Martin Fourcade is our National pride :cheer:

As he should be. I think he said in an interview(with swedish TV) that he won his first senior medal at olympics in Vancouver. Silver in pursuit like Sebastian today. Let's hope Sebastian can have the same carrier!

By the way, is Martin's brother Simon also in Peyongchang? He wasn’t in this race.

Simon is an alternate for the Games unfortunately :/

I love biathlon... I am really envious of those who can play this sport: unluckily I wouldnt have had the possibility as I live in a warm weather area :(

Martin's first was in Vancouver but in the Mass start when he made 3 mistakes but still got silver because he was way better on ski than everyone that day :)

Have you ever seen Summer Biathlon? Eurosport showed a city competition a couple of seasons ago, and it was pretty cool.

I can't find a video of it on YouTube, so here is the Women's Sprint from last year's Summer World Championships in Chaykovsky instead:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjbZSf3DdeI

Given it's location (and given that most people in biathlon didn't want to go to Russia last season because of the doping affair), it is probably not surprising that, apart from the Fialková sisters, all the entrants for this particular event were from former USSR countries.

From what I gather, nearly everybody at World Cup level trains on roller skis during the summer.

There was once a biathlon club here in Northern Ireland, and it held races on roller skis (don't know if it still exists, though).

So, if you can find a set of roller skis and a shooting range, there is nothing to stop you giving it a go! :)

Mai Asada (elder sister of Mao) is serving as the MC of Japan cable provider J:COM's coverage of the Olympics.

J:COM gets all the leftovers that none of the other broadcast networks want, and so for the past two days they've been showing a lot of biathlon, making this the closest thing to a biathlon/figure skating collaboration that I'm likely to see in my lifetime.

The wind is wreaking havoc with the biathlon too.

The Women's Individual, which was due to start in 50 minutes from now will now be run tomorrow before the Men's Individual, which will now start 20 minutes later than originally planned.

So, here is where we now stand.

Thursday 15[SUP]th[/SUP] February 2018

17:15 KST (08:15 GMT / 09:15 CET): Women's 15km Individual
20:20 KST (11:20 GMT / 12:20 CET): Men's 20km Individual

A wise decision. You can't risk bullets flying about all over the place...

Indeed! I don't think anybody saw that one coming!

From Rookie Of The Year to Olympic Champion in one season. Wow!

Not taking anything away from her, but it just shows how important it is in the Individual to shoot clean, because those 1 minute penalties are really punishing compared to the penalty loops or extra rounds.

Oeberg (1[SUP]st[/SUP]) and Peuss (4[SUP]th[/SUP]) both shot clean. Kuzmina (2[SUP]nd[/SUP]), Dahlmeier (3[SUP]rd[/SUP]) and Fialková (5[SUP]th[/SUP]) were rescued by being fast skiers. But everybody else was a good distance behind.

The only other clean shooter was Urška Poje of Slovenia in 12[SUP]th[/SUP]. Wonder if she is related to Andrew...

And a second silver medal for the Shilpulin family to celebrate!

Cogratulations to them all!

I took a time to watch men' individual now :hap85:

E: Oops Fourcade missed 2 targets in last shooting. J. T. Boe in first now also with 2 misses. But gold is still for grab if someone else shoots clean.

E: Surprisingly nobody took it. Fak was close with no shooting mistakes. Landentinger too. I dont know how Boe managed to ski that fast to win over them

Johannes Boe can thank Martin Fourcade for the 2 misses on his last standing shooting, haha. Joha definitely had the advantage of missing a target on the first standing, by the fourth loop he completely made up for the one-minute-penalty. Such is the appeal of biathlon, nothing's ever decided until the last moment.

Congrats to Johannes on his first individual Olympic gold!

I haven’t followed all oly disciplines but I vote Hanna’s gold for the biggest surprise so far. None had her in the medal conversation. In Sweden it’s been like that the only chance for medal was in women’s relay. And now both Hanna and Sebastian have had their break through already. Some hours later Hanna’s boyfriend Jesper had the same chance, but crumbled in last shooting.

For me it's definitely a tie between Hanna and Esmee Visser (speed skating) for the biggest surprise of the Games so far.

EDIT: After today, I think the title of the "Most surprising Olympic winner 2018" goes to Ester Ledecká. She won after Anna Veith was already being congratulated to as the Super-G Olympic champion. Then Ester came in and did the impossible (she's a favourite for gold in snowboarding btw).

Just watched yesterday's Women's Mass Start, and talk about domination from Kuzmina! It was almost faultless!

19 shots clean out of 19. Massive lead. But then the nerves and excitement kicked in for the final shot. A very long pause before it, during which she lost her composure completely. And when she did eventually release, she missed and had to do a penalty loop.

It was great seeing Nastya win. Her husband met her at the final corner, and gave her a Slovak flag. And she had to really slow down because she was having difficulty unfolding it. And I was getting worried, because Domracheva had taken lots of time out of her at the start of the final lap. But, she still won comfortably.

A bad day at the office for Dahlmeier. Missed a shot on each of the prone shoots, but she can normally make up for that with her ski speed. But, the speed wasn't there for a change, and she finished 16[SUP]th[/SUP].

Is the schedule of the past week starting to catch up with her?

It will be interesting to see if Dahlmeier does the Relays. If she doesn't, I think we'll have our answer.

4 years ago in Sochi, the men's mass start was thrilling until the very end, with Svendsen and Fourcade battling it out until the finish line.

Today in PyeongChang, Martin Fourcade once again found himself in a tight competition for gold, and it had to be decided by a photo finish once again. This race was insane.

Congrats to Martin Fourcade on his fourth Olympic gold, and to Simon Schempp on his first individual Olympic medal and his first podium placement of the season! :hap57:

They just showed us that on Channel 7, crazy stuff!

I didn't quite understand the photo finish process and was like "Hey tell us who won!" so it took me a few seconds to realise Fourcade had the gold! Congrats to him! :D
