It's fun to look back at 2012 4CC where Sui/Han attempted two quads as well (but two-footed the quad throw I believe). They've come so far!

they did indeed  but they are still giving away valuable points :drama: probably saving the best for the last

I can only hope so! :luv17: Of course, they didn't want to pull out all their big tricks now. They want to wait until the big competition :agree:

I think they did really well here, but I don't know anything about them. This is speculation based off what I know about North Korea but I think they *might* be able to develop if they keep training in N Korea, but given how competitive pairs can be I doubt they will ever rise more than maybe three places? I'm fairly certain that they have access to an ice rink year round (they must in order to train well for an event like this), not sure how many ice facilities like this are in N Korea though.

I'm guessing they paid some Chinese coaches to consult/give tips. Not any of the really high up ones though like Yao Bin and Zhao Hongbo though. And yeah, the Canada thing is never gonna happen. I mean, I don't even see the powers that be in Beijing being okay with them coming over either. But it's more conceivable than Canada. They're unfortunately limited by their own country. =(

I dont know anything about them/their coaches either. Im just really curious. Obviously, their coach must be good to take them that far in terms of elements. But can she teach them more? They also strike me as very balletic and musical. So the talent is there. I just dont want this talent to be wasted....

Congrats to S/H on an amazing win, and S/K for an epic FS.

It's a bit weird when someone scores a PB with a UR fall, but obviously the two quads justify it - especially that insanely good 4STh.

Hope Meagan can recover well though. Clearly this has been an awful 4CC for Canadians. :(

Just watched S/H and S/K.

Gotta say, S/H have one of my favorite SPs and LPs of the season. And TWO quads! Also showing that having quads can go right along with artistry. Super worried about Sui's injury though and that their careers might be cut short. They're still such a young talent with what should be years of development ahead of them. (I think I'm rooting for them to get the World title this year, hope they're cleaner at Worlds than they were here.)

S/K had the performance of the night though. I didn't think they'd rebound so quickly after losing their National title! Does anyone else think they have one of the best pairs spins in the world? I love the speed.

That was really beautiful! So powerful and fast rotation. However I am not quite sure about the level 4 call. Man's hands down, split, and maybe footwork entry. How many features are needed for level four now?

Wow, this was an incredibly frustrating pairs LP to watch to be honest --

1 & 3) I adore both S/H and Y/J but to know of their injuries they are having to skate through, it almost feels like you're witnessing a crime but can't do anything to prevent it. I think it's a coach's responsibility to protect their skaters' health and think of the bigger picture beyond skating -- both teams would be exponentially more sensational than they already are if they were given proper time to heal, I think. And the federation needs to lend more support to Y/J -- new programs, etc. I think it would help their confidence immensely. But kudos to all of them for fighting through. Especially S/H with the two quads. Would LOVE to see them win in Boston, because their programs are excellent (Y/J deserve programs of similar quality, pony up Chinese fed!).

2) Good on S/K to land the big elements and go clean -- but this program, to me, was the least watchable of the top seven. Did they change the music back to the pre-nationals edit? It's just so beige and sort of drones on and on, but I suppose it helped them land their elements. This reminds me of the sort of programs Inoue/Baldwin used to do -- mostly unmemorable showcases for big-ticket technical elements.

4) K/O looked pretty solid overall, good for them. I really enjoy their spirit and energy, even though they didn't match their nationals performance.

5) I/M :palmf: If Lubov could only hit her jumps, they'd be unstoppable. They have the most beautiful and unusual lifts in the world right now and this program would be a masterpiece if they could skate it clean. But she needs so much work on the solo jumps (and he his spins) -- so much that I'm not sure what can be done in time for 2018. Like others have pointed out, it makes me wonder why MT/M1 split up in the first place. I wonder if Kirsten is feeling regrets?

6) C/T -- honestly, another pairing I'm beginning to question. It just doesn't seem to be coming together for them, even though there is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be happening. Their music for both programs (especially the SP) is lacking in taste, so maybe new packaging (plus work on the SBS jumps in the off-season) will help.

7) R/K -- wonderful, wonderful team that is improving very quickly. Their federation/home country is doing them a huge disservice if they're not allowed out to compete more, because they have the talent to be on the GP and at Worlds. Honestly, is defection an option? Just imagine what could happen with more resources.

8 & 9) G/D and S/A -- both these programs were difficult to watch, both teams don't seem to be jelling and the lifts are terrifying. What is going on in Montreal with the lift training?! Is it just a matter of weight training or do some specialists need to be brought in in the off-season?

I watched only S/K nad S/H so far. Very happy Sui/Han have won despite mistakes, but that was kind of given after Duhamel/Radfrod withdrew. Very unhappy that Sui competed injured here :( As for S/K I'm impressed by their FP. They did really good and what fantastic twist! Not as beautiful skating as S/H, but good for them

One time, I wanted to make a GIF of a particular Pogo fall (if you know which one it is, you'll know exactly why I wanted it made into a GIF. But, I'm not embarassing myself by telling you!) And I wanted to include the replays of all the various angles. But, none of the free websites let you make one over 20 seconds long, and this was about 28 seconds. And it was too complicated doing it manually. So I didn't bother.

And now I can't even remember when it happened! :drama:

CaroLiza, if you have the frames, you can use ImageMagick to convert the frames to GIF. It's free to download, and you run it from the command line. No time limit, AFAIK.

Murica doesn't suck at pairs anymore! :yahoo:

Also, good for the Queen and Henchman but it's scary to hear about her injuries. Really scary.

I watched only S/K nad S/H so far. And to be fair Sui/Han didn't deserved this high GOE on 4STh, because she put her hand on the ice. I saw this right away, so judges should also... And some gave only +1 which was about right, but surely +3 was too much. They would've won easily anyway and this is cheating (by the judges of course). And totally unnecessary too. It leaves a bad taste on overall beautifull performance (even with fall) and I'm their uber. Very happy they have won, very unhappy that Sui competed injured here :( As for S/K I'm impressed by their FP. They did really good and what fantastic twist! Not as beautiful skating as S/H, but good for them

Actually handdown was at throw flip, it still got positive Goe but not that, i think 0.7, should have been lower though, quad sal was awesome!

Really sad for the Canadians d and r. Hope she recovers well. s/h Ihope they take cae of themselves. With their issues I am not so sure they are the clear faves at worlds but mind you the top three faves S and H, Russias S and K and V and T all have injuries - maybe pushing themselves too hard to up the ante. As for the Americans good for them BUT I do find their scores a bit generous. And less we forget they clearly were beaten at Nats wheras you don't see the "real" top teams ie S and H or V and T or even S and K really falter that badly (keeping in mind the limited competition in the us relatively). I do wonder if S and B from Canada can compete against US''s S and K - the Canadians lack the tricks.

Wei is giving more details on Sui's condition and I don't know if I want Wenjing to risk her life and health for Worlds.:(

Dear lord, am I reading this correctly? She fell, hit her head, can't see correctly out of one eye and she *skated*?

Everyone here who thinks a gold medal is worth a head injury or your eyesight, line up over here so I can slap you silly:dev2:

I hope this is not what it sounds like; my best wishes for her restored health!

I honestly can't understand how she was cleared by doctors to skate. I mean... Look at icenetwork and their pre 4CC lineup of articles referring concussions. And we've got Wenjing skating after that kind of fall. I don't like it. I adore Sui/Han this season, they've got my heart, but I just can't cope with the thought of her skating like that. I think I know she has this kind of spirit but what about her doctors? Do they have any kind of responsibility for her health?
