Judge 4 in Men must be smoking particularly powerful weed. Iwano's SS are valued for 5.50, and Sota's for 6.75. :slink:
Thx for the videos, Tsuyo! Every little helps. ♥️

Rino :love2: her skating is truly gorgeous. I think she's been injured (hence the WD from Gensan?) so the spins looking undertrained made sense to me. But I'm glad at least the injury isn't stopping her for being mostly solid with the jumps unlike last season- except the backloaded combo, but her landing it is already good enough for me. Hopefully it continues this year!

Thank you @tsuyoboogie for always coming through with the Japanese skaters videos! I have friends who are very thankful to you too who are not on GS hehehe.

Thank you so much for the videos @tsuyoboogie!

Rino, lovely as always :love2:

Not sure what's up with her spins though - weird to see her struggling with the layback & combo spins, which I guess explains the lowish score despite solid jumps... Hopefully just an early season mishap.

Someone is saying she is/was injured. Not sure what the nature of the injury is, but if it's her back, that would explain the spins.

Noooo 😭

Do we know what was the latest injury she had? I really hope it wasn't as bad as last year's 🥺
I checked some post skate interviews to see if she talked about it but so far it seems she hasn't mentioned the injury

It should please you then that Sota's clean SP received the same PCS as Kazuki's Nebelhorn SP with splats on two jumps, and a big mistake on the third. That his fast spins in tight positions received about the same GOE as Kazuki's labored ones, and that Kazuki received slightly better SS score than an almost perfect Sota. No no, totally not underscored I tell you...
It's kind of hard to do tricks and interesting stuff between elements when one is skating to a sad and slow song. What else is everyone else doing in such songs that makes them so much better?

You compare domestic and international here.
Facial expression perhaps?

edit:
this is also a good example.. sometimes scores are just 🎲

and we've agreed earlier that 2x sad, slow music is not ideal and Sota deserved something more upbeat 🙂 let's stick to this

Fully comparable. JPN judges are super stingy even at home, at least to most, I thought everyone knew that.

To me, Sota has very good expression. Nothing like Yuzuru or Kazuki, but quite comparable with, or better than, any other JPN man including Shoma. Well, a thousand people, a thousand opinions.

So I watched Sota and Rika here.
And - Sota really opened up here in the last third of the program. He seemed much more "there" to me when the jumps were done and he had more armography then of course. That helps a lot! He is much taller than lots of the other japanese top skaters and I feel he could work on that more, make this more an advantage for him. Others do - tall Koreans, tall Canadians, several others, Deniss comes to mind. Also Koshiro to some extent. There's something I see in both Koshiro and Sota that I also like for both of them.

Yet Sota looked unhappy after the free? Hopefully only exhausted. The scores will also go up more with more stamina over the season, for sure. And he will get a nice 4F as well

Not sure if she'll actually attempt it but Mana's FS PPC shows her opening with a 3A
