Zoe Ann JONES and Christopher BOYADJI are Pairs skaters who represent Great Britain.

Zoe Jones was born on born on 14th January 1980 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.

Christopher Boyadji was born on 15th July 1990 in Paris, Île-de-France, France.

They are four times British Pairs Champions.

This is going to be a slightly different Fan Fest. There is already a post about Chris’ Singles career in the thread for his former partnership with Amani Fancy here:
https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?57425

So, rather than repeat everything here, the additional OP in this thread will focus on Zoe.

Consequently, rather than having just one “Original Post”, this Fan Fest has two!

The first post (this one) is for the current Pairs partnership.
The second post is for Zoe as a Singles skater.

Zoe Ann JONES is a Ladies Singles skater who represents Great Britain. She was born on 14th January 1980 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.

She is the 2000–01 and 2001–02 British Ladies Singles Champion.

Zoe has competed under a number of names. She used her maiden name of Zoe Jones until the 200102 season, when she retired from competitive skating. She made her comeback as an Adult skater in the 2013–14 season, competing under the name Zoe Wood (the surname of her first husband, Canadian Ice Hockey player Dody Wood). During the 2014–15 season, Zoe got re-married, to English / South African figure skater Matthew Wilkinson. So, when she return to competing at Senior level for the 2015–16 season, it was as Zoe Wilkinson. During the 2016–17 season, she reverted to using her maiden name.

:agree: Amazing!!!

I didn't get to watch the British Championships, because I was doing other things over the weekend. But, I have just been reading some comments on Facebook, and it sounds like there was a very messy and controversial end to them.

Apparantly, Zoe had been declared the champion, and then it was changed.

I still don't know exactly what happened, but I've posted copies of some of the comments to the British Championships event thread (they're on page 2).

Maybe somebody who was watching will be able to fill us in.

OK, so Icebethy (who was at the championships) has filled us in on what happened:

After the ladies fp, Zoe was announced as the winner only for the marks to be recalculate as they missed a single toe off the end of one of Danni jumps which was a repeated jump, tech called but it wasn't data entered.

So then at the podium it was announced to everyone else, some of the response wasn't great, but no one deserved that response. So it was kind of bitter sweet, the original score out Zoe 1.3 points ahead after both programs

EDIT: Icebethy has provided some more details, and it turns out that I had picked things up wrong. It wasn't for a few minutes that everybody thought Zoe had won - it was for a few hours! :drama:

I think it was just simply missed in the data entry. The only thing that I am confuse is that I thought the pdf once online for all to see is final and then cannot be changed, but I was obviously wrong and it can be changed till the podium.

It shouldn't happen but it has, however Zoe still won the night and missed the top of the podium by 0.09 a massive feat by someone who grew up in the 6.0 era and has had to learn ijs. The way they announced it was hard as instead of doing the podiums in order they left the ladies till last, and as I have heard the skaters had only just been told before the audience. Everyone is moaning that people booed a 16 year old, but irrespective of age it shouldn't happen to any skater of any age its jus not fair!

When watching the ladies there was an energy in the building that hasn't been there in the last couple of years, so in a way that part is good, hopefully deepening the strength of British ladies/British skating, hopefully.

Nick and Penny gave an amazing performance, same with Peter James and Phil. The gala that NISA has started running over the past few years at the end of the event was really good as always, all of this is stored on the live stream links as well I think as the podiums which have been posted up until Saturday, I have not looked for Sundays.

Icebethy

Edit ISU were contacted and helped sort the issue out following the isu rules on what to do with the issue in the ladies therefore the change was done within the rules and with isu knowing.

Hearing that NISA had to go to the ISU to sort it out, I can understand how it took so long. But, the skaters should have been told straight away, and the audience straight after. It should not have been left until the podium ceremony.

Regardless, it was not right for the audience to react badly to the skaters. It wasn't the skaters' fault that somebody back stage messed up.

Shame on them! They can't be true fans.

Just a quick message to let you know that Zoe will be making her International return to Senior level this weekend at the Triglav Trophy.

Incidentally, the Triglav Trophy was also the first International competition she competed at when she was 11 years old (Source: Facebook comment).

Whilst I do appreciate this as being a fitting place for Zoe to make her International return, I really wish she had done some Senior B's earlier in the season. Because, if she had got some international scores on the board, there is a high probability that she would have been getting on a flight to Boston instead.

But hey!

The Ladies SP is due to start at 18:00 CET (17:00 GMT) on Friday. There is no detailed Time Schedule published, but Zoe is due to be the third skater to start.

The Ladies FS is due to start at 10:10 CEST (08:10 GMT) on Sunday.

Please be aware that Europe switches to daylight savings time at 01:00 GMT on Sunday morning.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST ZOE!!! :cheer:

Zoe certainly did not disgrace herself against the younger skaters...

5[SUP]th[/SUP] in the SP, 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] in the FS, and 4[SUP]th[/SUP] overall!!!

2016 Triglav Trophy Ladies Overall Results

Unfortunately, Zoe did not have a good start to her SP. She fell on her opening combination jump, and then under-rotated both her triple lutz and double axel. That left her a shade under 5 points behind Alessia Zardini in 4[SUP]th[/SUP].

The FS went much better. Again, she got 2 under-rotation calls (for the triple salchow, and for the triple toe in a combination jump), but at least there were no falls.

Although Zoe finished ahead of Alessia in the FS, it was only by 1 point. So, the damage was done in the SP.

Looking at the results, her scores here would not have attained the minimum TES's required for Worlds. But, it was her first international Senior-level competition for 14 years! And, although she is a VERY experienced skater, she is still VERY new to competing under IJS.

Hopefully, with more competitions under her belt and more experience of IJS, she will achieve the minimum TES's by the time the Majors come around next season.

:cheer: WELL DONE ZOE, AND ALL THE BEST!!! :cheer:

I am afraid that I am here to let you know that yesterday, Zoe announced that she would no longer be competing in Senior Ladies.

"So this will be my last post as a Senior Lady !!!
When I set out on my journey as an adult skater I had no idea it would bring me back to the British Championships, and definitely not to a winning performance and a silver medal.
My skating has since progressed and moved on but at the time I can honestly say I couldn't have done any better. The struggle, determination and fight it took for me to get there will only ever be known to me but I want to thank every one who helped and supported me on my way and were there for me after, It's much appreciated and I love every one of you.
I will now embark on another new ,very unexpected and extreamly exciting journey !!!!"

About this new journey. Well, nothing has been announced officially on her Facebook page yet, but over in the "Splits and Partner Changes" thread, hanca revealed that Zoe is Christopher Boyadji's new partner in Pairs!!!!

They did split up second time. Boyadji is with a new partner. (Zoe Wilkinson, new to pairs and in her mid thirties. But at least she has triple jumps).

Didn't see that one coming!

After how well she has done since her comeback, it will be a shame to see her leave Singles skating. But, she knows what is best for her, and for us it will be exciting to she how she gets on doing something different.

All the best to Zoe in this new phase of her career. I hope it proves to be as successful as her Singles career was!

I really enjoyed watching Zoe and Christopher at Europeans! They were pretty good and her story is just incredible and inspirational.
Does anyone know if Christopher can get British citizenship in time for Peyongchang? I believe they have a chance to qualify and jt would be amazing to see them at the Olympics

I don't remeber Zoe as a single skater but was very impressed with her at Euros. She has just started skating pairs and is 37 years old!! A remarkable achievment indeed. I wish the pair the very best of luck. She should get extra points just for being so gutsy and she has good style and presentation too. Well done!

Just a few updates.

Firstly, Chris has set up a crowdfunding page to help him and Zoe meet the costs for going to the World Championships this season, and their costs for their next season:

https://www.gofundme.com/JonesBoyadji

Meagan Duhamel has made a donation... :agree:

Secondly, this thread. As you may have noticed, I am in the process of converting this thread from being just about Zoe to being about both her and Chris. The thread name has already been changed and the posts that will contain the info about each of their careers have been inserted (thank you Doris!)

Don't worry, the contents will be added to the empty posts soon!

But, for an idea of what I am planning this thread to be like, see the thread I made for Anna Dušková & Martin Bidař, and the thread I made for Ashley Cain.

Looking forward to seeing Zoe and Chris at Worlds in a couple of months, and to seeing them finally fulfill their Olympic ambitions next season.

All the best, guys!

OK. Slight change of plan.

When going through the older threads in the Fan Fest forum, I found a thread for Christopher's previous partnership with Amani Fancy. So, now that I can do extra editing things, I am going to convert that thread into a Fan Fest specifically for him.

So, this is how it is going to work:

  • The first post of this thread is going to be about Zoe's Singles career.
  • The second post of this thread is going to be about Zoe's Pairs career.

  • The first post of the other thread is going to be about Christopher's Singles career.
  • The second post of the other thread is going to be about Christopher's Pairs career.

So, rather than this thread being like the Fan Fest I did for Anna Dušková & Martin Bidař and the other thread being left abandoned, both threads will now be like the Fan Fest I did for Ashley Cain.

In effect, the only thing that will be different to what I had been planning is that the post specifically about Chris will be appearing at the start of the other thread instead of being the second or third post in this thread.

This thread will still be the one that caters for the current partnership, while the other thread will still cater for Christopher's previous partnerships.

But, doing it like this will allow for more flexibility. :agree:

An update on the crowdfunding. The donations received so far mean that the costs for the trip to Worlds have now been covered! :cheer:

But, there is still other stuff to be paid for. Such as the training.

Meridian Tonight (the ITV local news programme that covers Zoe's hometown of Swindon) did a report about Zoe and Chris last night:

http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/20...in-a-spin-over-lack-of-funding-for-the-sport/

Hopefully it is not geo-blocked.

I see Chris is starting to pick up an English accent. It's actually a nice blend. ;)

Zoe tells us in the report that it costs around £50,000 to compete per season! :jaw:

I knew figure skating was expensive, but I didn't realise it was quite that expensive! No wonder they have to raise funds!

Speaking of which, the crowdfunding was given a major boost a couple of days ago by former England and Arsenal goalkeeper, David Seaman, and his wife, adagio skater Frankie Poultney.

I've never been a big football fan, but I did always think Seaman was a good bloke. And this act of generosity has really confirmed it.

Here is the thank you message on Zoe and Chris' Facebook Page, accompanied by a photo of the four of them (didn't recognise David without his moustache!):

https://www.facebook.com/JonesBoyad...666484552429/1269401399812270/?type=3&theater

Thank you David and Frankie for helping our Pair! :cheer:   :party2: :points:

For those of you that haven't noticed, Zoe and Chris will be competing today at the Trophée de France. And for each of them it will be their second Senior GP appearance.

For Chris, the last time he competed in a Senior GP was the Pairs competition at the NHK Trophy in 2015.

For Zoe, the last time she competed in a Senior GP was the Ladies competition at Skate Canada in... erm... 1998!

19 years between GP appearances! :jaw: That has got to be a record! :agree:

To put things into perspective, 5 of the Ladies, 2 of the Men and 2 of the Ice Dancers competing in Grenoble this week weren't even born when Zoe made her Senior GP debut.

What an achievement for her to be back competing at this level!

Well done to the FFSG / ISU / whoever for giving Zoe and Chris the opportunity to compete at a GP again. :cheer:  :points:

Zoe and Chris will kick off the Pairs SP.

The Group 1 Warm-Up starts at 18:35 CET (17:35 GMT), while they are due to start their routine at 18:42:30 CET (17:42:30 GMT).

OK, so I haven't seen the Short Programme yet. But, from what I have seen on Facebook, it sounds like it didn't go as well as hoped.

However, there is a very good reason why this was the case. In case the commentators didn't know and so weren't able to pass it on, Zoe is full of the flu at the moment. Chris posted this on their Facebook Fan Page on Thursday:

When your skating partner is so ill that she talks with a very manly voice and cough every 10 sec ! 🧟*♀️🤢
Bring it on GP Internationaux de France 😱

#ISU #PairSkating #IFP2017 #Grenoble #SickPartner

Source: https://www.facebook.com/JonesBoyadji/posts/1507176362701438

And then followed it up with this after the SP:

Yes, obvisously, today wasn't the best Short Programme ever.

But I (Chris) am SO PROUD of my Skating Partner. Competing with the flu 🤒, having muscle pain, coughing every 10s and being in the worst shape possible, she was here tonight and she fought the best she could 💪💪

We wanted to honour our selection at this GP and participate. We did it and yes, it's our worst score, but it feels good to be here, in France, with the Best Skaters in the World.

Tomorrow is the Free Programme, and who knows how it will be, but, I know that she will fight for it, will give everything, because this is who she is.

GET WELL SOON ZOE!!!

Zoe and Chris will be second to go in the Pairs FS.

The Group 1 Warm-Up starts at 19:00 CET (18:00 GMT), while they are due to start their routine at 19:15:50 CET (18:15:50 GMT).

Zoe and Christopher terminated 3rd at the Bavarian Open. Apart from achieving the podium they also gained the minimum TES for the Worlds.

Their expressed their happiness in their Facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/JonesBoyadji/

"Bavarian Open 2019 ended with an amazing 3rd place & World Championships Qualification. We couldn't hope for much more. Once again, thank you for your all kind messages. It means a lot to us. And thank you to all the people around that helped us. "
