The Rink at Campus Martius Park in Detroit opens this weekend with a celebration.

Yes. Both of Nathan's performances at the tree lighting are in the second half of the first you tube, alomg with the girls in green. This was the official opening of the downtown outdoor rink, and the second video I think is advertising for the outdoor skating season in general.
For Nathan's first number, they sent him out onto the ice before the band had finished their set, so he had to just skate arround in circles until the band finished up and his own music started. (Nathan looked cool as a cucumber just stroking around doing nothing!

Nathan's appearance was a week before Thanksgiving. Detroit used to have a big Thansgiving Day parade that ended up downtown with Santa Claus officially arriving in town. The parade still happens, but on a smaller scale -- hard to find spnsors. Anyway, the downtown department stores objected beacuse that meant that they couldn't start their department store Santas before Thanksgiving. ("Hey, Santa won't come to town until next week. You're not the real Santa."
