I predict Miyahara's win. Not a real surprise though.

I doubt she will make the podium at NHK. She will not beat Gracie or Adelina, even with favorable home judging. Satoko, Kankako and Polina will fight for the bronze.

I doubt she will make the podium at NHK. She will not beat Gracie or Adelina, even with favorable home judging. Satoko, Kankako and Polina will fight for the bronze.

My prediction is based on past results and patterns.

Sotnikova always bombs in Asia (more exactly outside of Europe).

Gold is usually a "disappointment" in Japan (2012WTT, 2013FC, 2013NHK, 2014WC). Only "good" one is the FS of 2013 WTT. NHK Trophy is kind of a jinx for US ladies. No one has ever won since 1979 (the first event). They won only 4 medals in past 20 years (2 silvers, 2 bronzes). I don't think she is strong enough to break the tradition.

Miyahara probably will land all jumps. The rest is up to the caller (and JSF politicking). She will be officially designated as the #1 Japanese lady at JO in October. It would be necessary to avoid mistreatment at notorious Skate Canada. The new rules on edges are very negative for Murakami (and positive for Miyahara). It is strategically reasonable to "push" Miyahara for the purpose of saving three spots at worlds. Her scores will be up 10 points compared to the last season. And in Osaka (home town), a little more bonus to be added. Estimate the total score of 195-198 points is the benchmark for rivals. I don't think anyone but "good Sotnikova" has the realistic chance against "Miyahara at Osaka". Even with some home advantages, beating the top US and Russian ladies can be a boost for her reputation.

Murakami usually skates well at the same competitions with Miyahara (especially in FS). I can guess that she must have strong senses of rivalry againt Miyahara. If she could do well in the SP, she also has a good chance for a medal. But 195 points could be beyond her present ability.

What will give Edmunds the edge over Murakami in China? I'm still gonna dream of Polina getting gold in NHK

Your Ice Dance predictions are quite interesting. You have too much faith in US pairs, IMO. Especially Shibs and H/B.
And where is B/S at SA? Do you think they're gonna mess up again, or you just forgot them?

I agree C/B can 'win' SA though. Same as I/Z can 'win' Rostelecom cup  Last is less possible tho.

Murakami has never scored higher than 170 points at GPS in past four years. Edmunds has a good chance in China.

I asked because then the poster has Murakami above Edmunds at NHK.

Honestly, I can see why your questioning me. I think that Murakami and Edmunds are similar on the ice and if one of them gets second, the other will get third. I'm just speculating Murakami will have some "home field" advantage" at NHK.

I liked Skategmt's approach of listing a few possibilities for each. I'm putting the more likely (IMO) contender first. I'm only listing ladies but I already have predictions ready for men and dance

SKATE AMERICA
1. Gold/Radionova
2. Radionova/Gold
3. Nagasu/Tuktamysheva/Park

SKATE CANADA
1. Pogorilaya/Wagner
2. Wagner/Pogorilaya
3. Miyahara/Osmond

CUP OF CHINA
1. Lipnitskaya
2. Edmunds
3. Murakami

ROSTELECOM
1. Sotnikova
2. Pogorilaya
3. Nagasu/Park

TEB
1. Lipnitskaya
2. Radionova
3. Wagner

NHK
1. Sotnikova
2. Gold
3. Edmunds
**I could see Miyahara or Murakami getting onto the podium easily, if any of these three have a meltdown - which, as others have pointed out, is not unlikely.

It's going to be so interesting when we look back at the end of the NHK Trophy and see how close our predictions were.

I don't have much interest in non-Japanese skaters (save Plushenko) though

SA
1 Gold (very close "win" as Czisny at 2011 SA, could be a cursed gold)
2 Radionova
3 Cesario

SC
1 Miyahara (a weak field, the only problem is the home cooking)
2 Pogorilaya
3 Wagner

CC
1 Lipnitskaya
2 Edmunds
3 Murakami (not bad performances for the first GP event)

RC
1 Sotnikova
2 Pogorilaya
3 Nagasu (wins a bronze at the second GP again)

TB
1 Lipnitskaya
2 Radionova
3 Wagner

NHK
1 Murakami (perfect without Flutz)
2 Miyahara (almost clean)
3 Gold (held up again over Edmunds)
(Sotnikova WD)

Murakami will take the similar path with Ando of four years ago, short of winning worlds.
