Another explanation could be that they want to put a bit more excitement into the Ladies this season. If Evgenia scores 80 in every competition there is no reason to watch other skaters with clean programs score in the high 60's. There must be at least a 7 in front.
Or maybe they came to the conclusion that they overscored Medvedeva and therefore they have to raise the scores for all the other skaters except Medvedeva?

Medvedeva will only score 80 if she's clean through and through. I don't think they're going to give her 80 with just 3-2.

I would be ok with the scores today HAD:
- Higuchi did not UR her 3T in the combo
- Kostner did a 3-3
- Zagitova did not mess her 2A

I'd say the placement is fine. But the scores are ridiculous. The tech specialists are making themselves and less reliable.

There needs to be PCS reform. The scores have been out of control for quite some time. It's the beginning of the season. Score should reflect The programs are still new and need some mileage.

I thought Zagitova's PCS was quite appropriate: she really impressed me artistically, the program is insanely difficult (the step sequence most of all), full of intricate transitions and steps all following the music. It is still unbalanced and she could use a couple of "commitment to what you are doing" seminars, yes, but her "cold" (and at times rough) execution is still way better than what most girls are producing while trying to "perform" (including Liza IMO :slink: ). Too bad for the 2A mistake, but that entrance is really of the most difficult ever...

As a fan, I'm obviously biased when I speak of Carolina, but she really looked solid out there, she was calm and focused and made everything work just fine (including the loop, which wasn't one of the best while rotating in the air). Considering how balanced and well-constructed the program is I think her placement is correct (regardless of the score itself). And: that program really does work, a lot more than I thought it would!

More like judging reform.:frown: I understand trying to create hype, but doing it like this just kills any sort of excitement I have for the upcoming season.

Wow looks like Axel is going to be Zagitova's nemesis this season. They change her steps/entry from last season from a harder one.

Even with the mistake her TES still 40

I agree with the PCS difference between Caro, Higuchi and Zagitova. Good job judges.

Now the FS is going to be exciting. Lets see if Zagitova has the same solid mentality like Medvedeva.

Tomorrow's FS result is going to be crucial. I feel like its going to be a make or break for her.

A short summary of my feelings: Clean skating from Wakaba with a program not interesting for my personal taste, clean but seriously overscored Kostner skating to Ne Ma Quitte Pas which is for me the most unbearable music choice from her, Zagitova -unlike the test skates- not able to sell Black Swan at all with "I just turned senior, I'm so nervous" looks, Liza being usual herself and not delivering what we all hoped for... I know this is just the first competition of season but I'm not satisfied with what I watched today. Am I expecting too much from this line up as a fan?:rolleye:

Clearly we haven't watched the same thing with judges.

i guess scores are that high just because competition is in italy. carolina always recieved a lot of love from judges at lombardia. and the other top skaters are scored accordingly to carolina

did not see the competition, but based on your reports and final scores...well - I think that there is no problem with skaters (unless our personal perception is saying so), but the issue is with judging them. Yet, ISU wants to focus on remodelling score system without touching an obvious elephant in the room, meaning how badly judges are using the current one we have...I mean - if you want to make a progress and positive difference, start with the real problem.

I was also worried when I heard of that music selection ... very difficult choice. But she makes it work! I'm so glad that she's still competing. A true artist.

I would say both tech specialists and judges are giving out more and more disappointments.

Are you suggesting something like the same judges at all GP events to encourage consistency in order to establish a kind of consensus scoring. Without that we are going to see differences, sometimes drastic differences, from event to event. I really don't care myself but I think a lot of fans are bothered by the varying scores.

Re:pCS
I think people are having a hard time adapting to the trend of PCS difficulty and execution of difficult Choreography starting to factor in much more than in the past.

Of course not. Just think the inflation of these PCS is creating this baffling scores. I know there's also GOE inflation and the Tech controller bias. But I feel PCS should reflect what's out on the ice and not reputation and the million of things that affect PCS that are unrelated to that skater's specific performance that day.

Judge subjectivity is normal. Especially when we're talking different locations and federations. It's when that subjectivity makes it harder for anyone to compete is the problem.

Bergamo is a bit of a sloppy skater but she does have really musical arms and hands. And that last spin was quite nice.

First of all ...thanks for quoting me because I accidentally erased my post while editing and wound up just deleting it. I'm such a spazz sometimes :hap85:

Yeah...PCS is a bummer. It's a real mess and I can't think of anything to fix it or more importantly give it any credibility.

Neither can I. Someone else on another forum suggested separate panels for TES and PCS. It apparently was done once a while ago, and better reflected PCS by skaters. But would that really eliminate reputation inflation?

My own scores from what I viewed today;

WH 69 given the UR 3T
CK 67 as no 3/3
AZ 65 2a fall, cautiously skated and behind her music

The tech panel must have had wine with dinner last evening. :slink:

The camera is horrible and deserves more hate from me than the camera guy who recorded cello session during Horn solo part in Tchaikovsky symphony 5 just recent years ago.

Am I the only one that things that Alya should have had higher PCS??
Very sad for Alya today, she must redeem herself in the FS tomorrow so that the Fed doesn't stop hyping her...
