It's interesting that the skating official commented on obscenities re: junior ice dance -- I've heard a couple of words that some might consider obscenities springing up in a few programs this year--
-"Shows that we ain't gonna stand s***" in D/R's Hometown Glory (Adele)
-"Kept my d*** wet with that same old bet" - in multiple skaters' Back to Black (Beyonce)
I wonder if the ISU will clarify their stance on explicit language in programs at some point? Honestly, if the song is good enough, I'd rather hear the actual word than a big, distracting bleep noise, but I suppose there's a limit (multiple occurrences in the same song, more flagrant words, etc.).
Full Definition of hip–hop
1
: a subculture especially of inner-city youths who are typically devotees of rap music
2
: the stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rap; also : rap together with this music
Rhythm and Blues music, or R&B music, was originally termed "race music" and basically included any form of music intended for black audiences. A combination of jazz, gospel, and blues, the term "R&B" was originally coined in the late 1940’s in the United States to be used as a less offensive marketing term.
Those definitions come from an online Webster's site and are a broad brushstroke of what both genres have evolved to. For me, rap music or hip hop is music that IS rapped to. R&B is soulful and bluesy.
Personally I wouldn't categorize Whitney Houston's IWALY as anything other than a beautiful ballad.
Houston and producer David Foster re-arranged the song as an R&B ballad.

Didn't Tara, Kristi and Katarina do a ridiculously bad rap number in Stars on Ice? I tried searching for a visit of it on YouTube but came up short.
aw thx a lot for posting! I adore Janet:luv17:Nancy Kerrigan has actually skated to Janet Jackson multiple times! She must be a fan. In 1997, it was "Together Again" (can't find a video of this) and in 1994 at that cheesy Rock and Roll Championship, it was a medley of "Again" and "If."

Reading SinKats inetrview I wondered if everyone in the dancers camp cant wait for the next season with the hip hop music Im really curious who's gonna actually use it- There was a clip on Instagram from many many months ago of Viktoria Sinitsina taking a hip-hop class with Cathy Reed. Vika's got some moves!
Stephanie Rosenthal's 2006 US nationals SP was quite awesome. One of my favorites!!
I seriously think Plushy should go into acting. He is so expressive, he's almost like a "Mime" when he does these show programs. I imagine after all his touring that he doesn't really need the money but, I sure would love to see him in movies. Illia Kulik was in that dance movie Center Stage and Plushy is certainly as talented as Illia.
Its 2 hit wonderHas anyone ever skated to "Ready To Go" By Republica? I absolutely loved this song when I heard it for the first time and I can't believe it's almost 20 years old. This was their only big hit in the US. Maybe they could start a "One Hit Wonder" Category...

too bad the 2 middle vids of the examples dont work for meThere's ISU explanation of hiphop (for Ice Dance though):

Funny thing is that Ilia Kulik did not do his dancing in that film (one of my secret delights!).
And I agree with a good explanation on R/B, Hip Hop, etc. It's not derailing anything. How can we discuss in this thread if we aren't on the same page? Because Whitney's "I Will Always Love you" sounds pure Pop to me. Streisand would sound just like that too, and she's not R/B at all. Whitney's done some good R/B songs "I'm Your Baby Tonight", "It's Not Right But It's Okay". Maybe Frida you can help educate us with your knowledge instead of starting something then backing out?
You know who should have had a Dance Double along with a Voice Double??? Maxwell Caulfield. I was in the studio when he recorded "Charades" from Grease 2 and they did their best to get rid of it but.....Maxwell had a Lisp and was very insecure as a singer. However, he insisted on doing his own vocals so they let him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_3pya8vCOI
Oh god, Maxwell Caulfield (and Nicholas Clay) sent my preteen heart aflutter in the early 80s!!! Even his total beauty could not get me to watch Grease 2 all the way through. lol. Maybe Evan should skate to the soundtrack? hehe
In their "street beats"-themed program [selections by Fantasia, Alicia Keyes, Fatboy Slim and Humdig], the Haydenettes portray a hip-hop dancer who comes to New York not fully knowing what to expect, and who progresses over time.
