I am not sure if this is true or not, but IFS Magazine tweeted this article earlier stating that Evgeni Plushenko was named Russia’s National Coach:

I have no idea if this is true, as I don’t speak Russian. Can someone please translate this and confirm?

That is not the first time i see some bs from IFS magazine
As for your question, you can look at the replies to the tweet

"A coach, not THE coach. One of 40-something coaches who coach member of Russian Team. At least translate propertly and make some sense. There are no THE coaches in any figure skating national team because figure skating is not a team sport"

If it was true it would be the outrage of the century! I read the same thing you did Ash and could not believe my eyes. I’m glad it’s not true. Plushenko was an all-time great fligure skater one of the two or three greatest without question. But that means very little as a coach which he is now. Evgenii is great at making promises to other coaches skaters. But let’s see what he actually goes as a coach with Sasha. He bombed with a talented girl in Nastya T . Then he trashed her after he got rid of her. She has not recovered from that. The pressure is on Plushenko to deliver on Sasha.

I can't speak about every skating national team but in Russia there is Couching Board / Council the head of which is considered to be the head coach of Russian National team, and among the memebers of the Board / Council there are head coach for pairs' and singles' skating, for ice-dance and for syncronized skating.

As for Plushenko you are totally right, one of 40-someting personal coaches of a national team member.

Has Plushy expressed a desire to join the team. His academy is very new and you'd think he'd want to continue building and working to make it a real success. Is it possible for him to do both?

Hm...some news

Plushenko after Trusova's transition to him, he received the status of coach of the Russian national team and got a bet at the CSP

Rodnina: “Plushenko has an athlete who is part of the national team of the country, naturally, if an athlete is included, then the coach is included. This is not an appointment, this is a normal process. That is not ranking...

Eteri: Tutberidze about Plushenko getting into the list of coaches of the Russian team: “What kind of nonsense. Coaches of the national team of 50 pieces, including Plushenko "

Tarasova: Tarasova that Plushenko received the status of coach of the Russian national team: “We must be patient and observe the process of mastery”

Gorshkov on including Plushenko in the list of coaches of the Russian national team: “This is a technical moment” - “This is a technical moment. The coach of an athlete serving in the national team automatically becomes a specialist in the national team.

He is definitely A coach in the Russian National team. Because of Trusova.

So Nastya's unsuccesful season is Plushenko's fault? LOL! Maybe that would have been better if Nastya remains at the academy. If we watch Nastya and Sima's cases they are not too succesful now. Unfortunately.

Uh, of course. He's a coach of a skater on Russia's national team. Is this news or something?

The way Plushenko treated her on quads was horrible. So yeah, some of it would be his fault, I'd imagine. I didn't enjoy reading his interviews at all at the time.

He wasn't a nice in his intervew, yes. But Nastya wasn't injured under his coaching ,so I don't think that is the real reason of her unsuccesful season.

So you think coaching's OK as long as the skater doesn't get injured or something? She suffered serious psychological damage, I'd imagine.

Good point. I don't know what was worse Plushenkos hurtful cooments to Nastya T or Buyanovas vicious and unwarranted attack on Nastya G well after they parted and the coach got her flowers. Nastya only ever had great things to say about Buyanova. But the coach totally unwarranted had bad things about nastya trying to cripple her career. It worked. Sad. Same with Nastya T. Their careers are at sea as we say in America. I hope both girls can make come backs restarting careers but because of the unbelievable depth of the Russian relief it will be very hard to do so.
