The mention of Sasha Cohen reminded me of Naomi Nari Nam who was the favorite skater of my late wife and me around 2000. We loved Sasha but liked Naomi just a little better and our expectations for both were great. Sadly an injury cut Naomi's singles career short. She did come back and skate pairs for a while. Here she is a 13 year old with a lot of comments from Dick Button and Peggy Fleming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txx3-6TCGLc.

I attended the 2010 Skate America in Portland, Oregon, and got to see Kanako Murakami get a surprise win there. I was impressed with how much energy and joy she exhibited in her skating and I fell in love with her smile. Her FP at Skate America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hykO4sB2_c0. Her short program at the GPF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7ez402aMlU. She achieved quite a bit but did go as high as I expected after my first impression.

Aliona Definitely belongs on this list!!!!!! I fell instantly in love with her when she won her first senior event. I was always perplexed as to why she didn't become a Huge Star.

She was on fire at her first GP Skate america 2013.

That nero program is beautiful.
Girl should have went to Buyanova sooner. Sotskova already having the favors didn't help her. She could have gone to olys if she had left Goncharenko at the end of 2015-2016 season.
My favourite program from her is titanic. Cheesy but it's my guilty pleasure.

Oh, I remember that performance so well! I was watching by myself and I had to call out to my wife, "Come look at this. This child is outskating Michelle Kwan!" In the short program, Naomi fell really, really hard on the back of her head. She was dazed for a minute, but did not suffer any lasting effects.

She first came to our attention a ciouple on months before when she did her iconic "Little Bitty Pretyy One" exhibition for a Christmas Special starring Kristi Yamaguchi. Kristi was sufficiently show-biz savvy that she let 13-year-old Naomi close the show, not wanting to get upstaged on her own special.

Is she not?? I realize she didn't go to the Olympics but in terms of being'a star'...I think she became a pretty big star for someone who had a very limited career especially as a senior internationally.
