Wait, Papadakis/Cizeron have changed the beginning of their FD? Why??!!! Them entangling their arms is EVERYTHING! It settles the theme of the program - a pair struggling within their relationship in the chaos of the world, who is on top, who wants freedom. I loved how they were coming back to this motive/move at the end - in the last ChLi outstretching and entangling (kind of) their arms again, but this time in more supporting and loving way...

They skated beautifully, but I don't like the changes in the program, instead of making it more interesting, they're removing some of the original touches and making it more blah...

Maybe a bit of reverse-karma?? Imo, B/S were 'gifted' the entry into the Grand Prix Final by the politics that worked in their favor at Rostelecom Cup (where I'd argue they received greatly inflated scores — new personal bests (PB's) if I recall — to win over Chock/Bates and Weaver/Poje). Remember, after B/S placed only 3rd earlier in the season at Skate America, the ONLY chance they had to make it into the GPF was if they won Rostelecom Cup and W/P were at least 3rd.

So, while I agree B/S deserved the silver here at Europeans, nevertheless, it could be argued that they received a great GPF gift earlier this season.
So, on the whole, I don't feel too badly for them (...plus, they still got a medal here at Europeans!)

Well, one could say that H/D were gifted the second place over B/S at SA. And C/B lost not once, not twice, but three times to B/S this season, so there's that.
And well, at the Euros it didn't help that the only russian at the TP isn't even that russian anymore too...

It bothers me that P/C didn't get the same deduction that C/L got at the end of their straight line lift in the FD. They did two rotations too. I've always thought they both should have gotten that deduction.

Maybe no one was spiteful enough for that? ID had enough drama already, though...

Not surprising final placements. I think that P/C skated their Free Dance better than in previous events and they not only caught up but surpassed with surplus like was to be expected. :)

Tat with a double standard? Say it ain't so!

:drama:

:shame:

:eyeroll:

I love Tatiana Tarasova but she's like the exact opposite of objective. It has its cons and pros, I for once like random emotional commentary /shrieks  She though sometimes talks too much through and that's when she gets on my neves.

What happened to Sinitsina / Katsalapov? I am still yet to watch them ... Overall even behind Polish team (I like them) but it's shocking.

They should do another 'Woodkid' style dance.

I'd like to see them them doing ''Character based program'' a la Anissina & Peizerat, perhaps with some bombastic approach and some actual story as an inspiration ;)

I think she has the resting b*ch face in general, but look how lovely and smiley she was in the k&c. :)

I liked how Barbara tried to comfort devastated Marco ;) :sad21: That expression that she gave after that fall was very emotional too :drama: I hope it does not stay in his head for too long, they have lots of positives to take from this competition.

That is kind of what I think and I certainly didn't think it when they said they were coming back or at the start of the season. I thought this was G/P to win or lose. Now I'm starting to think V/M are the team to beat. But it's still so early and so much can change and who knows what kind of material any of these top teams will have next year.

I do think the Rumba really does not favour the Shibs and is probably exactly what V/M wanted to see as a SD.

Yes, I believe it's "Latin rhythms" in general that most are referring to (and not necessarily the rumba pattern itself).

I also agree that V/M are probably most naturally suited to dance to "Latin rhythms" as compared to the other top dance teams. Although, W/P could surprise as they did in 2012!! Wow!

You said this so much better than I would have.

I do think they can work around it but it will have easy of a pair than can pretend to feel a lot of passion for each other like V/M. I think the Rumba will be theirs to win or lose.

What Elif said is also true. Some people can do latin dances and some people have to work harder at them. Tessa can do latin dances.

So,the problem is not the rumba, because everyone have been commenting about the rumba itself. About latin rhytms there are many styles. I think they did pretty decent that season at nationals https://youtu.be/tfv_ACXZ3JA?t=131 . And honestly I can´t imagine to Gabriella shaking her hips neither. But I am totally agree with everyone about V/M (especially Tessa) will have the best dancing

Shibs will have to be smart and give the program the right flair, but it's doable. PapCiz can work well with the sultry quality of the rumba. Actually I think most teams will manage to do better with next year's SD compared to this year's (there are some very awkward SDs even from the top teams this season).
Of course Tessa and Scott got really lucky because they really shine while doing Latin and I believe the rumba is also Scott's favorite pattern dance...I think you can't ask for more in your last season

Having read the whole thread, I'm staying out of the C/L B/S discussion since I didn't watch, but I just wanted to say totally agree with everyone that next year's SD is great for V/M. I can't wait to see what they do with it. I was re-watching their 2012 SD and as people have said, oh boy can Tessa do latin dances.

I can't stand Patricia Kaas, RIP my ears :dbana:

I also can't stand Sarah Brightman, Celine Dion, Josh Groban and I am starting to hate Michael Buble. And guess what ... I watch figure skating too. I seriously dislike lots of music with lyrics this season, too much cheesy, cliched & dated "adult contemporary" choices. We're in serious need of breath of fresh air here. We're not in 1995 anymore (I know that Josh and Michael have not much common with that era I am speaking in general). I do wonder what skaters would be using if vocals were allowed back in the 90s ... 70s music?!

I see this argument all the time about Skate America, but B/S had mostly higher PCS and GOE..H/D won on tech. And it wasn't a slight difference of tenths of points, they had a huge tech advantage in the SD that they lost entirely in PCS to B/S. I know B/S had a problem with one of their level calls, but I mostly don't see that H/D were being hugely pushed at Skate America.

I rewatched C/L : Anna actually did 4 and half turn before her foot touched the ice.
I actually thought that even with that a level should have been dropped, no ? or is it okay ? (somebody get me a specialist ! :drama:)
But they are fuuuun to watch.

When it comes to GOE, she obviously stumbles. The execution of the turn is also incorrect, and the execution is not simultaneous. All these errors must be reduced by 1 grade each, so GOE shouldn't be higher than 0. The rest was perfectly executed, so you can start at +3 and reduce with -3 and end up on 0 on GOE.

When it comes to the level 4, it gets tricky, but it is correct because she does 4,5 rotations before she stumbles, and they complete all the requirements for level 4, i.e. different entry edge and different direction of rotation of the two Twizzles (forward inside counter clockwise on the first twizzel, forward outside clockwise on the second twizzel, 4 rotations in each of the two Twizzles, and they have 3 different additional features from 3 different groups (elbow at least at level with or higher than the level of the shoulders, including hand above the head (group A), holding the blade (group B), and both perform a third twizzel on backward outside edge for 3 rotations correctly (group C))

So you think there's only a push on PCS? Let me tell you about the time they had to find the winners of the SD at Euros hours after the competition because the TP made a mistake and another team with vested interest made some calls... :slink:

If you have a friend at the panel, you have a friend. Last year's WC showed that more than anything.

p/c said "It’s a pity that the jury did not give the scores that we feel deserved!" to the media..
any thoughts on this?
