Matthew SAMUELS (RSA) was removed

Matilda ALGOTSSON replaces Joshi HELGESSON (SWE), I guess because Matilda scored about 16 points more than Joshi at Lombardia last weekend...

Goda BUTKUTE / Nikita ERMOLAEV were removed from the Pairs competition.

I hope this does not mean the end for this pair. I noticed Petranovic/Souza-Kordeiro CRO were not included either... And the Finnish pair from last year's World unfortunately split up.

All that means, that we only have 11 nations fighting for 4 spots in Pairs. If we exclude North Korea, which seems unlikely to participate in PyeongChang for political reasons, then that is 4 spots for 10 countries. If, and that is a big IF, France does not send its second pair, then 5 spots out of 10 remaining countries could be filled, not bad, huh?

Matilda ALGOTSSON replacing Joshi is a bit of a surprise to me. So was Matteo RIZZO replacing Ivan Righini. Both are risqué moves, but both are undestandable. At the end of the day, the competition is extremely tough for these 6 spots in singles and both Joshi and Ivan have always been unpredicatble with their results. I predict both Matilda and Matteo will qualify their countries to Olympics, but I see both of them ending up 5th or 6th among countries that have not qualified yet.

Hi all. I'm getting ready to catch a plane from Seattle on Monday to come to this competition. My wife and I attended in 2013 the last time the final entrants for the Olympics were chosen. It was a great competition but it was more heart wrenching than I expected as the skaters struggled to do their best with a lot on the line. For some skaters, it was wonderful to see how they grasped their opportunities and performed extremely well. Sadly this time I will be coming without my wife who died this past March. I will have a friend with me from Munich who is totally new to watching skating competitions live.

I would love to meet any Golden Skaters that are in attendance. I will be wearing my golden baseball cap with "Golden Skate" stitched in blue on the front. If anyone sees me, please come up and introduce yourselves. And, Alex D, I hope we have the opportunity to renew our acquaintance—it was a great pleasure to talk with you in 2013.

I can live with the disappointment of not seeing Patrick, I just hope he is alright and not injured or something. That's the most important.

Re Ice Dance Olympic race

The teams we have seen in these first 2 weeks of the season:

Kana Muramoto / Chris Reed 151.45 (Salt Lake City)

Yura Min / Alexander Gamelin 141.78 (Ondrej Nepela)

Allison Reed/Saulius Ambrulevicius 138.40 (Ondrej Nepela)

Cortney Mansour / Michal Ceska 133.76 (Ondrej Nepela)
Tina Garabedian / Simon Proulx-Senecal 133.26 (Salt Lake City)
Cecilia Torn / Jussiville Partanen 132.92 (Lombardia)

Lucie Mysliveckova / Lukas Csolley 129.06 (Lombardia)

Victoria Kavaliova / Yurii Bieliaiev 125.02 (Ondrej Nepela)
Olga Jukashina / Andrey Nevskiy 122.70 (Ondrej Nepela)

So Muramoto/Reed looked very solid.
Min/Gamelin also appear ahead of the group fighting for the last spots.

If Coomes/Buckland are in decent shape they shouldn't have problems
If Germany confirm Lorenz/Polizoakis, I would assume they are in decent shape given the other 2 German ice dance teams have showed ok results this summer (M/D) or this week (136.98 for K/N without a problematic FD without a lift). And therefore to be at least in Min/Gamelin scoring area.

Reed/Ambrulevicius had a good debut. But will she get Lithuanian citizenship? Isabella Tobias had many troubles to get it last time. So I wouldn't be hopeful.

Thank you Andrea for the recap of all the dance scores. It is very interesting. I expect Coomes/Buckland to make it and Germans should benefit from the home advantage. The Japanese seem much stronger this year and the Koreans are consistent. Surprisingly, the Lithuanians got the highest score out of other contenders. I am curious about the Hungarians! And let's not forget the Danish reps are very unlikely to go, so let's watch for that 6th spot in here.
