I'm surprised at Wichita, too! They haven't hosted Nationals before. The closest Nationals to Wichita, Kansas were the ones in Kansas City, Missouri.

There was such a delay in naming 2025 Nationals that I know a lot of posters here were understandably worried. Plus, as many people pointed out, it's nice when they can promote the next year's Nationals at the current one, which they obviously didn't do this year.

Anyway here's hoping Wichita Nationals are as successful as Columbus Nationals were!

Hey! Lay off Wichita, all you coastal snobs.

Wichita is the largest city in the state of Kansas (popuation 400,000). It is a bigger metropolis than New Haven CT, Rochester,NY, Lake Placid, NY (population 2205) Providence RI, Hartford CT, Pittsburgh PA., Uniondale NY, Tacoma WA, Spokane WA. and Greensboro NC – all sites of U.S. Nationals over the years. Wichita’s most prominent industry is aircraft manufacturing and aerospace engineering. You can go ice skating at the Wichita franchise of the Chicken N Pickle restaurant-and-pickleball empire.

Have we lost all nostalgia for Wyatt Earp and the Chisholm Trail? For the Wichita Lineman? Plus, in 2026 we can say, “I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas any more, Toto.”

No direct flights from Boston, NYC, or Providence, and too far, really, to drive.

Oh, that's a shame. On the plus side, Wichita is near the geographical epicenter of the U.S. (that is, of the 48 contiguous states), so unless one lives in Hawaii or Alaska that person will only have to drive 1500 miles or so.

My skating travel budget is reserved for Worlds in Boston and I don't have to fly either.

The best they could come up for Nats is Wichita? There are no direct flights from the 3 NYC airports and I assume it's freezing there in January. Even if I had the budget, this is a hard pass.

Lucky for skating fans living in TX, Oklahoma or other nearby states this fall and winter but not for the northeast.

I hope Skate America comes back to SCOB in the next few years.

What is this "direct flight" you speak of? I actually found one from Spokane to San Diego once. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice Omaha was and Milwaukee for events. Maybe Wichita will be nice. Sorry, Texas, but I will not be going to SA there. Glad you did so well you chose to bid again.
