Tune in to "Off Ice" as Ted Barton and Mark Hanretty discuss the 2023-24 Rhythm Dance theme and touch on the "essence" of the 1980s!

Which songs/artists 🎶 would you like to see performed in the Rhythm Dance? What are your recollections of this decade? Please share - we'd love to hear!

The 1980s was a time of musical diversity, with the coexistence of new wave, pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic, and more. The fashion of the 1980s was characterized by daring, flamboyant choices. Neon colors, oversized shoulder pads, leather jackets, leg warmers, and acid-washed denim were all the rage, reflecting a desire to stand out and make a statement.

This period also saw some of the most iconic films in history, many of which became franchises. Movies like "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Back to the Future," and "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" captured the imagination of audiences worldwide.

Loved hearing them talk about the 80s and even more, including the availability of the JGP and increasing the size of the audience. Ted and Mark have such a great chemistry.

So is "Off Ice" a new podcast with Ted and Mark? They mentioned a second episode. That will be awesome. :)

We do have a few more scheduled! Can't say if it will be "regular-based" due to their chaotic schedules.

On that note, what topics would you be interested in hearing them discuss?

I would like their thoughts on almost anything. Just a few off the top of my head, but I'm sure others have better ideas:

They (sort of) touched this in the last podcast, but do they have any ideas for making the Senior GP as accessible as Ted and his team have made the Junior GP (praise be!).

Is there anything the ISU can do to promote the sport in non-traditional skating countries? Or does that just depend on a charismatic skater like Donovan Carrillo "breaking out"?

How do we encourage longevity in skating? Do they even think that should be a goal for skaters, or doesn't it matter?

Do they think more skaters could skip the GP and skate Nationals and possibly Worlds, like Jason Brown did/is doing? What do they think a skater would need to follow that trajectory?

What do you mean by "accessible"? Live stream?

Not sure I understand the last question?

Not sure I understand the last question?

To the first question, yes, live stream and also replays available after the event. Do they have any information that would help understand why that isn't happening for seniors? Any ideas as to how it could happen for seniors?

To the second question, do they see the path of skipping GP and competing at Nats and Worlds as a realistic path for other skaters (particularly "older" skaters)? What do they think of that approach? How could other skaters take advantage of that approach?

Thank you for this opportunity to suggest questions for Ted and Mark :)

This is due to broadcasting rights all over the world. Same with the major events, like 4CCs, Worlds, etc.

But I do wish ISU could stream the CS events. That would be great!
