It wasn't just bad, it was an utter disaster - 2 falls, no combo, and a faulty axel. That is very difficult to recover from, especially when your bread and butter is jumping and can't be saved on PCS. And his FS wasn't great either (5 jumping passes with -GOE, including a UR fall, and a V on his final spin). Frankly, after SA he's lucky to have even had a shot at the GPF.

Of course, he absolutely nailed his SP at CoC but a UR fall in the FS cost him about 9 points there (not to mention Chan skated one of his best freeskates ever). I don't buy the PCS low balling - he was on home ice after all (also it's interesting when people complain that Chan won SC due to home inflation, and then complain that Jin didn't sufficiently benefit from home inflation to win CoC to make the GPF).

Don't get me wrong, I *really* wanted to see Jin in the final too and it won't be nearly as interesting, but arguably Rippon earned his spot there - even if he doesn't have all the big tricks that Jin has.

Which is why I have no problem with his placement behind Sergei, Sergei also deserved higher PCS.

However, Jin has been one of the most consistent skaters of all the men, bombing only once. The other competitions he either skated well at his level or slightly below. He almost always nailed his jumps. He belongs to this flight of GPF men for sure, newly minted seniors snapping at the heels of the 3 top skaters, like Shoma. Of all the men, including Jason, Nathan, Shoma, etc., he's been gifted the least, and often low-balled the most. Not making it to GPF will hurt his Olympics chances, I do feel for him.

Again, it's not the skaters' fault, it's the judges who scored "inconsistently", eg. awarding 84 PCS for Nathan's wobbly FS here, while a WBM like Jin received much lower PCS for far fewer mistakes at COC.

White isn't ideal because it's harder to see against the ice, and I want to see the skater's movements clearly. A dark purple with a pale purple shirt might be better than this outdated purple though.

I hope he changes his pants color because my god I am very much "distracted". But sadly, he likes his SP costume very much now

I appreciate Yuzuru's subtle beauty program and his interpretation here (it is the first time in a long time that his skate make me tear up). But I think he is quite slow and a bit cautious compare to his best. In addition, he makes mistakes. I still think Javier performance at TEB and COR deserve to beat him in pcs if they skate in the same competition.

If we want to scrutinize every elements and every judge score, I think Yuzu are both over-scored and underscored at the same time. So I don't see a controversy here.

BTW, I think Zueva should improve Nathan artistic right? Why does she give him this program? After first two quads, the performance is gone and then all three spins is cramp in the end of the program. :scratch2:. If there is a program that sacrifice artistry for jump, this is the one......

Some shades just aren't meant to be worn, eg. avocado green...unless you're a fashionplate and can carry it off in style.

but it's a one-piece, which would look weird with different colors for its "halves" though it is very, cough, distracting :

Sometimes he re-dyes his costumes gradually darker. Like his Chopin blouse. It was a faded blue to start, and at the end of the second season it was a much more vibrant blue.

Come on people, please stop using photoshopped pictures to prove a point... it's so disrespectful and inappropriate. :hslap: And so irrelevant to this thread.

I wasn't making any big point. :handw: Just thought it was amusing and relevant to the off topic androgyny discussion here. Don't see how it's anything disrespecful.

Will comment on the competition much later because I have too much stuff to get done, although I already gave my thoughts on Yuzuru's program at his thread because I woke up 1h ago.

linking me to fan edits of Yuzuru as a woman really doesn't change that i don't think he is androgynous. yeah he has a pretty face and would make a pretty girl.
mind you I really wouldn't mind or care. That'd be actually pretty cool if he did his Prince program with eye make up like the Korean popstars (i am thinking this) but the way he looks in real life, the way he skates and the way he carries himself are not androgynous in my opinion. there really is no ambiguity that he is a guy.

I wasn't trying to change your opinion, maybe I should've just posted instead of replying to you, my bad.

I think that his skating has androgynous qualities, but you could say this to many skaters although Yuzuru's more proeminent, but he isn't in real life. Maybe the size of the perception of ambiguity depends on the culture background of the person observing too, and how well versed they are with androgyny. For me, also there's no doubt that he's a guy but I can see why some people see feminine qualities in his skating and costumes.

Also, I, too, say yes to adding eye make up.

I wish he doesn't alter his SP costume anymore, I really and especially like the new pants colour.

Javier made mistakes at TEB too and he was incredibly slow and labored.

Imho, skaters should stick to skating, leave the fashion to the fashion specialists.

I'm watching the Men's with my mom right this very moment, and 90% of her comments are about costumes. She goes on and on how to improve them, about colors and materials. It's like watching a runway show. Btw, she likes Elladj's, loved Tanaka's and Yuzuru's and Nathan's.

I'm telling you, if they left fashon to specialists, they'd take half of fun away from her.

That is a BRILLIANT angle I haven't thought of!

So the more outrageous, the more fun for us.

Your mom seems to be my kind of person. I spend too much time thinking about costumes before I begin to notice the program and I'm far from a fashion enthusiast.

Watched the rest of the men and this event couldn't be even more meh even if they tried. Better luck next time. Thrilled for Keiji. Thought I was hallucinating when I saw Ryuju at the SP lmfao Long time no see.

I'm madly in love with Ryuju's LP music, anyone could skate to this and I would love it.

Liked Nathan, although his SP is a much better program.

Hmm...

I'd say the real winners are
Brian: 2 skaters to GPF,
Rafael: (2) skaters to the GPF, and
Marina: 2(?) skaters to the GPF.

How are we counting Nathan I'm this? I'm so confused about his coaching situation.

I loved denis vasiliev best and liked seeing lambiels movements in his program. I thought he was wonderful and undermarked in presentation as every movement seemed perfect. while bychenko (little presentation) and keiki (rouch presentation) were overmarked in presentation.

Missed the men's event because fell asleep during Grant's routine (sorry..) so just checked the result....LOL and sad

Hanyu and Nathan in 1st and 2nd, not a surprise, but Keiji in 3rd?????????????? More than raising 20 points for PB, but that score wouldn't be anywhere near the podium at the other GP events. However still congratulations to Tanaka, what a surprise bronze medal.

Bychenko in 4th...sad and Jason in 7th that means Adam is in for GPF.

Ah....glad for Nathan and Adam, but poor Bychenko and Boyang. The Chinese federation...sigh..:noshake:

Judging by the overall much lower scores, the men's event would be splatfest or a doubling/tripling party.
