Me too! Can't believe she's considered a Novice. The I-spin at the end is very reminiscent of Lipnitskaia's (although Julia spins a little faster).

So what would be some of the reasons a skater like this would stick to Novice?

I assume there are reason beyond "has not tested better yet"

It looks like she was born in 97, so she can't compete on Novice much longer can she?

The triples, maybe? If I recall correctly she only did a 3sal and a 3t. I think I remember her jumping a 3Lo in a previous comp, but high chances I'm wrong.

Maybe the answer should be "ask us after the long" as that would give a better idea of her full range and limits. Mostly I was just curious about the decision making process and what advantages and disadvantages there might be to skating Novice longer. Another thread pointed out that Nathan Chen and Jason Brown did compete against each other at either the Novice or Intermediate level, but Jason moved up and Nathan stuck around at lower levels and the theroy was partly so he could learn to defend titles. So I was curious what the strategies might be in general.

There are no age limits for Novice/Junior/Senior for US National level competition. Only Juvenile (<14) and Intermediate (<18).
