Gonna watch the Men's medal ceremony and then get started with video
1st Rino Matsuike 64.70 (Papa Can You Hear Me?; choreo Noriko Sato)
I had to go see who the judge wasJudge 4 in Men must be smoking particularly powerful weed. Iwano's SS are valued for 5.50, and Sota's for 6.75.
Thx for the videos, Tsuyo! Every little helps.
Rino her skating is truly gorgeous. I think she's been injured (hence the WD from Gensan?) so the spins looking undertrained made sense to me. But I'm glad at least the injury isn't stopping her for being mostly solid with the jumps unlike last season- except the backloaded combo, but her landing it is already good enough for me. Hopefully it continues this year!1st Rino Matsuike 64.70 (Papa Can You Hear Me?; choreo Noriko Sato)
Thank you so much for the videos @tsuyoboogie!
Rino, lovely as always
Not sure what's up with her spins though - weird to see her struggling with the layback & combo spins, which I guess explains the lowish score despite solid jumps... Hopefully just an early season mishap.
Coming back from injury...againThank you so much for the videos @tsuyoboogie!

Itsuko Morishige...
NooooComing back from injury...again
I checked some post skate interviews to see if she talked about it but so far it seems she hasn't mentioned the injuryNoooo
Do we know what was the latest injury she had? I really hope it wasn't as bad as last year's
It should please you then that Sota's clean SP received the same PCS as Kazuki's Nebelhorn SP with splats on two jumps, and a big mistake on the third. That his fast spins in tight positions received about the same GOE as Kazuki's labored ones, and that Kazuki received slightly better SS score than an almost perfect Sota. No no, totally not underscored I tell you...
It's kind of hard to do tricks and interesting stuff between elements when one is skating to a sad and slow song. What else is everyone else doing in such songs that makes them so much better?
You compare domestic and international here.
Facial expression perhaps?

Fully comparable. JPN judges are super stingy even at home, at least to most, I thought everyone knew that.
To me, Sota has very good expression. Nothing like Yuzuru or Kazuki, but quite comparable with, or better than, any other JPN man including Shoma. Well, a thousand people, a thousand opinions.
