I was curious if Eurosport would bother this year, and looks like they do. Which 99 % certain means there'll be the usual full coverage on the livestream, too. :agree:

Dutch schedule so far (two hours behind Moscow)

Wednesday:
15:45 - 17:15 E1 (must be recap Men SP)
18:30 - 20:30 E2 LIVE (timing is a bit weird, but it’s probably the majority of the Pairs SP)

Thursday:
17:00 - 19:50 E1 LIVE (Pairs FS)
20:30 - 21:30 E2 could be either Ladies or Pairs recap

Friday:
17:30 - 20:00 E2 LIVE (2nd half of the Men’s FS)
20:00 - 21:00 E2 (probably recap Ice Dance SD)

For the casual figure skating fan, that's not too bad, I guess. For the die-hards... yeah, livestreams sound like a good idea. ;-)

Looks like a total disaster area as far as UK is concerned. So far 1 hour highlights Thurs evening 10 p.m. Ditto Friday. Clashes with both Australian open tennis - they'll be showing highlights throughout day/evening on E1 even if no live action after about midday. E2 is Masters snooker 2nd/3rd biggest tournament of the year, so no chance. Looking at schedule above imagine highlights will be of free programs of pairs and mens respectively. Nothing at all Wednesday, will have to see tomorrow about Saturday.

Edit - Saturday = same (as expected), there's one half-hour 'winter sports' programme E2 10.30 p.m., same on Sunday. .Com/International falls foul of other live sport on Saturday but still 1 hour and 45 min highlights programmes Saturday evening on E2.

I can't believe - EUROsport coverage of Euro Champs -are they kidding

Still hope the schedule will change for better closer to time - wishful thinking I know sigh

Edit: looked at the website -can't find any coverage at all for next week?!!!

Yes, let's hope it changes for the better. Funny thing as Winnie_20 says, coverage on the continent isn't so bad. I totted up about 12 hours in total, and it is pot luck what it clashes with, and Euros is earlier this year what with the Olympics. Problem seems to be the tennis, they're showing it all day (they have invested heavily in this, they even have studio presenters which is rare for them), but they seem to have decided to dedicate one channel to it, have snooker on the other, then fill in the gaps, and as we saw with the GPs they didn't really try too hard when it came to the skating. However with .com/International they've got to balance things more as I would imagine snooker is not as popular on the continent so skating's got a look in, whereas sometimes I get they impression they lose out because of things like German Bundesliga. Oh well, fingers crossed and hopefully the Player will be OK, but it's a disaster from a more casual fan's point of view.

Blimey O'Reilly! Was browsing Eurosport TV Schedule (like you do), and we're going to get great 4 Continents coverage! Was looking to see what there might be from a UK/Ireland perspective re Europeans and it's still looking no better (livestream fine though - see Winnie_20's comments above), but reached Weds 24th/Thurs25th and there's coverage in both the morning (some live), 3/4 hours worth on both .uk and.com/International for both days and replays in the evening! Don't know whether to laugh or cry from a UK perspective, but in general has to be great. Hopefully good news to follow re Friday and Saturday.

Yay, that’s great news, I love 4CC, well done Eurosport! I suppose it helps it doesn’t clash with the Australian Open (?).

OMG, I’ve just checked the Eurosport UK schedules so that I could set the recording for all the figure skating next week, only to discover that are only showing 2 bloody hours of Figure Skating 😡😡😡 One hour each for the Pairs and Men’s free, would that be the Top 6. It’s really a disgrace, I’m so disappointed. I was so looking forward to hours and hours of figure skating and cheering on every OES. Couldn’t care less about the 4CC’s.

Typical! So, Conor's making his debut at a Major, and nobody back home will be able to watch it unless they have Eurosport Player.

Unless he gets into the Top 6, that is! ;)

Well, we can dream...

Caroliza, what is your expert opinion could there be a ..slight.. chance they might put in more closer to time? I really can't believe it especially as the coverage on the continent is quite decent (including Russian Eurosport). I just can't believe it...

I'm actually making out the TV schedule now. And a lot of the coverage which is being shown on the TV on the continent is being bumped onto the Player in these islands. So, I take it from this that they are not planning to make any changes.

But, you never know.

Here is the start of my Eurosport TV schedule for the European Championships.

Firstly, apologies that I didn’t start doing this post out on Wednesday. I actually forgot that the Majors start earlier in the week than the GP’s, and only realised yesterday when I saw people complaining about the lack of coverage on British Eurosport. :slink:

Like with the GP Final, one of the snooker Majors (the London Masters) is also on during the same week. But, we also have Australian Open tennis to contend with. So, the coverage of the figure skating isn’t great.

Please note that due to these being on, some of the coverage that is being shown on the linear channels on the continent is not being shown on British Eurosport. HOWEVER, we will not be missing out on hearing “our guys” completely, because the LIVE coverage with commentary that is affected is being bumped onto the Eurosport Player.

And please also note, that when they eejits at British Eurosport were bumping the TV coverage of the Pairs SP onto the Player, they bumped it onto the wrong day! So, it is listed on Tuesday instead of Wednesday! :palmf: :disapp:

I can’t do the full schedule yet because Eurosport Player only has listings for 7 days in advance. But don’t worry, the remaining days will be added after the weekend.

Thank you so much for the list!

I don't know if this is the appropriate thread for a more technical question I have, but... am I to understand that the Eurosport player shows more/different coverage than Eurosport on TV? I was thinking of paying for the player to watch skating, but the Q&A on the site made it sound like it was geoblocked so I only got the same coverage as I would on my local Eurosport station (and I didn't want to pay for that, because my local station shows VERY little skating). But did I misunderstand?

Thank you so much for the list!

You're welcome!

By the way, I have just updated it to include the rest of the alphabet (the Russian site isn't working for me today, but hopefully it will the next time I try).

Eurosport Player and the Eurosport TV channels both use the same "World Feed" pictures that are filmed for the ISU. The difference is that the Eurosport Player shows each segment in it's entirity without commentary. The Eurosport TV channels, on the other hand, only join part-way through each segment. But, they do have the commentary.

Eurosport Player is geo-blocked. But, you can get around it with a VPN. That is how I am able to look up the listings for each country's version of Eurosport Player. (Normally, the pages would automatically re-direct you to your local version of the Player).

Personally, I do find it is worth subscribing. I like seeing the lesser known skaters that go early, and with Eurosport having so many sports rights, they physically can't fit everything into just two channels.

Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 are actually included on the Player. So, if you don't mind watching on a computer or mobile, the subscription gets you everything.

Hope this helps

Oh but you can watch Player on your full size TV too! If you have a "smart" TV that's connected to the internet... or if you're able to hook up your laptop/tablet/phone/whatever to the TV. (I use an old laptop connected to the Big TV for Eurosport player, and various other streaming/internet things).

You're at the mercy of the internet though. Eurosport player is pretty stable and reliable where I am... but YMMV, especially if your connection is slow or unreliable... or your kids eat all your bandwidth... etc.

Also, I think Player is "half-HD" 720p resolution? So it's not quite as good as EurosportHD TV broadcast channels, which are "fullHD" 1080p...?

We don't have a smart TV, so I didn't know that you could get the Player that way. But I do have a long HDMI lead to connect the desktop computer to either the big TV or a small TV which I set beside. That is how I normally watch the Player.

However, I've managed to damage the HDMI lead swapping it between the 2 screens. So, at the moment, I have a picture but no sound coming through to the wee TV, and nothing at all coming through to the big TV. Sure, I can watch the pictures on the wee TV and have the sound at the other end of the room. But whilst I can put up with it for watching snooker and ski sports, it is not ideal for watching figure skating.

Thankfully, that is just a temporary problem until a replacement arrives.

As I think you suspected, it was the problems that can arise with any type of streaming that I was hinting at.

I don't know what resolution the Player uses any more, now that they don't give you the option of selecting (720p used to be the top option). But, it's certainly an awful better than what you get if you download something from Eurosport's On Demand service on Sky. The picture quality on there is far worse than even the SD channels!

So, on the whole, I would prefer Eurosport to launch a lot of proper linear channels. But, since they seem to have no intention of doing that, the Player is the best option we currently have.

By the way, I translated your custom user title, and thought it was funny. But, I was just wondering who it was referring to.

Ah, I would suggest two cables and a HDMI switch, to avoid unplugging/replugging cables...

You can replace cables easily enough if they break of course... but what if the sockets on your TV etc are damaged through such wear and tear...? Not so cheap/easy to fix...! A stitch in time saves nine ;-D

It's part of what Wakaba tweeted, after her disappointment at not being selected for the Olympic team ;_; She's referring to trying to make it to the 2022 Olympics, in another 4 years...

Don't worry, I've tried plugging other things into both sockets, and thankfully they all worked fine. So, it is definitely the lead.

The problem was that the wee TV is very badly designed. The HDMI socket is located on the side of the TV, and the gap between the socket and the back of the actual screen isn't big enough to allow for the thickness of the plugs. So, you have to put the plug in at an angle to get it in. Which is what damaged it.

I've learnt my lesson - I am getting a switch. But, it is going to have to be located at the TV end. Because two 10m cables going around 2 walls isn't really viable... (which is why I was swapping the lead around in the first place).

Ah, thank you. I worked out that it was referring to the work that goes in throughout an Olympic cycle, but just didn't know who said it.

Wakababy may not have got going to the Olympics, but she should be proud of coming up with this! It was a very clever analogy. :agree:

Thank you again, CaroLiza_fan! :thank: This makes me think the player will be very much worth the price (if I can find an undisturbed spot at work to watch skating while I reconciliate accounts...).
