Congrats Sota for winning the High School Figure Skating Champion, although he is still in the first grade

Nagakubo-sensei says the reason why his jumps are not consistent recently may be because Sota has become 4cm taller in 6 months.

"I'm going to include two 3A and two quads (in my FS) in the Junior Worlds in March. I want to be back in good form by then, and do my best to do perfect performance."

"I only have regrets with my performance (today). But it is a good thing that I am experiencing lots of things this season, and I think this competition has a meaning as well. I'll do my best for the next competition."

Go for it, Sota :cheer:

Congratulations Sota on topping the SP in the YOG!

I don't know whether it is the camera angle in these videos (https://m.youtube.com/watch?autoplay=1&v=qDgq-xqgl8s, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-KNgAxD6pnc&autoplay=1), but it seems to me he came perilously close to the boards in some of his jumps. Anyway, I am glad that except for an edge call, there was no mishap for Sota in the SP. Here's hoping he finishes at the top of the podium as this will be a huge statement prior to the 2016 Junior Worlds. Go Sota!

Yup, he did, especially for his 3Lz-3T combo, so I hope he'll be extra careful during the free. He has what it takes to win, but he must be clean (or avoid as much mistakes as possible). His 3A was looking good, but I hope his quad has become more stable since Nationals.
Go Sota! You can do it! :cheer: :hap10:

Now please work on that 4T and 3A for Junior Worlds where I hope to see you again on the top of the podium (and equal the achievement of your senpais Yuzuru and Shoma).

Good job Sota! Not his best skate for sure, but he fought hard for the win! :cheer: Hopefully he'll be able to fix his 3A and 4T before WJC.
But today is a happy day for him, he should enjoy it with his teammates before going back to training. :)

I don't think he should stay in Juniors for another season tho, cause he stated that he really wants to go the the 2018 Olympics with Yuzuru as his long term goal, so moving to seniors next season is the best choice if he wants that goal to be a reality.

Really hope he recovers quick, I really wanted to see him at Junior Worlds :(((

Btw, I'm new here.

Welcome to the forum!
I agree also, staying in Junior next year won't do him much good to prepare for 2018 Olympics. Of course, him having a Junior World title would have been great, but he doesn't need this to achieve big. He, at least, got a Bronze medal last year, it's still something (and not forgetting JGPF medals two years in a row, and the gold at YOG)...

This is a really unfortunate accident. :( Both him and Nathan were favourite for Junior Worlds, and... well, the odds were definitely not on their side for the end of this season.
I hope he'll be able to recover fast, though it's going to take time, since it's no small injury. Stay strong, Sota!

Thank you!
I heard a fracture may take about 6-8 weeks to recover tho. I bet he's really sad.

I was so ready to name Nathan Junior World Champion at the begging of the season. And now he's injured. And I was ready to name Sota Junior World Champion and now he's injured too ...

Adding my welcome and hope you will post here often. :)

Re Sota turning senior next season, frankly I have some reservations. I am not sure he will be through his growing pains then (which destabilized his jumps this season) and that coupled with the much stiffer competition in the senior ranks may cause him to flounder rather than immediately make a mark. IIRC also, Sota said he wants to be in the 2018 Olympics with Yuzuru because the impression was that Yuzuru would retire afterwards, which Yuzuru since then has corrected. It is Sota and his team's decision to make though and as a fan I will always support him.
