Is Plushy going to be here with Samoilov? I don't really find it fair that Vlad got a spot when he has no chance to qualify to the final...they could have given Egor Rukhin another spot. Yes, his chances of qualifying were very slim, but he medaled and his skating is a lot more pleasant than Vlad's. I don't care who his coach is.

So I was lurking in the predictions thread (not invested in junior men this year enough to participate myself) and wondered why Samoilov is listed so high in so many predictions when it seemed like the Russian Fed added him on to the roster as an afterthought. Disregarding previous seasons' results (because juniors can advance a lot over just a couple of months) I went on to YouTube to watch videos of his latest competition and have to say I'm a bit disappointed. He may be attempting (and landing some) quads but the overall quality of his jumps and spins do not warrant +GOEs and his skating and performance level leave much to be desired. I doubt that he (or Murashov) will be raking in the PCS, and expect Torgashev to have a cushion of at least 3 mistakes. So what is it? Does Samoilov have something in his pocket that I'm missing?

In theory, Vlad can land quads and 3as, but he is anything but consistent and I doubt that a few months with Plushy has reversed years of mediocrity. According to Plush he has a 4F, but he didn't land it in competitition. Of course any of the other men could have a bad day, or all of them, so I guess he has as good a chance of winning as any, but his track record does not inspire confidence.

Rukhin's PB score was one of the lowest one among Rus men. Danielian has better chances to grab a medal. He was lucky to compete in Bresbane where he was one of the strongest rivals. So he hasn't any chanse to qualify and he's still young. Better to give a chance to someone else. It's really nasty that someone wish him to bomb. :slink: He didn't decide it, it was RusFed. Plus he won Moscow Open, if Alena got a spot, why he can't?

Same. I wondered too, watched his skates and wasn't terribly impressed, and accordingly put him lower in my predictions.

Krasnozhon hasn't impressed me but somehow he managed to win 2times and to get the highest pcs. While his skating skills are really bad. This boy doesn't have a quard. His 4lo should be downgraded every time.. But he got only <

What an unusual start order! I hope that some fans stay after warm up group 3, not that attendance is all that wonderful to begin with.

And I am so torn ..... I want my boy Andrew T. to slay:hap10: one of the few times I ever look forward to Tango de Roxanne is his energetic LP. And for Tomoki to slay and perfect those lovely Rohene programs:clap:

What to do, what to do:biggrin:

Most of the Junior men's field this season doesn't "really" have a quad (very few have been credited with more than one or two); and those that do seem to have some big weaknesses. Essentially, everyone who had a solid quad and a decent second mark moved up. Because the young guys who did so the last couple seasons have been having success competing with the seniors & this is the Olympic season. But the junior men's field will rebuild, and in the meantime we have the chance to appreciate a less predictable field and the strengths of some athletes who are still developing other aspects of their skating. Krasnozhon has his weaknesses, but the short works very well for him, his jumps are high, & he has been very solid this season. Which is far from something to take for granted, especially among the junior men. Some of the younger guys will gain strength and develop the big jumps. The older ones are gaining some confidence in this new leadership role. And we have some fun prospects just entering the JGP this season & next. It has been fun to watch the last two junior men's events. Much stronger than the early ones, depthwise.

Egor Rukin was 7th and received 57.51 in Brisbane. And if I'm not wrong Igor Efimchuk replaced him in Poland JGP already.... But he is really cute. :) Gubanova had better result and she was replaced, too

Egor Rukhin came third in Brisbane, not 7th. He scored 185.12. Donovan Carrillo was 7th there. Artur Danielian was 7th in Croatia with a score of 188.36, but I don't think anyone thought he'd get a second spot. Did you mean him?

I think Plushyfan was referring to the SP, where Rukhin was 7th with a 57.51

Maybe looked at the wrong results page?

Here for Young Hyun Cha's JGP debut! :cheer: I was so impressed with his musicality and springy knees at qualifications.
I just squint through his spins.
Hope he skates well and proves to his federation that he deserved two JGP assignments.

Also hoping for two strong performances from Tsuboi! :cheer2:

Good Luck, guys!

Re: Men's JGPF qualifications

Murashov (RUS) is 1st to skate (1st in Group 1), Hiwatashi (USA) is 7th (2nd in Group 2), and Torgashev (USA) is 12th (2nd in Group 3). Potential spoilers are Rizzo (ITA, 2nd to skate, 2nd in Group 1), Pavlov (UKR, 14th to skate, 4th in Group 3), Samoilov (RUS, 15th to skate, 5th in Group 3), Lee (KOR, 17th to skate/2nd in Group 4), Cha (KOR, 20th to skate/5th in Group 4), and Tsuboi (JPN, 22nd to skate, 1st in Group 5)

Men's chances now:

(Above the line are in for sure)

1) Alexey Erokohv (RUS) - 30, 1st + 1st, 454.68
2) Alexei Krasnozhon (USA) - 30, 1st + 1st, 434.85
3) Camden Pulkinen (USA) - 28, 1st + 2nd
4) Mitsuki Sumoto (JPN) - 24, 1st + 4th
_________________________________________
5) Makar Ignatov (RUS) - 24, 2nd + 3rd
6) Joseph Phan (CAN) - 22, 2nd + 4th, 404.74
7) Luc Economides (FRA) - 22, 2nd + 4th, 386.55
8) Roman Savosin (RUS) - 22, 2nd + 4th, 383.74

Still to go in Italy:
Andrew Torgashev (USA) - 13, 2nd, 212.71
Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) - 11, 3rd, 189.89
Igor Murashov (RUS) - 11, 3rd, 186.76

Torgashev is in with a 1st or 2nd. With a 3rd, he needs to beat Ignatov on the score tiebreaker and one of Hiwatashi/Murashov to get a low enough score OR if below Ignatov's total both others must get below Ignatov. With a 4th, he'd need to win the score tiebreaker over Phan AND hope both Hiwatashi/Murashov to get no better than bronze. 5th or lower, he's out.

Hiwatashi is in with a 1st. With a 2nd, he's in if he beats Ignatov on the score tiebreaker and Torgashev wins or gets bronze without Murashov winning; if he beats Ignatov on the tiebreaker and Murashov wins, he's in only if Torgashev gets bronze with a low enough score or lower than bronze. With a 3rd, he's out because he loses the placement tiebreaker to Phan.

Murashov is in with a 1st. The other situations mirror Hiwatashi's possibilities exactly, just with slightly different score tiebreaker totals needed.

Likely final is Erokhov, Krasnozhon, Pulkinen, Sumoto, and then Torgashev and one of Ignatov or Hiwatashi (since Hiwatashi has higher PB than Ignatov but Ignatov has the higher scores this season)

(ETA to put Sumoto in as mentioned below by another poster, because his gold ensures he'll win any tiebreakers and only two of Torgashev/Hiwatashi/Murashov could beat him by total placement points anyway)

(ETA again: Also, if Russia decides to replace Samoilov with Rukhin, Rukhin's qualification path is the same as Hiwatashi or Murashov.)

65.54 for Murashov, new PB by nearly 12 points. He's not going to make this easy for Torgashev and Hiwatashi to qualify.
