.
And I think it starts at 4 a.m. EST. I think I will set the alarm and watch it from the beginning. Its the end of the season. I hope its not too early for my bunny to watch it with me. :)

Mariah still has 2 more days to be 25, as of today. :)
