If the Olympic gods let Hirscher win then maybe they are kind to the favorites this time. So maybe Mikaela has a chance tomorrow too...

FIS Alpine calendar:

http://www.fis-ski.com/alpine-skiing/events-and-places/calendar/

It's going to be a very busy 10 days. Particularly for the girls, who are now scheduled to be in action EVERY DAY until the end of the Olympics.

Let's hope things calm down and we can get some racing in.

Does anyone know what would happen if they had to cancel another time?

Would they be cancelled? Postponed and held after the games? Whats the procedure there?

Hey, what happened to Sarka Strachova? Why is she not skiing?

This Olympics is total chaos.

Šárka Strachová retired last season (it was reported in early 2017). She stated that she no longer enjoyed competing as much, as her priorities had shifted.

Too bad. I liked her. I remember her competing against Mikaela Shiffrin.

It's really nice to see some actual skiing take place after all the delays. Nice background entertainment on the laptop while the figure skating is on the big telly screen. :agree:

I am at work, so I am just looking at live results, I will watch it later, but I am surprised Tessa Worley is 14th and Tina Weirather 24th after the 1st run. That's a disaster for Tessa, who was considered one of the favorites to gold. And what the heck happened to Tina? She is in danger of not qualifying for the final 30.

Maybe someone who is a regular Alpine watcher that can answer this for me. There's a guy named Wiley Maple who skis for the US, but is not on the US team. Bode Miller mentioned he had paid his own way. I was not aware a person could do this. His name is Wiley Maple. http://www.wileymaple.com/index.html

Yep, the same was the case for Ilka Štuhec of Slovenia. The Fed had no faith in her after she suffered an injury a few years ago, and her family ended up having to set up a privateer team so that she could continue competing.

She won the crystal globes in Combined and Downhill last season.

But it's the Olympics. I can't go and just say I'm competing for the US, can I?

US has a qualification process for the Olympics, so you are correct. You cannot go the Olympics for your own money representing US. You must qualify. The talk is probably about the World Cup.
There are skiers who don't have any support of their federations, but they still compete on the World Cup for their own resources. The Kostelic siblings were basically trained using their own resources. Tina Maze was on her own too. In the Eastern European countries there is no government supported system or money like in Austria, Switzerland or Italy.
I never heard of the name Wiley Maple. I watch the World Cup, but not deep enough to know every name.

Ok, that clears up my confusion. Apparently he's been a story this Olympics. i sure never would have heard of him if Bode Miller hadn't been talking about it. I guess it is a good story. He travels with the team and pays his own way, then makes the Olympic team. What a thrill for him! Hopefully he won't have to pay his own way next year.

Watching live results from work and I see Mikaela is 0.5 seconds behind Holdener after the first run. Something must have happened. Or just Mikaela run too cautiously. She will have to attack and risk in the second run, because 0.5 sec is a lot when you go against Holdener.
